This is the first Black Friday I am going for a popular item. Actually it's only my second Black Friday, ever.
This year I'm going to Target for an iTouch. I'm guessing they will only have 10 or so. Will they give out tickets as you stand in line outside the store or will everyone run to Electronics to get in line there? I have to work from 7a-7p that day and would hate to stand in line just to run in and get nothing. I wouldn't feel as bad is I got turned away outside.

Target always stocks the Ipod Touch, its not really a special item they get in for the BF sale. Hopefully that means that you won't have any trouble getting one :goodvibes

Call your local Target and see if they will be handing out tickets. Some do, some don't. They might not be able to tell you if the item you want is a ticket item or not, but you can usually figure out if you think it's going to be that popular. They often don't know how many of certain items they're going to have until the truck pulls up. I have found that Target unlike other retailers tends to carry more than just a few of the hot ticket items if they can. Often if it's going to be a really big item they will place them in different areas of the store and have a brave employee keep watch, so to avoid the mad dash of everyone to electronics. It still can be crazy though even with these few measures in place.

Just make sure they give you the one advertised. Last year was supposed to be the newer one with facetime and 2 cameras and Target gave me the older one. Since I wasn't really paying attention I didn't notice until Christmas Day. They they gave me a HUGE hassle about exchanging it for the right one. I was basically called a liar and they wanted to charge me the $100some dollar difference! I asked to speak to the manager after that.

Target is very good about having large quanties of the big sellers--IMO, better than anywhere else. My guess is they will have far more than 10. We always go to Target first and never rush to wait in line, we just show up slightly before it opens, and we generally have good luck with getting whatever we want.

How they handle the big ticket items seems to vary from store to store. Ours doesn't do tickets and the stampede back to electronics makes the Toy Story stampede at Studios look like a Sunday stroll. I'm actually heading over today to get DD her iPod instead of braving Black Friday there... Between this week's sale ($189 for the 8gig), the 10% off coupon, and the $20 gift card offer it comes out the same as Black Friday without the crazies.

Our Target doesn't do tickets either. But as you're standing in line, they usually send a security guard out with a map that shows where the door busters are. Like last year the TV's weren't in the electronics dept, they were stacked in the jewerly area.

Then, once the doors opened, they let say 100 people go in, waited a min or so for those people to clear the doors and then let another 100 or so in. This way everyone wasn't just stampeding through the doors, but gave them a minute to grab a cart and disperse in the store.

I was at Target yesterday and they had about 50 in the case. I'm not really sure how hot it will be, but I'll try to get one as well. I think that the fact that TRU has a similar deal, and that it's an 8gb might stop the demand, but the price might increase it.

If you're worried, you could get always get it this week; they are offering a $20 gift card instead of a $40 one.

I saw that. But the difference is the 10% off coupon I have for Target. I think I'm going to head over to Target now. I'm going to be so tired from working two 12 hour shifts in a row I might hurt someone. ;)

I want to thank everyone for their input. It helped me realise how valuble my sleep is.
I went and got the 8gb tonight. FWIW, they had eight left in the case after I bought mine.

Very true...the more we push these stores...the more they are willing to
abandon any idea of what thanksgiving is supposed to be about...simply breaking bread with your family. I wont go to any thanksgiving sales for that reason...I can wait until the day after.

OP one good thing about going for the iTouch Target is probably going to have a LOT more than 10 of them. Last year I was in line to buy a camera and as I was standing in line at electronics I saw a stack of at least 100 of them behind the register. I think they're willing to bring in a lot more of them because they take up so little space as compared to say the Xbox Kinect, which the target employee told me they are only get 3 or 4 extra over regular stock (which is why I'm heading there tomorrow to up the xbox and a few other deals so I can price match). Just be aware that the iTouch BF deal is not a deal that you can price match as Target will not price match on GC offers :sad1:

Also, don't forget to print out your ipod 10% off coupon :thumbsup2

I've been successful in buying what I want at Target the week before and then getting a price adjustment on BF or that Saturday. Try taking what you bought back next week and see if they will adjust.

They will not price adjust the gift card with purchase deals. You would have to buy again and return the first purchase.

Is Target offering the $20 gift card with the 8 gb ipod touch this week? I see the 32 gb with the gift card in the ad but not the 8 gb which is the one I want.

Yes, I just bought one earlier this week. I also used the 10% online coupon and applied for a Target debit card and got another 5% off. I had no trouble and the gc was automatically handed to me w/my receipt. Piece of cake & figured it was worth my sanity not to wait for BF.

Thanks!!! What is the Target debit card?

You apply for a Target debit card, attached to your checking account, at the register. It takes just a few minutes, you activate usage/PIN right there, and they give you a receipt to use until the card comes. It's valid only at Target stores and online - and you get an automatic 5% discount when you use it to pay!

And the cashier gets an incentive bonus.
