A couple days ago I had almost all my windows wide open and a skunk must have sprayed right outside one of those windows because when I got home, it seemed like it was right in the house. The intial smell was awful but now it seems like it's lingering here and there...I don't smell it all the time, but I get whiffs of it...I've sprayed room deodorizer and tried a couple candles, but I still notice it...is there anything I can do for it?

Try your local pet store. There are some neutralizing agents you can spray.

But from experience, sometimes it just takes time.

Be thankful you weren't sprayed!

The last time I thought a skunk sprayed near my house, we had a sewer back-up. I really did think it was a skunk; it smelled that bad!

I realized how wrong I was, when I walked past my hallway bathroom and noticed that the tub was full of black water. :scared:

I am glad you asked this. It just happened to me last night. My windows were all open late in the eve & my dog went bananas (LUCKILY she was in the house with me!!!) and all of a sudden......OMG! I swear I could TASTE it. :scared: Today it's going to be 90 degrees so I closed my windows, turned on the AC and it is stinky in here.

Curious about what to do, too.

Yep, that was me too...I could TASTE it...
Soooooooooooooooooo gross!

I washed my curtains this morning and sprayed
practically a whole can of Febreeze on my fabric
furniture and that seems to have helped ALOT.
I'm going to try the vinegar on the stove too.

We have lived here for 9 yrs and never ever had this happen before. We've only smelled skunky smells in the distance.

I am going to try the vinegar too. I'd rather smell/taste that!:thumbsup2

My dog was sprayed last spring which made the house smell awful. I boiled vinegar on the stove as well as placing bowls of vinegar around the house. I also bought some Mr. Clean all purpose cleaner (I got the orange kind and it specifically says it for odors) and scrubbed everywhere to get the scent off. There are also some odor eater kind of things that you can find in the air freshener aisle, they come in a little bowl tyoe thing that you take the top off and just place in the room. Eventually the smell went away. If it's really bad you may need to wash any fabric materials if they absorbed the smell.

I used bottles of Oust and Febreeze (the air freshener kind) and they did nothing.

Many years ago a man I work with got a call at 3 a.m. from his wife saying their dog had killed a skunk and dropped in off on the front porch. They don't have AC so they had all the windows open and fans blowing. His wife swore the house was ruined. A man he worked with told him to get some matches. Not the small ones that are flexible and in a book, but the ones that look like a thick toothpick with the sulpher head on them. He took several boxes of them and started lighting them throughout the house. He carried a bowl around with him and dropped the matches into the bowl after he lit them. He swears that got rid of the smell.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
