Line Jumping?

AMEN! What really gives little Johnny the right to ride twice in a row with no waiting? What about the other kids waiting for their first ride?
Nothing. Riding Dumbo isn't a RIGHT. Beyond that, though, the "Dumbo drop" is something that has been done for literally decades without any fights breaking out, without any news reports of angry mothers beating on each other, without parents duking it out while kids scream. It's an accepted practice that everyone seems to do very politely and with no policing by any CM or self-appointed line police. :confused3

I have always made my DS go to the back of the line if he wants another turn. Just sayin...
Well ... good for you. :goodvibes As an aside, though, if you wanted to adopt the "Dumbo Drop" strategy with your DS, you could also do so and use it as an example of how sometimes, rules can be adapted to fit special situations and that not everything in life IS simply black and white.

:earsboy:

:confused3 Lauren, did you read my post?? Thanks for the tip....I did read the thread before I posted. I said I was bringing a little bit different perspective did I not?
If you wanted a thread run a certain way why not start your own. I mean you are not even the OP and you are telling me what I can and can't write.....can't we all get along with our own opinions and ideas?
My post concerned line ups and and so I thought it was relevant to the conversation.
My point was that even though you and others feel its OK to cut in line because a parent is saving a spot, it does affect others.
Say the line was 100 people; ten parents in line took the kid from the other parent to get a second ride. Say each kid takes 30 seconds to get in the car(or elephant) thats another 5 minutes that kids behind those will have to wait they whould not have had to if people didn't cut in line.
So for you to say extra kids in line don't hold it up and take time is not true.
Each person takes time to get loaded. Even more if they are young kids.

fyi you came across very bossy and next time you want to shoot me down like that maybe think about it before posting pirate:

If there's more than one person in the Dumbo line at any one time with the Chuck Bubba Relay in mind than call me very surprised. And ten of them then causing a 5 minute delay (:scared1:) using debatable assumptions? :lmao:

I think everyone is looking at this as if only 1 person did it. What if 20 people in front of you did it? The point is, I think if people actually waited at the end of the line like they are supposed to, I bet a lot of people wouldn't be as interested in riding it twice. If the whole waiting in line thing is cut out, I bet a lot more people would want to ride it twice. If dad had to actually wait until Johnny got off the ride and go to the end of the ride to go again, I bet dad wouldn't be waiting at all. Therefore, the people actually waiting in line get shorted! Whatever...the funny thing is the children know they should wait at the end of the line. They teach that in school. It's the parents making up the excuses of why they don't have to wait at the end of the line.

even if everyone did it, it doesn't make the line longer. :confused3 It only makes the line longer if they're taking up multiple cars. They're not.

In fact, if 3 people ride 2 dumbos.. and then all 3 get back in line and ride again, again, using 2 dumbos they've just used 4 dumbos. If they bubba chuck they only use a total of 2 dumbos. TOTAL.

They've just saved everyone 2 dumbos. They are not taking 2 spaces that you can ride. If everyone did this, rather than getting in line twice, then we'd all have shorter waits. At dumbo.

Unless you're also advocating that no one is allowed to ride twice or no one is allowed to ride as a solo adult..just because.

You put in the time IN LINE in order to ride the ride. Doesn't seem outside the box as far as a requirement. :)

:earsboy:

I crave a queue utopia where all waiting is done without having to stand in line.

I am 100% ok with waiting my turn. I just don't like the line. Unless it's the new Pooh queue, or SM or probably HM (haven't seen that one yet)

Is that really too much to aspire for?

:music:

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest
To follow that star
No matter how hopeless
No matter how far

To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell
For a heavenly cause......:thumbsup2

Hypotheticals. Gotta love 'em. No, wait--I don't have to.

Hard to argue with math. Well done! :thumbsup2

I don't think anyone *likes* waiting in line. Unfortunately, until all queues are made virtual/immersive (new dumbo, new winnie the pooh, new HM etc) waiting in line is a necessary aspect of riding the attractions at WDW.

I don't see a real issue with the Chuck Bubba tactic because it doesn't increase wait time. That being said, I still think its a bit rude and a manipulation of the system. Not saying it's wrong, or that it shouldn't be done. Just saying I wouldn't do it.

Again, if there is a bathroom emergency for a small child, I can understand leaving the line and rejoining.

However, getting snacks, fastpasses etc, are not viable reasons to jump the line. Whenever I have called Disney Guest Services, they define the above behaviours as line cutting as well.

i have been lurking around here for over a month or so, and this is the first time (between today and yesterday) that i have seen such debate over lines. interesting. Thinking to past visits to disney, i don't think i have ever seen right out line jumping. etc. i have seen people try to catch up to their party for whatever reason (never my business, so i try not to let it bother me). I personally will wait for my party before we enter a line because I HATE being the person pushing through to catch up. But, with kids it happens. so I try never to judge even if they are trying to cheat the system. Its not worth my time because that negativity eventually ends up affecting everyone in our group and we all get our panties in a wad and over what? if someone was actually line jumping or were they legitmately trying to find their party?

I am sure people, though, have had some very obvious rude situations happen to them.

OT-sort of- but the other day in publix i had a buggy probably 1/2 full of stuff, stepped in line (i mean my buggy was touching the belt and i was about to walk around and start loading on the the belt) and this lady says excuse me and walks by me. I assumed that she was with the group infront of me because they forgot an item or something. But, then I realized that this lady and the group were actually not togeter (different nationalities even). Apparently, she thought it was appropriate to skip me in line because she only had one item, lol. Again, not really worth my time and effort, so i just smiled and let it go.

eta: i am so making someone ride infront of ds in dumbo to get good pics now. it will be his first time and i never thought of doing this. hope no one minds?

In some jungle cultures it is acceptable to hit the person in the back of the head with the hardest piece of grocery in your cart if they do this. Same applies if they stop to write a check instead of paying with cash debit or credit.

Wow heated debate...

Good points on all sides...not sure what we will do but I will say if the 3 of us decide to ride together and not do the Dumbo drop. one of use will ride with DS and the other in front (for the good pics :) ). Then if DS wants to ride again we would get in line again and all three of us will ride again. Thur taking us 4 Dumbos instead of 2 so we just made the line longer for people down the road :)...but hey we'll do whats right...lol

Actually will probably tell DS everyone only gets to ride each ride once per day then we dont even have to worry about this...lol

Even though I've been on the pro-side of the Chuck Bubba Relay debate, I agree with you. My family of 3 has never done this simply for the appearance of it to others. But logic tells me it impacts no one.

If we ever had done it, I would have explained to DD why this was a special case so she wouldn't assume it was okay anywhere else.

With as much as a Disney vacation costs, we usually don't attack the parks thinking of it as a Socialist endeavor. :)

We're more worried about making our day as pleasant and full as we can for our own family. Anything that can make our day more efficient - but which doesn't impinge on the experience/fun of other guests - we do (Fastpass, rider switch, rope drop). We never did the Bubba Chuck, but we might have if I'd known about it.

I guess we're Disney Capitalists.

LOL...This is exactly what I thought when I read that post...that's socialism..how unamerican, lol. But then I thought saying that might genuinely be seen as political....didn't want to go there....oh well, I guess I did anyway....it's just a joke for anyone that takes it seriously....I am neither endorsing nor condemning socialism....

It's actually utilitarian in nature, and if making your day more efficient means you get your kid on the ride twice before a kid in line behind you gets to ride once then you're just being selfish. Too bad for your fellow man, right! ;) Because you pay so much for your vacation and they don't??

Oh please! Ok, have it your way, to make sure that your kid gets to go before Sally's kid gets to sit in the empty seat next to her Daddy, they should have you kid sit next to Sally's husband...that way that seat isn't just going around in circles with no one in it. Does that make it more fair for you? Then you can take Sally's kid in your Dumbo when it's your turn.

I needed a slide rule and a protractor to figure that one out, but....I agree! :thumbsup2 ;)

Okay.. *zips up his flame proof suit*

I guess I don't understand the issue at all. To me, line jumping is where people jump into the line from a non-entry point, intent on not waiting their turn.

However, if anyone of their party is in that line, they DID 'wait' their turn, imho. yes, it still bothers me, and those that shove to get up to their line holder should be made to leave the queue all together... that said, I just don't understand the difference between 5 people standing in the line though the whole line, and 1 person standing in the whole line, later joined by 4. either way, that is still 5 people in front of you. The fact that 4 didn't stand in the line doesn't mean they didn't wait the same amount of time to ride. :confused3

I esp. wish I had another adult who could wait in the line and phone me and DD when closer to the end of line. That way we could wait in an area away from the crush of people, and prevent meltdowns and panic attacks. :confused3

But, seeing as I am a single parent, the whole thing is moot.

let me try to reexplain... it is like the one who talked about being in the store... if someone comes to catch up with their party at the check out that is one thing.. but to just step in front of you... THAT is line jumping, not the first one.

so 4 from start to finish, and 1 at start +3 later.. still finishes with 4. :teacher: so 4 = 4. whats the deal? :confused3

*go hides under a rock as I am sure most will not look at this without emotions.*

I apologize for being bossy.
My reply to your post assumed that you had not gone through the posts, since you were responding as though I had said it was always ok to hold a place in line...which I did not and do not agree with...you even said it again here.
Even if it takes the extra kid 30 seconds to get in the elephant, he is doing that during the same 30 seconds that all the other little kids are getting in their elephants...so I stick to my assertion that it does not hold the line up by even a single minute.
