line etiquette questions

this is our first trip w/potty trained kids

... but we can never be too far from a restroom

if we're in line and one of them announces 'i need to go potty' can one of us stay in line while the other takes a run to the nearest bathroom to take care of busines .... w/o getting everyone in line behind us upset?

if the line is moving fast can we keep our place in the front until the other ones arrive and let people pass us to go one ... again w/o incurring too much ratn?

Hi!

I would have no problem with this - as a Mom I definitely have been through the same situation. Just let the people behind you know what is going on so when your child returns there won't be any funny looks... .

It wouln't bother me - we have left many a line due to the gotta go now syndrome!

It may not be that easy to rejoin the line however. Many of the queues are are inside and some are pretty winding without much room to pass anyone. You may have some explaning to do to those who were not in the line when you left. I imagine those around you will under stand but maybe not those you are walking past. Judging from the "comments" I have gotten simply using the FP line I personlly wouldn't do this. We just leave and re-ride later.

I do think that if your party reaches the front they are going to have a hard time waiting on you. Best bet if they make it that far is just to ride without you. Perhaps come up with a meeting place for this Again I would have no problem with you doing it although I wouldn't.


If you hit the parks early and make good use of FP you shouldn't have a problem. Good Luck ~

Disney rules say you have to go to the back of the line but common sense says just excuse your self and take the child to the nearest restroom and allow your other party to hold your spot in line. If they get to the turnstile area just allow others to go in front until you return.

When ya gotta go, ya gotta go! I think most people understand having to take a small child to the potty on short notice. Anyone who doesn't understand can just be angry. I ignored the few snotty comments I heard when my tot was doing his best to 'keep dry'.

I would ask the person behind you before you did anything. If you get an attitude, then just rejoin the line later. Thank goodness my dd (just had her first potty trained trip to DW last month) only pulled that when we were leaving EPCOT with the mass exodus after Illuminations in a pouring rainstorm!!!! I love the kid, I truly do, but at that point I could have killed her!!!! But, as a prior poster said, when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!

This happened to us on the ellen ride at Epcot. My husband left w/ our 4 year old and my daughter and I got all the way to the enterance, we stood aside and waited for them to return, they came in through the fast pass line, the CM's said it was fine!

I too wouldn't have a problem with holding the line for someone in your party making a bathroom run. (Been there, done that) What would bother me and probably others is if one person holds the line for a whole clan of 15+ people!

Common sense and common courtesy go a LONG way!

I hope you have better luck than we had last Jan. My DGS was newly potty trained so we kept a close eye on the bathrooms at Disney. The problem was that he would not use them because they belonged to Mickey and Mickey had not given him permission! It took two days to locate Mickey and get his permission. What a trip!

most people probably won't care but if you try to stop at potties before you line up it probably would be lots easier..bathrooms aren't always that close and the lines shouldn't be that bad when you are there( though i have heard Dec is lots busier than it used to be) so your party will be letting more people pass ( so won't save any time in the end) some of thelines are hard to get in and out of and if you do get to use a fast pass not sure how they would handle that. we just always had a potty break and everybody went ( or had to "try") and so usually they could wait till between rides.

well, I don't know how to double quote so the above & letting the people in back of you know what is going on. If it's just you & the child, I like the idea of the FP-
be aware that many folks cut line by using similiar tactics-
all of us who have or have been around children have had this problem & now that I'm getting older, I do believe I have it myself!

It will probably be fine for some ride's lines but not all. Dumbo fine, others with the line inside, not so easy.

Be curtious and thankful if you have understanding people around you because they don't have to let you back in.

I agree with the other poster about potty runs before each ride. Works great.

I would always ask the people behind us first - that personal interaction makes it pretty hard for them to be jerky to you. I'd say that you would have less of a problem in Fantasyland and Toontown, then at an attraction with more of a general crowd and an elaborate queue. Worse case, you get on line again, or miss that ride.

Last visit, after realizing DD3 could not handle the overload of WDW and staying dry, I went with Pull-Ups the rest of the trip, and we were all a lot happier! When we got home, we just put away the Pull-ups with no problems or accidents after.

Make sure you visit every bathroom you pass, and you should be fine. I use bathroom time to send my husband ahead to get FastPasses or seating at counter service!

We had a similar situation one trip, but it was my father in law who needed a frequent restroom break. After a couple of times when he needed to get out of line, we just made sure he used the bathroom before we got in line!

One way to get a child to be more motivated to use the restroom is to make it a condition of going on a ride - "first, we use the bathroom, then we go on Dumbo" ALso, note at home how long the time is between the drink and the potty for your child. I have one DD that needs to go about 10 minutes after a bottle of water, and the other one has a 45 minute delay, LOL!

We use to just stop at the next turn corner to wait it's out of the flow and easy to find your way back .
If you (person staying ) get to the front they have to go or exit because of timing of rides (getting on & off ) Messes with the flow.
Other then that you should not have a problem because most of the people you would have seen on the way out.

I have absolutely NO problem with taking the kids for a quick bathroom break then getting back into line. I do have a really big problem with something we experienced more than just a few times last week. One parent would get in line. After about 30 minutes, the rest of the family would come from another ride, snacks, etc. and jump ahead of all the people waiting. And I'm not talking about small families either!!! It was incredibly frustrating. I see having to get out of line for just a couple of minutes (for potty breaks) as something entirely different.

ITA - this happend in our October tip and I had never really experienced it before.

Unfortunately the more famillies that try and do this will make it more difficult for families like the OP who truly have to take one toddler to the bathroom.

Just remember there are going to be some rides where it just isn't practical to have your other family members pass them. Some of the line areas are just not too big and they are designed for a smooth flow of traffic. Hopefully, this won't become an issue at all for you. If you're that close to the front of the line you may want to just pick a meeting point for after. Then let the rest of your family move through. If you're further back then it shouldn't be such a problem.

I'm hoping we won't need to ask for the kindness of strangers behind us in line but more of a just in case - KWIM? That speedway line moves painfully slowly!! last time we went the wait was listed at 20 min and 35 mins into we still weren't the ride and I nearly resorted to nursing in line to keep my DD quiet!

I like the idea of making a potty run a condition to going on a ride. our kids are really motivated by things like that! and they're pretty good about holding it for a few minutes. unlike one of the posters, our kids find public bathrooms fascinating and must check out every one

I'd be ticked too if 15 people came into the line in front of me.
