Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you have ever experienced any line cutting at Disney. How does Disney handle it?

I was at Dorney Park in Pennsylvania yesterday with my family and very good friends. We were having a wonderful day, you know, good friends, beautiful day, enjoying the rides. Late in the afternoon, we experienced some line cutting on several rides. Now, there are signs posted that say, No line cutting for any reason, you may be asked to go to the end of the line, or even asked to leave the park. The thing is there is no one around to enforce that. I could see how this could start a fight. So it got me thinking about how Disney handles this. I have read somewhere (?) that they don't allow it, but I wonder how they enforce it.

Thanks.

I have never seen any signs that say that in Disney. People do unfortunately try to cut in line. It really is ashame when you see adults trying to squeeze along the walls in the rides just to get in front of others. On our last trip a couple behing me got pretty mad when 2 adults skipped us. a group of people behind us all pushed up ahead of them again, & they were pushed farther back then they started it was funny.

The Confession of an ACCIDENTAL Line Cut:

I arrived with my DH and Sons in tow for our first Character Buffet at the Grand Floridian. I was told by ADR that we needed to arrive and check in at THE PODIUM. So I walked into this area that was full of people milling around, spotted the Cast Member asked if she was the one we checked in with, she said yes "Please come with me to the podium." I get over there, and then I notice all these folks start looking at me. Then this fellow guest goes "Look, LADY, we have all been waiting here for the longest *** time, could you LET US GO FIRST PLEASE!!! GAWD!" I truly had no idea, I thought all of these folks had checked in, but nope there was no telling who was there "First" cause the CM had let people into the waiting area versus having them line up. Thankfully there was someone gracious enough (or pitied my family enough) to let me in to check in. The CM was very apologetic and the lady in question didn't so much as look at me when I apologize profusely.

So with regards to cutting, sometimes it is blatant other times a mistake in that many people.

Though I get infuriated when families send people to stand in line for them then a group of 20 comes streaming in front of my patiently waiting boys who are smacking each other and whining. Just enfuriates my DH! One time, he grabbed the attention of a CM and said, "I don't mind waiting my turn but this is ridiculous." They were asked to leave the line, even the guy waiting. So Disney is pretty Zero Tolerance.

So I know how it feels to accidentally tread where I shouldn't. It really brought down my first day getting yelled at! But, just stand up for you and yours. Yes, in a perfect world we are all courteous, patient, and kind. But to err is human!:headache:

I just don't get the mentality of some people who think this is acceptable. What makes your time or vacation more important than anyone else's. I mean didn't everyone learn not to do this in kindergarten????:headache: :sad2: :furious:

um...from the way I'm understanding this, how is it your fault if people were just standing around and didn't bother going to the podium to check in? :confused3 I don't think you line-cut, either purposefully or accidentally.

As to the OP, what defines line-cutting is a big debate here. I think it's generally agreed that blatant line-cutting is wrong, but it's difficult to call a CM's attention to the situation. Other situations are much more open...for example, can someone hold a place for one or two family members? Can a parent take a child out for the restroom and return to their place? Yup, whole can of worms.

I can tell you that during my last trip I didn't see any problems with line cutting (or I was too deliriously happy to even notice). The best way to handle it is just to blow it off and not let it ruin your day. That said, I've not been there at a super busy time and experienced large groups cutting in front of me; I can't blame people for getting upset at that, but it's still not worth it to dwell angrily on.

Thank you for seeing it that way! My DH said I made too much of it. But I am one of those Guests that holds the doors for kids etc. I just felt awful in front of 100 people being yelled at. I think though the woman who did the yelling was there on some sort of Make A Wish trip with her daughter so she was a bit tense, which I can understand. So I stood back and was perfectly willing to allow the whole of everyone to get on in. But, there were quite a few people who looked at me sympathetically throughout dinner. I thanked the lady who let me in line over and over (I am sure she thought I was off my rocker). But I didn't think I cut either. That's where the whole can of worms comes in.

I think we had to leave a line once with my DS #1, but I alerted the person behind me and they were more than happy to let us back in. I think we made friends with alot of folks in lines just by talking.

This is sort of how I imagined I'd handle a situation such as that: Just calmly walk around the line cutters and take my place back and if everyone follow suit then they would no longer be line cutters. I wouldn’t intentionally cause a conflict with them – just step around them and take my spot back. What response could they give to people doing that since they were the line cutters? :confused3

That is why it was so funny, because the line cutters where just looking at each other like what just happened!!!

I experienced line cutting last Monday at MK at the Pooh ride. A family of four went up the fast pass line and cut right under the chains directly in front of my family. I asked the cast member that was working if she saw what they did. Here was her response: "They didn't cut in line. They came up the fast pass line and then went under the chain."

I couldn't believe she said that....HELLO.....that is line cutting! Just wanted to share my experience!

I would have told the CM that was cutting and I'd be glad to call her supervisor out to explain it to her.

Disney's official policy is that they do not condone line-jumping of any kind for any reason. Once someone exits an attraction's queue, they may rejoin the queue at the end of the line. Guests are not permitted to save places in line for absent family members. Guests who are caught line-jumping may be asked to leave the attraction or worse.

That said, do many CMs look the other way? Given that we're trained to be as non-confrontational as possible, absolutely. Do we make exceptions when we see it? All the time. Should you line-jump and depend on CMs to make exceptions for you? NO.

A buddy of mine who works at BTMR had this to say:

yeah, happened to me last week. i had two really cute teenage girls come up to merge point and claimed they couldn't find their fastpasses. i told them i was real sorry but without fps they had to go back the way they came in and exit the ride, so they turned around and left. sure enough, ten minutes later, here they came thru merge thru the standby line which has a wait time of like 1 hour. like i wouldn't remember them! this time i told them to leave or i'd get security involved. that time they left for real.

Please play by the rules and everyone will have a much nicer vacation, folks.

Buzz! :cool1: I haven't run across a post of yours in a while so thought maybe you'd left us.

Where could we find the official policy? Is it in any of the Disney literature or is it another unwritten policy taught in training? "Seeing" the policy would help put a quick end to some of the debates. (Who am I kidding? Then it would be a debate of whether WDW was right or wrong. :rotfl: )

Well, a lady (oops, make that a woman. it apparently was not a LADY) beat the tar out of another one for cutting in front of her in line for the teacups a few weeks ago. I think I will definitely mind my P's and Q's when I am there in September! :thumbsup2

I've had some issues with my personal internet access being rather spotty. However, I'm told new Wi-Fi antennas have been installed in my place, so that should no longer be an issue. I'll post when I can.

It's part of CM training, but I wouldn't call it an unwritten policy. I mean, I'm certain it's written down in an Operating Guidelines binder somewhere.

Oh my gosh!!! I can not imagine getting that mad to do that in front of children. Did Disney do anything "woman" that did the beating?

Last I checked, she was charged with crimes for her actions and had to come back to the area to face the charges. The victim complained that Disney didn't do enough to help her and such and that they bungled the case. I didn't keep up with it enough beyond that to ever find out what happened. There was a huge thread on it here.

Cutting doesn't usually turn into an issue for us because we simply don't get in a line beyond 15 minutes and most of the time we wait less than 10.

That poor lady, I think I would have pressed my own battery charges on her. I guess Disney can only do so much. I agree with you on waiting in line. I hate to wait more then 15 minutes, that is why I try to go at least crowded times. If only I could get a teacher to travel with us

We're going to Dorney Park tomorrow...we live 10 minutes away and haven't been there in over 10 years because of all the ruder "line-cutting" people we experienced when we were there our last time!
Our poor kids are so deprived as we've never taken them there and we drive by DP alot-LOL! So tomorrow we're surprising them with a day at DP....I only hope the people aren't as rude as they were during our last visit!:rotfl:
