I have a group that needs to know for a 3 day. I’m just curious about the rest.

What is the $$$$ limit on a xx day cruise before they change your credit card? I’ll update here as I find out.
So:
• 2-5 days = onboard credit limit of $300.00
• 6-9 days = onboard credit limit of $500.00
• 10 days or greater = onboard credit limit of $700.00

Right?

I heard that shorter cruises were like $300ish. Thought that’s what a cm told me.

Yes, shorter cruises have a lower threshold but I don't what it is.

Yes, they will run an interim charge to the credit card on file at those thresholds.

They (DCL) do not seem to post that publicly or openly at all. I only found it when I was checking in, opted for a cash account, and that popped up as a warning/agreement.

My first cruise was cash and I had to keep running to the desk to pay or be cutoff at some event because I hit the limit. I was told they would not take cash in advance incase something was canceled.

Best thing to do if you're going to be using cash is put at least as much as you know you'll use on a gift card - you can actually purchase them at disneygiftcard.com - and take that to guest services to load your account. Easy peasy. And that way there is something to refund it to if there is a cancellation.

More or less. What I do is, I plan my excursions, activities, etc ahead of time, budget for them (get a general idea of how much I'll need for the things I want to do) and get gift cards to cover that amount. Then at some point after booking them, I'll call DCL and have them put my gift cards in my onboard account so I have enough credit there to cover it. Every couple of days, I'll pop over to Guest Services to see if everything is in good shape, and to add more money to my account using gcs, as necessary. If you do go the gift card route, make sure you keep your gift cards even if they're empty. All refunds will go back onto the original form of payment, so it'll go back onto that specific gift card.

I don't think a debit card would count as a cash account. They just want something they can charge your onboard account to when it gets to a certain amount.

Most of them were $25 and $50 GC’s in packs of 3, except 12 were $100’s.(I had some loooong payment phone calls to DCL) I haven’t thrown away the cards, but I haven’t called to find out which one it is either. I’m kinda happy they have $500 GCs now. Paid for my whole trip with just 5 cards. Plus Sam’s club sold them for around 476 for a $500 card this year. So that was nice.

Yep, they will take your gcs early. If you're calling ahead of time, I *think* you have to do it 3 days in advance. Everything seems to be 3 days in advance of embarkation. Combine your gcs ahead of time up to $1k per card, and it'll make your life easier.

You can pay for your DCL cruise booked through Costco with gcs. What they'll do is patch you through in a 3 way conference call with DCL, and you just give your gc info that way. The Costco agent I got even jotted down each gc # on his end, noted the amount on each card for reference, and even did the math all along the way, which turned out to be a good thing because the DCL agent was kind of frazzled, and got things mixed up at some point.

Edit: I had a similar issue with a port fees refund. I booked my placeholder with a gc, but I kept the gc, and I made notes and everything on it. When it came time to book the actual cruise, at the time, Disney Vacation Account was still running, so I used it to pay the rest of the deposit. Well, a few months after that, Disney decided to close the DVA and offered a bonus to those cashing out their accounts into an electronic gift card so I went for it. Fast forward to recently when the port fees had dropped. They refunded the amount back onto the gcs I'd used, so I went through and checked every gc I had literally six times. Maybe more. The refund wasn't on any of them. I called DCL to figure out what happened, and I guess they tried to refund it back onto the DVA, but since that account was closed, at no fault of mine, the money went into a limbo of sorts and no one could figure out where it went. Eventually, after a lot of circling around and around, they were able to figure out that it went onto the electronic gift card that was issued to me after the DVA closed. I didn't think to check that one because it wasn't in my stash of physical gift cards. I had it saved on my computer. Thank goodness. WHY DCL didn't put the refund back onto the last gcs I used, I don't know. Not only that, but DCL had spread the refund out...part of it was on the gc I used for the placeholder, and part of it was on the electronic gc from DVA. The easiest thing for EVERYONE is to combine the cards into as few as possible. Go to disneygiftcard.com and it is simple. You can put $1000 on each card.

As far as "putting it on early", I call the number for "Gifts and Amenities" (it's on the website - under "My Disney Cruise") and purchase onboard credit. It is VERY simple. But it will be MUCH easier if they have been combined and are on as few cards as possible.

As for Costco, I do not know anything about them. I am single and live in a NYC apartment and have no car. Ergo I have no need for bulk stuff nor do I have a way to transport it even if I did have the space or need. So it is a 100% useless place to me.

Good advice re: keeping the GCs. I've got more than a few stacks of rubber banded stacks for the Alaska cruise, the S. Caribbean...

Of note, we had a refund (port fees changed) from our last W. Caribbean that I called and asked if they'd apply the credit to the Alaska cruise we're doing this summer. The CM had to check with her supervisor, but it was no problem. She just didn't know the mechanics of applying the credit.
