Limitations on dining plan?

:wave2: Hi everyone,
We've purchased the Dining plan and I've been reading the menus and some dishes are really expensive! I know that Planet Holleywood has an upgrade fee, but what about other restaurants? Are most dishes included or do the waiters tell you otherwise? Thanks :sunny:

The signature Restaurants will tell you that you have to use 2 TS credits for that meal. The ones that will charge a surcharge are already noted. These are usually independently owned companies such as Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Puck's. But if it is on the dining plan and it doesn't state a surcharge will be applied for certain menu items then all menu items in that restuarant are included.

For those restaurants that do say a surcharge applys it is usually means entrees that cost more than $27.

Hope that helps!

The CM I spoke with this AM said that it was PH and WP who had the surcharge for certain items when on the mealplan. I can't remember if she said what the dollar amt was or not, though.

We just got back yesterday, and here's what I encountered:

Specialty drinks are not included, and that includes the smoothies at Le Cellier, glowing ice cube drinks at 50's PT, Sci Fi, etc, any drink that comes with a souvenir mug.

At 50's PT, the milkshake is considered dessert - so if you still want dessert, I suggest paying OOP for the milkshake.

Specialty coffees, like cappucino, lattes, etc aren't included. The regular coffee is included.

At Pepper Market (CSR) the only thing you can get for dessert is the muffin or cookie.

At POFQ food court, you can get the 6 piece beignet as your dessert.

At Main St Bakery, you can get any 2 items + a drink (any drink - powerade, milk, juice included)

At Sunshine Seasons (the Land, Epcot) the drink item is a medium sized (don't get the large cup)

The DDP was fun! It was fun being able to just order anything you wanted and not think about it.

We just used the free dining plan Sept 17th-24th and loved it. The only place we had any trouble with it was at San Angel Inn. We were splitting a meal and I wanted to use my DDE card to order the fundido appetizer and margaritas on a seperate ticket. The CM said you couldn't combine two discounts, so I said fine, my D-I-L would order the meal for herself using the dining plan and I would just order the fundido and margaritas for myself using my DDE card. He went to get a manager, who said that two discounts could not be used at the same table. I asked her what if my son and D-I-L were on the dining plan and I was not and had just met them there for a meal. Would I still not be able to order my meal on a seperate ticket using my DDE card? She just looked at me and again repeated that two discounts could not be used at the same table, even if they were on different tickets. When I told her we had been doing it all week, she said the other restaraunts were making a mistake and she knew the rules.

By the way, our service here also sucked. Our waiter delivered our order then disappeared. We didn't see him again until he brought our ticket. We tried several times to wave him over. My son finally got up and chased him down to request drink refills, which we never did get. If we could have had the tip removed from the bill we definitely would have, but we had already tangled with the manager over placing the seperate order for drinks and the fundido and didn't want to have to tangle with her again.

As far as other limitations on the dining plan, appetizers and desserts meant for two require 2 TS credits and Planet Hollywood doesn't tell you about the surcharge. My son and D-I-L ate there and when they asked about the Surf and Turf were simply told they could not have it on the dining plan. We had all eaten at Cap'n Jack's a couple of nights before and all ordered steaks. The waitress asked if we wanted loster tails added on and made a point of saying they were included on the dining plan My son told her he didn't like lobster and she told him to go ahead and order it and then give it to either me or my D-I-L. She obviously wanted to pad her tip, but really helped us maximize the Dining Plan there.

Would that be considered a CS meal?

yes, it's a CS meal. We used 1 CS credit for breakfast and got a danish, a quiche, and a diet coke on it. I then asked for a cup of water (free). DH and I shared this meal.

does it say so anywhere or where they just being goofballs? wondering if they were right and the others more lenient or they were just plain wrong :)

Thanks everyone for the help,

aubriee, that's what DH was wondering about, is if the lobster added on was an extra charge. seems like you can get some good meals for a good price! Of course DH & DS are huge fans of sea food and they were on :cloud9: when I told them it was included. Thanks

We just returned Saturday evening and this is what we encountered:

Kona Cafe - we got virgin strawberry daq. and shrimp and scallop add ons

LeCellier - two people could share the dessert sampler, no surf and turf

Spoodles - can't order the dessert sampler but could get shrimp add ons

WCC - no appetizer with the skillet but children under 3 get the skillet free

Overall the dining plan is an excellent value (we paid in April and it was free last week) the food was fantastic at Kona & Spoodles, good at CRT & WCC, average at LeCellier.

Just finished the Free Dining Plan and I am amazed that some of you people can eat that much food (plus shakes, smoothies, etc.). We had the dining plan and were at WDW for 5 nights plus a day on either end (6 days total). Paid for one character breakfast out of pocket and then never paid for food out of pocket until the last day when I got a Main Street Ice Cream Sunday. I had to really over-do it to use up all the credits.

I did get free surf-and-turf at Le Cellier (but was not very impressed with the restaurant...more on that later).

Pepper Market is a great deal (and has good food). Some of our single CS meals there were around $20. The cookie they give as a dessert is huge. Three of us could eat on one Mexican meal there. They even had Prime Rib one night and chicken Kiev for lunch one day. If you ever want to save money just cruise the leftovers people leave on their tables at Pepper Market. One day I saw a 3/4 uneaten pizza abandoned there. What a waste.

1900 Park Faire provided coffee and juice free in addition to the buffet.

Snack credits worked just fine everywhere I tried to use them (but their best use was on the Wine and Food stands).

I supplemented every tip at TS places.
