I never could make it to those early DIS Cons, but we used to have meets at Disneyland, too. I never took the Mickey paint chips, but I did make my own, and I had a DIS button that was lime green, and I think I also had an antenna topper.
I remember the thread that was created where someone asked what we should do to recognize each other in the parks. Someone mentioned ribbons and there was a poll on what color those ribbons should be. Lime green won. I'm thinking that thread was in 2000 or later. I went in June 1999 for the first time, and lime green wasn't a thing back then.
Still have these on my computer - and the buttons are from a couple of friends when we met up at DL (2006).
Dan, thanks for that blast from the past. I loved looking at the Riddlecon pictures. And that “little boy” with me is now a Sargent in the Secret Service and a dad.

2003. Only my son was with us because DD was at drum major academy.
I am still in touch with Laura lars624 and Laura thelk4, plus some other DISsers that weren't there. We have a thread on Proboards since the big split of the DIS.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I had nothing to do with the creation of the sign clip-art. I just knew where it was in the Camping Forum and thought you all might be interested since a lot of people don't have interest in camping. Although I would add that you may want to read around in there just for fun!
@Breezy_Carol as I passed over your thread, I wondered if you were referring to lime green Mickey’s and you were! So happy I stopped by to see.
I think Meriweather made this for me. Plus, I did have the Mickey Ears paint chip on my camera case.
I do think that most of the Disboards people whom I stayed in touch with were not people who stopped by to say hello because of the Mickey ears. We connected here first and planned to meet and then recognized each other by the Mickey ear.
When we went back in 2004 and 2005, I put mine on my backyard on its on line. Only once during both trips did I get a kind of 'knowing' smile from another park goer. lol
One of my fondest memories! Hopefully I can link. This was 2008! WOW how time flies! I am on the right in the white shirt. I was SO excited to meet someone and prove to my husband that the DIS boards were real and Big Time!!
