Lilo & Stitch on DVD December 3rd

I can only speak for myself, but I will definitely be picking L&S up around the release date, or via pre-order.

If there were a two-disc "Collector's Edition" available at that time, I'd get that version. However, if they release the two-disc set later, I will not be buying it.

Are there really that many people who will buy both versions? Enough to offset the loss due to customers like me, who will only buy the more expensive version if it comes out on the original release date?

It seems that those who would buy the CE will be the bigger fans of the movie, and will buy whatever version comes out on the first release date because they want the movie. But are there enough who love it enough to either wait for the CE, or buy the CE only 2 months after buying the regular version?

I don't have a problem waiting until the CE gets released. There is no law that says I have to buy the movie the day it gets released or not at all. There is Blockbuster, or in my case Netflix.

It makes sense for the movie to be released before Christmas. The fans want it for their Christmas presents, and the company wants the revenue. It really is a win - win. But the CE isn't ready for L&S, and as a fan of CE's I would prefer the company doesn't rush it, and end up having to leave off material. And there's another group to consider, the parents who don't want any extra material, or at least don't want to pay the extra $10-$20 for stuff their 4 yr old doesn't want to see. The just want the movie, for under $20. Disney loses these guys when they just release the CE's.

Matt, you could very well be correct. There might not be that many people willing to buy two copies.

I'm just wondering why at one point it was feasible to have both the 1 disc and the 2 disc set, and now it's not.

There have to be enough people buying them to make it profitable, so why not just make it an option at pre-order?

Most studios have experimented with Collector's Edition release strategies with limited success no matter what is tried.

Case in point--How many people bought the "Pearl Harbor" CE that came out the first of June with 12 hours of extra material? Sales numbers were not too great and this was 6 months after the original release. On the other hand, retailers and consumers report great confusion when several different versions of a title are released on the initial street date. There are many who want just the movie without any extras so they almost have to make those.

This is a great debate, because the industry itself has never figured this one out Their sales numbers on CE's seem to suffer for one reason or another no matter when they are released.

As a video retailer myself, I think they need to be prepared well in advance and released on the street date along with the plain movie versions. If all studios did this on all titles, the public would expect it and would know that they could ask for the CE and get it. When they wait until 6 months later, for example, many consumers, and retailers as well, are no longer interested. They are focused on the current crop of new titles.

My post may have been pointless anyway.

I looked up Beauty and Monsters on amazon, and both came up with 2 disc sets. A single-disc version was not available.

In that instance, strike my criticism, and just focus on the woo-hoo of a 12/3 Lilo release date! :)

Disneystore.com started taking pre-orders for Lilo and Stitch yesterday. You can get the DVD w/ four lithographs for $19.99, the DVD w/ four lithographs, a plush Stitch and a pin for $29.99 or you can order four lithograph frames for $59, and get the movie and lithographs for free. It says you can order through 12/2.

Still no word on pre-sells through TDS.

Did anybody else see how cheap the lithographs were for the beauty and the beast preorder?

EXCUSE ME?????

Those are beautiful lithos, and on very high quality paper, such as Snow White was on. Not glossy paper like some of the other lithos!

To each his own, I guess... but they have been FLYING out of our local store!

I have an uncle that lives close to NYC and sometimes he gets us "bootleg" copies of videos. The quality is pitiful (I guess somebody puts a camcorder in their fly or something). Anyway, these bootlegs are evidently all over the streets of NY (and nearby NJ). I guess it makes sense nowadays to release vidoes sooner. I for one am thirilled that the movie is coming to video, in legitimate form, by Xmas!

I think Lilo and Stitch is special. The animation is gorgeous, the soundtrack is great (we listen to it while driving to Mickey!) but best of all, NO ONE GETS KILLED! Granted, Mom and Dad are deceased by the time the movie opens, BUT, I like that there are no "villians" that have to be killed off (as in Pocahontas, Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, etc.) What a nice change. I will be at Walmart (our Disney Store closed :( ) on the day the movie comes out!
