To ask about tickets to ride the Lilly Belle, does the entire party have to be there so they have a count, or could I leave my in-laws to rest in the town square while I check at the train station?

No, I always make the run to main street station solo. Never had a problem reserving for my family.

We were there last week and LB wasn't open for tours. I was told it was too hot.

The tickets themselves are souvenirs you get as you board or right after you board the LB. You just need a head count for reservation--send one person. And they don't run it when it's really hot, so be flexible.

Don't know much about Disneyland. Have only been there once. Have been to the World alot. Anyway , what is ticket / Lilly Belle thing you speak off?

This is exactly what I was going to ask! I thought the Lilly Belle was a train, but I just assumed that they ran like WDW's do. There is so much to learn about planning a trip to DL!

We are going in December so hopefully heat won't be a problem. But I do hear you have to be flexible because its not always running, especially when its hot.
It also doesn't come out if there is a chance of rain.

The Lilly Belle is a private passenger car. Disney offers roundtrip rides from Main Street station every day. The do not allow people in it if it's too hot (no AC), raining (don't want to ruin the carpeting), or too cold (no heat). Main Street station has a dry erase board in an office where they have times listed. Many slots are reserved for VIP tours. The remaining ones are up for grabs for any guest who inquires.

Most slots are reserved by late morning. We usually have an EMH breakfast at Minnie's, then I walk back to the station when it opens (regular park opening time). We tried last week during our APEE and as I said in an earlier post they were not doing tours.

They usually try to get a dozen people for each time slot. I'm a family of seven and we usually are teamed up with a couple or small family. Many people are under the impression that they get a PRIVATE trip. Please note that the majority of time slots are filled with more than one family/group.

The conductor will let you know what times are available. You pick a slot and the conductor will tell you the time to return and place. Sometimes they are behind because the train times are off, but it usually isn't a long wait.

A conductor will ride with you. Sometimes the conductors are wonderful guides who talk throughout the ride, telling you the history of the Lilly Belle and some Disneyland trivia. Other times the conductor will just ride along silently. Depends on the conductor.

Google the Lilly Belle for pictures of the exterior/interior.

The LB is a great tradition for my family. We were very sad to have missed a ride last week.

Hope this helps. :)

Alright- seriously....how did I not know about this?!?:confused3

This looks great and something that my grandparents would really enjoy. Tell me- in the link it says to proceed directly to the 2nd story of the Railroad Station. Say what?? Is there a railroad station on Main? Or do I just go to the train depot on Main St?? I'm confused- help me please!:flower3:

Of course there's a rail station on Main Street, you walk in under the tracks and then to your immediate left (or right if you go in the other side) are the stairs to climb to the rail station. I think you're confusing the train depot and rail station, they are the same thing. You go inside and ask one of the conductors there if the LB is out and if so ask for a reservation, you just need to give a name and party size and if there is room you can ride. :) We've done this many times.

Here are pictures of the front and back of the Lilly Belle tickets. We received our tickets when we were on board. They had lost the hole punch when we rode, so they are not punched.

Wow! I have been going to Disneyland for about fifty years and I never knew this. I am going to DL next week with my adult daughter and I am going to see if we can ride the LB. Something new to share with my daughter!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!

During our trip we are seeing that only 3 of 4 trains are running--does that limit the rides on Lilly Belle? (in addition to weather limitations)

The LillyBelle is a converted normal sized passenger car...it was the only enclosed car that was retained by Disney when they sold off all the enclosed passenger cars...one of the two original trains had all enclosed cars like a passenger train from the 1800s.
When the Grand Canyon diorama was added the enclosed passenger cars made for tough viewing so they were retired...plus with them being enclosed passenger cars and mail/baggage cars, they were slow in loading and unloading.
LB rides at the end of one of the trains when they decide the weather is appropriate...rides are only given when there is a CM (conductor) available to ride along with you and give you some commentary.

Ok, I am looking at my map as I type this!:scratchin

If I were to walk under the tracks and I'm now on Main St- smack in the middle is the Disneyland Railroad. Since you say go left or go right depending on which side you enter from- I'm assuming you mean that I will end up in the middle??:confused3

You said the train depot & rail station are the same. So basically I just go like I'm heading to ride the train & ask a CM about the LB. Correct??

This is what you want to do. I think you may be confusing yourself about the directions. Just go up the steps like you are boarding the train and find a CM to ask about the LB.

Yes, exactly, you're way over thinking this. :) Enter the park as you normally do (we always go under the placard that says you're leaving the world of today) and when you get into the area with the street you simply go up the stairs as if you are boarding the train, once inside the small building at the top of the stairs find a CM (any CM but there is also a small door to the right as you enter that you can try to knock on) and ask if the LB is out and if it's possible to ride? They have a sign up sheet in the little door so they can check and let you know. :)

On Sat, the punch was in the conductor's office.

I am hope hope hoping for a ride in November. The last two trips I was thwarted. Not on the tracks both times. The second time, the CM wasn't even nice about it. Didn't want to wait to get into the station the second day (can you believe there was that long of a wait!?) and didn't bother the third. It was pretty hot that week, so that may have been a waste of time anyhow. If no luck on our next trip, I may be forced to accept that the gods don't want me to ride...

Only certain trains can pull it, so if the train is down, then the Lilly Belle doesn't come out. I've always seen it on the Ward Kimball.
