Liki Tiki Resort

We are going to be staying at the Liki Tiki and the pictures are wonderful and so is the write up. But all these can be deceiving. Anyone been there? and what is your opinion of it. (If it's as good as it looks, is it worth buying a time share on the secondary mkt?)

don't buy a timeshare in Orlando - unless you are buying Disney.

I have brought one in SA ($350) and the maintence fees will be less than $200 - an Orlando timeshare maintence fees will run you between $400 and $600 per year - they are expensive. With my SA timeshare I can trade into Orlando - no problem.

I am staying at the Hilton Grand Vacation Club in a 2-bedroom (i have only a 1 bedroom) for October to celebrate my mother birthday and next year we are staying at the Sheraton's Vistana Resort for Thanksgiving.

buying a timeshare can be very expensive - learn the lesson now - don't make the mistake I did (besides Disney I also brought Westgate)

DVC is a bit differ - first of all it is on Disney property so the demand is great. Secondly, you can easily rent you points if you need to - there is a board on this site. Thirdly, Disney kepts the value up by buying any DVC resale that they feel is underpriced. So they are also working to make sure your DVC is good - this is the only timeshare that I know that the value actually went up not down (there are a several Marriotts that have done this too).

so if you want one in Orlando then I would buy DVC. If you want one to trade to Orlando then buy SA or some other cheaper timeshare and trade to Orlando.

I've never had a timeshare, but have learned through my sister and my mom. My sister told me that IF I was ever to buy a timeshare, I should buy 2nd hand (or whatever it's called--not directly from the timeshare company) because the prices are a lot cheaper. Of course she's not talking about the DVC timeshares, but she has at least two others and is not impressed with the rules, maintenance fees, etc. BTW, she doesn't advise getting one at all.
