Being brand new DVC owners that made our first on-site trip earlier this month, we toured all the resorts.

Knowing from these boards that BCV, BWV and VWL were more of the sought after resorts. We completely agreed with BCV & BWV, but didn't with VWL, but couldn't explain why.....until we realized that the pine trees all over the place reminded us of home (Michigan)...thus we didn't want to vacation where we live.

I wonder if the people that love VWL, don't live in the North or do live in large cities and like that woodsy feel?

Just curious, thought it was a beautiful resort (as were all), but wouldn't want to stay there - even though we probably will, just to try out all the resorts over the upcoming years!

I live in central NJ, I own at BWV. Is it because NJ is known for the boardwalks here. I'm not sure but I do love the BWV.

More room for the rest of us :rotfl: We have plenty of pine trees here, but we still love VWL. Heading back in a few months. Each property has it's own charm. Until you stay there, you really can't appreciate it.

:confused3 We live in Michigan, and the WL looks nothing like where we live. No large log structures, no great stone fireplaces, no geysers anywhere around here. ;)

Even before we became DVC owners we ruled out staying at WL/VWL for exactly that reason. We live in a wooded area with pine trees everywhere. Why would I want to go to Florida and look at pine trees? I can do that anytime at home.

Then we became DVC owners (last July) and decided to try VWL for a couple of nights on our first trip to WDW as DVC owners... and we LOVED it! We loved the atmosphere there -- the theming is perfect -- loved the magnificent lobby, the stream that starts in the lobby, flows into the pool and out to the lake, the geyser, the background music, the decor, the peaceful feeling of the whole place. Were there a lot of pine trees? Hmmm... I hardly noticed 'em!

BDB - We're from NJ and bought our DVC membership at VWL. We feel the theme is spectacular and the lobby is magnificent. What I truly love is after being at the theme parks, you come back to the WL and there is peacefulness about the place. I like the fact that there isn't a big hustle and bustle feel to it. I think Disney hit a home-run with the design of the WL.

We haven't experienced the other DVC resorts, but we are looking forward to BCV or BWV.

Chicago here, right in the city, house literally next to the El and we own ad VWL. Love it. Love the seclusion and the theming. The world just melts away.

The only other place we've stayed is BCV. liked the neighborhood but didn't care for the resort. Just not our cup of tea. It felt too crowded and cramped and closed in. But we did like the location.

We lived in S FL when we fell in love with WL. Loved it because it did NOT have palm trees.

We lived in NC when we bought at VWL. I guess we were hooked by then.... :thumbsup2

I was born and raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and moved to Wyoming. We have plenty of pine trees, mountains and log cabins here. We love the atmosphere of the WLV, and the fact that after coming home after a long day, there's just a short jaunt and an elevator to any place we want to be. We also enjoy the very quiet, and calming environment.

Well, we have lived all over, and we own both VWL and BCV. The location at BCV cannot be beat :thumbsup2 BUT we bought VWL specifically to get Christmas at the 11 month window. We were there last Christmas and it was all we had dreamed it would be and more  The smaller resorts are harder to get into during the busy times and that is why they are all so sought after.

A few pine trees doesn't make VWL even remotely similar to the pine tree infested great Northeast. But I like it anyway. As one who lives close to both mountains and oceans, I'll admit I might find the beach themed resorts a bit more appealing to me personally if they had actual beaches attached to them. But since they don't, I'll just have to "make do" with the frumpy ole Wilderness Lodge and Villas! :)

I grew up in southern Ohio and now live in the big city so miss the pine trees! I really enjoyed staying at VWL although we have only gotten to stay there for a night or 2 in a row as there is never availability there when we want to go. It doesn't seem as crowded as the other resorts and seems very remote although it is just a step away from the MK. I am hoping that we will be able to get in there at the 7 month window for March.

This is similar to why I love BCV. I grew up with Cape Cod, which I loved, but DH made me move from there 12 years ago. So whenever I go to BCV, it reminds me of summer at the Cape, including the ice cream! Yet, 14 years ago, right after BC opened, I toured it and had no desire to stay there. It reminded me too much of home. Now that's one reason I love it there!

I was beginning to think it was just me! I have to say, we didn't stay at the VWL, but we did go check them out and ate at the WC. Although, it is a Grand Lodge and Disney did an awesome job on it, I don't really have a desire to stay there! :scared:
I too would feel like I am vacationing at home, since I live in the NW. When I go on vacation, I like to be somewhere different than my home.
I know there are so many out there that disagree with my opinion on this. I just figure that there will be one more spot open for someone who really wants it! That is the great thing about DVC, there is something for everyone! :thumbsup2

You're not the only one I've heard who has said that VWL was not their cup of tea because it was too much like home. I could certainly understand someone not being into that decor even if it wasn't like their home. For example, some people most prefer an elegant feel to their accommodations, so BCV or SSR would work better for them.

For me, VWL is my taste to a tee. Of all the Disney resorts, I only like Grand Californian better - and not by much.

There's something for everyone, which is one of the reasons it's so great.

We're from southern NJ and we fell in love with VWL on our first trip there 9/04. It's very calming to me, peaceful and the kids LOVED it. I have NO desire to ever stay at the Boardwalk Villas since I pretty much live there!! I lived within walking distance of the boardwalk until I got married at the age of 22. In light of that, it holds no appeal as far as I'm concerned. The VWL are so different then what we're used to!

Shelby :cutie:

Well, wouldn't that make the "Welcome Home" DVC motto all the more appropriate? :teeth:

That is the great thing about DVC, there is something for everyone!
And thus is one reason why Disney has been so successful with DVC. I, too, live in the mountains and among the trees (plus I've lived in Colorado and Alaska to boot!), but I love that sort of atmosphere. Best of all, I enjoy the theming, the music, and the general sense of calm and quiet most other resorts don't provide. I've never been a huge beach fan, so BCV and BWV just aren't high on my list to visit. And that will leave more room for those who DO love those areas! In my mind, WDW exists as an escape, whether it be from reality or as a means to enjoy a bit of what inspires you the most. Me? I'm inspired by majestic beauty such as the mountains of Alaska, and VWL gives me just a hint of that feeling I miss from no longer living there. So, each to his or her own, and vive le difference! paw:

Dh and I really enjoy the VWL also. Don't really know why, Maybe it is because it was the first DVC resort we stayed at :confused3 or maybe because it is so peaceful and quiet. We enjoy that.

Because of all the choices, I'm lovin' my DVC.
