Thanks for the link. That is a little more in-depth than my find. ;)

It is really cool to see what they have done for the theming.... although it still isn't what I would have put there. :confused3

I am not a big fan of this area of the park (though I do have a secret passion for Dinosaur), the blog did make me like it a bit more.

I love the theming in Asia and Africa and I'd love to see more info on the theming for the other areas as I am sure there is amazing imagineer history there too.

I know, Somali! I swear the other one was even more unusual....but I don't think it was blankistani!

Maybe like Hopi or Cree?

I'd become a vegetarian I think.

Or make Jeff grind the meat.

Not a choice here. You'd starve. They have literally never heard of brocolli or celery. Up until THIS year, in the winter, we could ONLY get onions, carrots, potatoes and cabbage. Fruit?? Apples, bananas and oranges. That's IT!

So cute, the boys were checking out the Yurt (picture coming, I promise!) and asking about it and I was telling them about you and the fact that someday they might get to meet you since even though you live in Blankistani now...you are moving back to Oregon and have family in Olympia. They thought that was very cool.

Almost as cool as the feel of the camel fur.

Very cool! They would like to see our pix I think; when we finally meet I'll bring a bunch on a flash.

AK.

I think we really lucked out in 2004. We didn't know what to expect, at all. And for whatever reason, it just "clicked".

Check it out.

Then again it may have been there was really good beer at the Dawa bar which boded well for a bunch of PNW beer snobs in a very hot park in a state full of really bad beer and our kids were wet, happy and dancing. And getting their inner zen on. I don't think this water area still exists but know it was by Dawa. It is my mission to try and find it!

FOTLK, Kali and the Safari sealed the deal. I was really worried that T&K wouldn't love it last year but they did! I would have loved more time there on the last trip and that was a first.

As to back story, check this blog out. Shamelessy copied from Heidi (Mryppns) TR. Also about Dinoland.

http://land.allears.net/blogs/jackspence/2009/08/chester_and_hesters_dinorama.html

I love the photo with the Africans! So ethnic! Yeah, i"m sure the Dawa beer had something good to do with getting the AK mojo on. I think I saw that on Heidi's report, but will double check in a minute.

Cynthia I was just going to post the blog from Heidi's tr but you beat me to it. :)

WOW! Word travels fast! Good thinking everyone!

LOL! We can all copy Heidi! That's so cool. I love how things spread :goodvibes

it's a great read!

Multi copies, I think that's a first. ;)

It looks like we all were thinking the same thing. I was thinking of linking too.....:rotfl2:

Kind of like us all thinking about headcheese on the same evening. :confused3:rotfl2:

I would link If I knew how !!!:lmao:

You can do it, Rosie!!! Let me know if you need a tutorial.

you've mastered pictures grasshopper....now it's time to move on to

linkage

Yup, a skill a day keeps the readers to stay.

Thanks for the link. That is a little more in-depth than my find. ;)

but yours was definitly good to read (again) too!!! I think we can safely say we are all experts now at navigating Dinoland. I'd have chosen something different here too. In fact, I'd have gone with the mythical creatures like they had originally planned- minotuars, unicorns, dragons, etc.... just think of the possibilities!!

ME TOO! The Imagineering Guides really helped me with this!

Ok I don't even know what Cree is! It was something I recognized....

I'd pass on the cabbage but I can do a lot with the rest. In fact on the fruit that's pretty much all I ever buy. Not that I don't like the rest but it requires refrigeration and that means the following happens.

It takes up valuable space
No one eats it. Why I don't know. They love those fruits but they will not LOOK in the fridge for them. If it's out in a bowl in the kitchen, it disappears. If looking is required, forget it.

And then it goes bad!

VERY frustrating. But overall, a good thing as apples and bananas are far cheaper than berries!

They would LOVE to see pics! Evan kept petting the Yurt.

I love that pic too, and I swear there are more but my MOM has them and despite my REPEATED and CONSTANT nagging...she's holding out. Ignoring me, not responding at all.

Which means something.

Like she's making me a book. I can smell it.

Yep, Heidi just got a three thumbs up and doesn't even know it!

Cree is another Native American Tribe.

Kinda the same here, but I go one step further. If it's cut up on the table, it disappears. Apparently mine are too lazy to even reach into the bowl. I draw the line at peeling it though.

Wanna hear somthing cool!? My in-laws house that we may end up buying has a u-pick across the street. They grow EVERYTHING. Berries, all kinds, corn, tomatoes, pumpkins- all kinds of great stuff.

They would LOVE to see pics! Evan kept petting the Yurt.

Ok, dokey. I'll stick the best folder of pix onto it, for future meets. Cherie, you'll be there too, right?

Moms always think they know everything that's going on (which is true), but I know just about everything Mom is up too also. It goes both ways.

You are a far nicer mom than I. I refuse to cut. It's the principle of the thing.

:rotfl:

U Pick! Oh that makes me miss my IL garden....you just can't grow stuff in this climate they way you could there. Except berries. Which are considered a weed! Love them but too invasive. Not to mention I don't have the land or the exposure for it.

Cherie better be!

Thanksgiving weekend 2010 Great Wolf Lodge???????

You get me wrong. It's entirely for selfish reasons I cut. I cut the half rotten stuff, just to get rid of it. Otherwise it falls into a state of further putridness. Other moms might buy fresher stuff, but they get the stuff they should have eaten earlier served- like it or not.

Wheels are certainly turning!!! Loving this idea!!! We'll most likely be in Oly that Thursday, so maybe on the way back down?? Like Satuday night?

Ok, you are excused. I do that too.

Or just tell them to eat around it!

They beg for pears but won't eat them all . It doesn't matter if it's a costco 12 pack or 3 from the grocery there is always 1-3 left that starts to turn to mush and it just breaks my heart!

I do the same thing with potatoes...and bread...and cheese....

no one's gotten sick yet.

:rotfl:

Saturday would be perfect! We usually do downtown on Friday for the lighting of the tree and all that rot.

Bread's good until it's moldy! If it's stale it goes to bread crumbs or bread pudding or French Toast.

Ditto for the cheese. If the French can eat moldy cheese, then so can we, I suppose.

I feel like I never got to this post as things turned sour just as you put it up. First off, Western Oregon has a HUGE Hispanic population. In the town of Woodburn alone the demographics say that it is 26% Latino!!!!! The reason is the high agriculture, but many are becoming permanent citizens. Yeah, I'm going to need/ want some Spanish. ;)
Wow! Who would have known! It makes sense.
I'm so sorry your not feeling well, I hope you feel better soon. As to my being up very late....I don't actually have a job outside the home, I'm just a seriously bad night owl. Since I've gotten older, having much more than five-six hours of sleep isn't working for me. :confused3 Some times less. But! It catches up with me and then I sleep for like 10 hrs. and then I can't sleep the next night. I'm hoping it passes, and soon.

It is truly a Godsend having Gulnara to help me! When we first arrived, I was literally drowning in dishes and laundry. I did VERY little else, as I had to study language 40 hours a week. :teacher:

Holy cow! That's a lot of studying! I wish I had the gift for languages. God's not done with me yet, so who knows what new creative gift He'll drop me in the near future, He dropped in me the ability to do homeschooling with my daughter. Neeeeever thought that would happen. :sad2:

It would be very weird for me to NOT have a helper around the house. Here's how it works here. The youngest male child ALWAYS stays home after he is married, and his wife becomes the "slave" of the home. They are expected to care for the aging parents, but in return inherit the home and land. So there is always a helper in the home. For older siblings and their families, there is a social system of younger women being obligated to help when circumstances arise such as parties, new babies, etc... to go over and help the relative. So, to have someone around to share the load is normal, and necessary. No one has ever batted an eye about us having someone to help with shopping, prep cooking, laundry, or cleaning. She also pays our bills and navigates property/neighbor issues. Most women in the US HAVE househelpers but do not realize it. They are called vacuum cleaners, butchers who grind their meat for them, clothes dryers, automatic bill pay, and sidewalks to keep most of the mud out of the house. We have none of those.

 Thank you for that! I love learning about other cultures and I loved learning from this last sentence how I need to be more greatful for what I have. I haven't felt ungreatful mind you, but it's easy to take for granted the things you never have to think about such as side walks, dryers, vaccum cleaners. I can't even imagine not having those things or people in my life.
I bet when you return, you'll be so entirely greatful for even the smallest thing. I'm greatful you have your house helper there to help you and your family.

AK, theming wise, is my favorite park. If I want to go to a park and relax, I go to AK.

Come visit my house and just wait around late at night. We have lots of possums..In fact one was hanging out at my front door a few weeks ago. I thought it was a cat at first.....:scared1::scared1:

I hope you don't do like that woman in the commercial and go out on our porch without your glasses and invite the little booger in thinking it's your cat! :scared1:

That's what I was getting at. Now that I know where to look for the visual puns and hidden gems- you know the not-so-obvious, but great stuff that Imagineering comes up with, I can go with a different set of eyes. Honestly, I can say even with the paradigm shift I have to make, I like it better than Future World. Maybe even better than DHS. :confused3 I like it for photo ops for sure! :thumbsup2

opossums?? Don't know. Never seem one. Apparently my recently deceased grandfather would hunt them for dinner in Arkansas though. That was during the depression. I actually have a recipe or two for stewed possum!

:lmao: but chewy.

I guess the stories, visuals, and hidden gems are lost on me. I've only been once, and not very long at that. What am I missing?!?
Liesa, are you feeling any better today? I hate it that your sick on top of everything else. It seems to happen for a lot of people when the let down of the anticipated event has finally happened.

You're welcome!! For all the things I complain about in living here, there's a lot of good too!!! My kids are safe from creepos, ALL the food is organic, life is simple, and best of all, we can walk into any pharmacy and get antibiotics when we need them- for about $2. I'm bringing a bunch back with me. Who wants to pay $20 just to have a doctor tell you you're sick and need an antibiotic?? Brother...:sad2:

Liesa, are you feeling any better today? I hate it that your sick on top of everything else. It seems to happen for a lot of people when the let down of the anticipated event has finally happened.

For example the municipalities of Anandapur and Harambe have a whole story and "residents" that they've created around the areas (Asia and Africa respectively) Harambe residents realized that for the good of their land and welfare, they need to protect the animals, rather than allow gaming and poaching to continue, so they created, from grassroots efforts, a game preserve meant for education. That's just one example.

The ancient palace ruins of the Maharaja Trail represent the palaces of actually 4 dynasties and the sultans of each era. Each one was focused on different thing such as hedonistic sensual pleasures, subduing (hunting) animals, another living in harmony with them, and the 4th in seclusion. The Imagineering Field Guides were really helpful understanding all that. Now I can go and see the murals there, and know what they mean. It's like the lights went on.

I would love that!!!

Hi MeMom!!! Doesn't that sound fun!!?? I'm pretty sure they are organic too. They always gave a discount to my MIL, and hope they will for us too. And after they close she was always free to glean the leftovers.
