A new reader!!!!! OK, I'm glad I was sitting down, cuz, well, when a new reader comes along I get all shivery and excited like!!!

WELCOME!!! (Like I've told a few others before you, I'd use the welcome smilie thing, but I'd have to open up a new page and find it, and that takes a long time, so you get a cheerleader instead.)

So, Ty! We're really glad you're here!! We have regular coffee hour every evening (your time), so pop in often and hang out!!!

Our trip is Sept 5-14th and as you already know we're just 3 ladies out for a good time!!! We're getting all dorked out with matching shirts, have some fabulous ADRs planned and would LOVE to meet up if our dates overlap.

Math is a subject that bears the brunt of much hilarity and joking around here. Just so you're warned. maroo does all our math, but mistakenly miscalculated my leftover brain one day, so was almost kicked off of math duty.



It's like 1:00 in the morning here, and so I"m headed off to bed. But I promise I will pop in on yours tomorrow sometime! Bye for now.

Mom passed away after morning coffee in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.

In a way, all of us are relieved a bit, in that she didn't have to suffer with a long drawn out death from cancer. It is sweet that after her morning coffee with her husband of almost 50 years she passed relatively peacefully. What a tender way God showed her mercy.

Amen. As a nurse, I can say that yes... she was truly blessed.

Liesa, I will be thinking about your family today and praying for your hubby and FIL.

You know what, Kathy?? You reminded me of something I totally forgot to mention!!! She herself was a hospice nurse for many years!! She knew ALL too very well what the end looks like and she didn't want that for herself. I wonder how many times she prayed with a hospice nurse's heart about her own situation.

Here is a real one in the mountains. They really, really do live in these during the grazing months!! Can you imagine??!!

It reminds me of a book I read where one of the characters was building her own sustainable yurt to live in, except it had plumbing and electricity and even windows I think?

It would be the plumbing/running water that might me an issue for me....

Dear All,

It's been a long night/day. We got a phonecall at 4:00 this morning from my own mother, after my SIL wrote a note via FB- strange how news of this magnitude can be carried along.

Mom passed away after morning coffee in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. It may have been an embolism in her lung that might have been precipitated by the draining procedure she had had earlier in the week.

In a way, all of us are relieved a bit, in that she didn't have to suffer with a long drawn out death from cancer. It is sweet that after her morning coffee with her husband of almost 50 years she passed relatively peacefully. What a tender way God showed her mercy.

Liesa, I am so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. What a blessing that she went so quickly and peacefully - God is good! I'll be thinking of you and praying for your family to be at peace...... and that your water stays on for the next two weeks!

That sounds like a northwest kind of thing. If she knew what real yurts were like, she'd probably think that it wasn't such a romantic idea. They are full of fleas and ticks from the animals they let wander in, they aren't so warm when it's -35 out, and when the wind blows they are a ton of maintenance. If you haven't seen the Weeping Camel, I can highly recommend it for a great real life view of what life is like in a yurt.

I've always wondered what kind of work you do that keeps you up late- or if it is just your body's schedule to be a night owl?? I thought for a while you might work swing shift or something.

Today, Rebekah finally got sick enough that I called the doctor we put her on an antibiotic. It was one of those cases where it's just not clear if it's a viral cold or flu of if it is an infection that drugs would help. She really needed to either get worse or better, and as weird as that sounds, I'm glad she got bad enough for me to really know. The doc says she should start to feel much better already by tomorrow morning, so I'm encouraged.

HOWEVER, Not enough sleep+Major amounts of stress+ Extra work load+ Infection in the house= The Perfect Storm to Make Someone Else Sick. That ended up being me today. I woke up at 4:30 to starving puppies screaming at the door, so up it was to feed them. I felt progressively worse and by 10:00 when my househelper came I was so bad I simply had to go back to bed. My head feels like it's going to explode off. I just stuck a thermometer in my mouth.... hang on

Okay meantime, I'll just tell you that we're having Shepherd's Pie for dinner, but my househelper bought peas instead of green beans. She saw the word "green" (in Blankastani) and guessed at what vegetable I was talking about. Ah well, it's hot food, and I didn't have to cook it.

Nope no fever? OK, why do I feel this bad?? Weird. My goal is to get another episode of A Newbie's Trip- Clueless Style up tonight- we'll see.

I feel like I never got to this post as things turned sour just as you put it up. First off, Western Oregon has a HUGE Hispanic population. In the town of Woodburn alone the demographics say that it is 26% Latino!!!!! The reason is the high agriculture, but many are becoming permanent citizens. Yeah, I'm going to need/ want some Spanish.

It must be a God send having help in the house, especially since you homeschool. I know a lot of women where I live who would be thrilled to have a house helper while they homeschooled all day, they of course have more than one child like you, so I totally understand.

It is truly a Godsend having Gulnara to help me! When we first arrived, I was literally drowning in dishes and laundry. I did VERY little else, as I had to study language 40 hours a week.

It's funny to see what some cultures think as a norm and what some don't. In America we don't think having a house helper or a nanny is something you have unless you work out of the home for the most part, or your filthy rich.
Where as other cultures don't see it that way at all, in fact it would probably be considered rude (probably not the right term) in some places if you didn't hire help.

It would be very weird for me to NOT have a helper around the house. Here's how it works here. The youngest male child ALWAYS stays home after he is married, and his wife becomes the "slave" of the home. They are expected to care for the aging parents, but in return inherit the home and land. So there is always a helper in the home. For older siblings and their families, there is a social system of younger women being obligated to help when circumstances arise such as parties, new babies, etc... to go over and help the relative. So, to have someone around to share the load is normal, and necessary. No one has ever batted an eye about us having someone to help with shopping, prep cooking, laundry, or cleaning. She also pays our bills and navigates property/neighbor issues. Most women in the US HAVE househelpers but do not realize it. They are called vacuum cleaners, butchers who grind their meat for them, clothes dryers, automatic bill pay, and sidewalks to keep most of the mud out of the house. We have none of those.

A few years back, a friend of mine told me about her husband making a snide remark about her being more like the Proverbs 31 woman. He thought she didn't do enough, even though she took care of the kids, did house work and took care of the home in many other ways. He thought she should be more like the proverbial woman and do more outside the home to make money etc.

Pul-eeze.... but then again, I don't know the whole story either.

I told her if he's that intent on you becoming more like this Prov. 31 woman, she better go back and read it thoroughly! She thought I was nuts until I said the woman in the Bible had maidservants! She did all she did because she had tremedous help with the cooking, cleaning, and the watching over the kids if she needed to go haggle a deal for a field. All the sudden the Proverbs 31 woman idea was brilliant, so when she went to inform her husband she would be more than willing to become this woman along with the household help....he didn't find it to be a good idea any more, the subject was never brought up after that. Not to say aspiring to be this woman isn't a good thing, it just wasn't the proper tone to have set in this situation. Let's just pray and hope it doesn't and if it does, it sounds like you've got some amazing friends who will totally understand.

She is an amazing role model that's for sure!! But from a completely different culture with different social obligations than we have. Nevertheless, we can certainly learn a lot from her!

I think I'm finally caught back up. I see I'm doing poorly on the rations drop. Seems like I just never get here in time. But that's okay. I'll happily hold down the rear of the train. If there's a raiding party, I'll let you know.

It's an honor to be inclued in Millies list of Dis Dudes. I get the whole concept of worrying over meets. I'd be the same way. But I do agree on the value of Dis Friendships. We're a crazy lot, but lovable and I know many who will be lifelong pals.

I don't think it's from lack of knowledge, but more from missing a clue or 2 due to the busy-ness of life. Don't worry about it; it was really meant to be a fun source of diversion rather than a cut throat game, right?? (Shhhh, don't tell Tim or Cynthia, though)

Mine is apprehensive too, (good word, Glenn) but has gotten used to me telling him of maroo and all the drama in her world. By the way, if I ever get down to meet up with our friends in Lorena, we'll be sure to look you up
