Like Rapunzel, I have a dream!

I do for some reason picture this on Main Street...maybe even just the ballon man could hand us the right one!

This is what I was thinking you could do, it's not Mickey but at least you will be down Main Street. Congrats on your wonderful news and I really hope this all pans out. Of course you will have to come back on here and tell us all how it went....posting pictures or possibly a video of the event would be very nice too ;).

First of all congrats. I think your idea is awesome. However, I'm not sure that Disney will be able to make this happen on Main Street unless you were to do it before park opening, which would probably be expensive. Disney has a policy of not having two characters near each other. Since Mickey's meet and greet location is at the end of main street (I'm not sure if this could happen) unless Disney was willing to stop Mickey's meet and greet line for this, which is also likely to be expensive. Still, no problem in asking.

With that being said, I'm sure any balloon CM would be happy to make this happen for you for free. Just take your note from the doctor and hand it to them and explain. I bet that would be the highlight of their day.

Well, since you asked...yes, I think this is crazy. The idea of being the center of so much attention and drama makes my skin crawl.

Yes, way down deep inside I've got a dream. :goodvibes

DH and I are expecting our first child- it's early in my pregnancy, not due until August, and I have this crazy idea that I want to find out the gender of our baby on Main Street.

I have this vision- I would love to go to my doctor appt when it it time to find out the gender, have the doctor/ultrasound tech/whoever-it-is-that-tells-us put the gender in an envelope and seal it. DH and I will then be on our merry way to WDW- specifically MK- where we want to "buy a Mickey balloon" but can't decide between pink or blue. (side notes: We plan to order photopass to capture this. We plan to invite family/friends if they come I will make them "Team Mickey/Team Minnie" shirts.) We dream of giving our envelope to a CM who will tell Mickey which color to grab and he'll come out, grab the right color, and hand it to us to purchase.

Is this a crazy dream? yes. Do I think Disney is capable of helping us? Absolutely. I have time, why not try to contact someone and see if we can make it happen?

The reason I am posting is I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on who to contact to even attempt to make this happen?

I posted before and Cheshire Figment gave me the switchboard number (which I greatly appreciated!) and so far I've only been sent to voicemail for special events (who haven't called back) and to the florist (not so much what I'm looking for).

If you have any positive advice to give on how to get the ball rolling on this, or if you know of any contact, I'd be so grateful. This is absolutely a once-in-a-lifetime magical dream of mine so I am hoping not to get flamed. :( (My hormones may not be able to take it.)

Mods- I couldn't decide which board would be best for this; if you think you know of a better fit, I welcome the move.

This is INCREDIBLE! It's a once in a lifetime experience that would be so amazing to experience. and its very original which I like a lot. I have no idea who to call - but I believe in your dream! I think Mickey will be able to make this happen for you....You just have to believe :goodvibes

Make sure to post what happens!

Congratulations on the amazing news and I wish you the best of luck!

I don't see how they could do it with Mickey on Main Street. He's like the pied piper - where ever he is, there's a long line of kids waiting to see him. Also, I don't think Mickey will be able to read the envelope - limited vision and all. I think you'll have much better luck with the balloon vendor and you won't have to worry about a special set up in advance. Good luck and hope it turns out magical for you and your husband.

I honestly don't see this happening with Mickey in a public place. Folks who hire his character for wedding appearances pay big bucks for the few minutes. If they didn't charge for it, everyone would expect the same for their big news or special moment. Some cast member may be willing to help, but you could just have a personal moment with your husband and any family that happens to be there instead. Open the envelope in a special place in the park, take a few pictures and its done.

The whole big production happens in ads, not in reality.

I know that if this would really involve Mickey on Main Street that it would probably have to happen before park open, which would be awesome.

I have to say I truly appreciate those that see this as a DREAM and wish it to come true as I am doing.

I am asking if anyone has any other suggestions for a contact, I'd appreciate it. I had thought of the proposal/wedding team, I'll see if I can reach them through the switchboard tomorrow.

Honestly, if I got in contact with one Disney employee in the right office that loved the idea, I do believe it could happen...but finding that employee? is a challenge. that I'm willing to accept.

Now please, don't burst my Mickey ballon.

Sounds like a cute idea! Word of caution, you may need to wait later into your pregnancy for a gender scan to be 100%. My YDD took 2 scans to be certain. Good luck!!!

Also pregnant with our first - due in July! I admire your patience and hope you're able to get it worked out!! We'll want to know immediately! LOL

I had not heard. Congrats Brenna! :cool1:

Congrats to the OP as well!

I too would not have the patience. I had waited years just to become pregnant, so I had no deisre to wait any longer.

Don't blink. They'll be in college like mine.

If I were you, I would launch a social media call-out for George Kalogrids. He was just named president of Disney World and apparently is a great guy, very active in the parks and customer relations from what I'm hearing.

I would just start a "I want to talk to George" page, and try to make it blow up. I wouldn't however give away all the details of why I wanted him to call me, just I want to speak with him (as not to make it a giant public affair). I bet he could arrange Mickey to pop out of a door, hand you a balloon and snap a couple pics.

You never know....

You will want to have a price point in mind before speaking to someone so you don't get caught up in the moment. My guess is that it would run at least a few thousand dollars to arrange a private audience before park opening.

I'm sure that it is difficult waiting for your dream plan to progress. But as far as I know Special Events and Disney Weddings are the only avenues to pursue.

But take heart- this is Disney we're talking about. Throw enough money at it and you'll get what you want. But renting out characters and arranging pre-opening meets and photographers and CMs with balloons is going to cost you your kid's first year university tuition. Just sayin....

This, exactly.

I like the idea of asking the balloon CM to do it. It's just as magical, they'd probably be happy to do it and you still get to find out on Main Street (for free.)

Congratulations.

Awww OP that sound so sweet! It would be wonderful if you can make that happen.

If you can't find the proper person to arrange this for you perhaps you could talk to a photopass photographer on Main Street to follow you to a Balloon person & explain what you want? You would be missing Mickey on this one.

Or

Purchase 2 balloons, pink & blue, and take them to the Mickey M&G area. Explain to the CM what you want to do, give them the envelope & balloon, and have Mickey hand you the right one?!

A few months ago I saw a video from AoA Resort where a Military family surprised the kids with Dad arriving. The CM's at the Resort put on a flash mob & at the end the Dad came out. Perhaps you could talk to the resort & see if there is anything they can think of?

I know if anyone can fulfill your dream, its Disney!pixiedust:

Oh & CONGRATS!!!!

Instead of having Mickey do it, have you considered asking the Mayor of Main Street? He's one of the streetmosphere characters who is out there in the morning, and their entire schtick is to meet & greet with people and take photos and wish people happy birthday and whatever.

I'll bet if you went at RD and tracked down the Mayor or one of the Ladies of Main Street, they'd be thrilled to help you do this. I could see the Mayor turning it into a little ceremonial thing with who knows what else? The Dapper Dans are out in the morning, the band is out ... you never know what could happen on the spur of the moment. And even if it's just the Mayor himself, he will certainly make a big to-do about it -- particularly if you've got a bunch of in-laws and other family standing around waiting for the "official announcement".

I say go for the Mayor!

:earsboy:

The thing I would change about your plan is who gives you the balloon. I think having your husband look in envelope and give the balloon to you would be way more special and personal. Just a thought.

I wasn't going to say anything at all, but now that I see that a social media call-out is being suggested, may I just very kindly suggest that you wait until you are out of your first trimester to launch anything big? As a woman who has been through miscarriage and a late-term loss at 22 weeks, nothing is more painful then "untelling" people.

I wish the OP the very best and hope that your dream comes true.

ITA. I think it would be sweet to find out the gender in the MK, but no reason to involve anyone else. It would be just as special to open the envelope together in private somewhere and then go celebrate. Frankly, I think the scenario in your head would be disappointing IRL.
