Like a Bad Meal (V Keeps Coming Back) - THE END! 1/12/09

I am totally caught up. I know shame on me.

I am loving all of the FOCKER accounts. I wish could have come. I am really hoping we can have our own little meet over Thanksgiving. :thumbsup2

Your girls weekend sounds awesome!! Can I ask why the girls didn't stay with you at BWV'? Yea to you for the upgrade!

btw- I booked Citrico for my DH and I to celebrat our 10 anniversary. Should I have booked Narcoosee instead?

They are both good, although we've been to Narcoossees more recently, and the lobster is amazing! Happy anniversary. :goodvibes

Sounds like a fantastic weekend of relaxing with friends.
BTW running in WDW....what were you thinking girl???
Did you remember the dumbells??:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Better yet – my room was on the top floor, 2 doors from the elevator!

NO "Shining" Hallway!! Woohoo!!

bacchanalian

$10 word V!!!

Meg’s and my customary stop at the sake bar in Japan

Missy tried some sake while I was emptying my wallet in Mitsukoshi and she brought me a "marinated" plum from one of the wines.

Oh. MY.

Strong. Yet delicious. I'm intrigued.
I would also love to try a non-"marinated" Japanese plum, though I've yet to find them anywhere.

There was a Gators game coming on that I very much wanted to see, as did two others in our group.

Saw highlights from that game.
Thought of you.
Said to BF, "Oh, V will be pleased."
BF said to me, "Who's V?"
LOL

I came home feeling much restored, in good health and satisfied with the amount of work I’d accomplished. Yay me!

I need to live closer to the World.
I NEED weekends like this!

Great update chiquita!!!

:flower3:

Okay. So I’ve finally – FINALLY! – made it to the day of Fockerfest 2008. Only, we’re still not there yet. This was one jam-packed day, so it’ll still be a bit before I get to the actual Fest. Sorry.

Before I get into the details, let’s talk a little about the title of this installment. With all the time LL, T and I spent together this trip, I learned something about how much more efficient, supportive and effective we parents can be when we act as a team. I’d seen it first at the SSR pool, then at Turf Club, and for sure at AK. But this MK day was the crowning glory of the Village theory. I’ll explain further as I tell the story of this day, but trust V… it really does take a Village. A Focker Village. ;)

This was one of the few days of the trip in which we actually stuck to The Plan. Mostly. The Plan called for rope drop at the MK with T and LL, and Jo was a definite maybe.

Just as The Plan dictated, I was at the Springs bus stop at the appointed time. Waiting for the MK bus. At some point, either I checked in with T and LL or they checked in with me, but everyone else was running a teensy bit late.

HA!

Let it be duly noted that I was not late that day!

And, to be fair, neither were T or LL in the end. What I was, was really early.

HA!

Let it be duly noted that I was early that day!

Anyway, T made it on a MK bus and Leo and I jumped on when it got to the Springs stop. LL missed that one, but was following closely behind in the next bus.

Which was just fine. Because we had plenty of time. Plenty. That may well have been the longest rope drop wait I’ve ever experienced. LY T!

2793775801_0b7e9fffea.jpg

Waiting…
2800403058_b1d1391a06.jpg

Waiting…
2794625284_82570ec45c.jpg

Still waiting.

Take a good look at Waldo’s face in that last one… he’d had it with the rope-drop-wait. I know because he and I may have shared an editorial comment or two about being there so dang early. LY T!

Heh heh.

Once the rope dropped, we all headed in, ready to begin The Plan. S. PLANS. That’s right, pluralize that Plan. Supersize it. Because we had a bunch of younguns and they had ideas. T’s plan called for Dumbo first. Leo’s not a fan of that one, so my Plan called for Buzz first, then meeting up with T at the next stop – Small World, I think? I’m not sure what LL’s Plan was, but I’m betting Michael had some input there, too.

But here’s where things get interesting – the kids wanted to stick together. So much so, they worked through it without little or no prompting from us grown-ups. We just made sure everyone was okay with changes in the Plan. And it didn’t take long at all for The Plans to get tossed out the window as we all decided to ride Peter Pan first.

Village baybee! :thumbsup2

Walking down Main St., we ran into Jo and family on their way to Buzz. I’m sorry we didn’t get any rides in with you guys!

I’m not sure just why we were hanging around Peter Pan long enough to take a bunch of pictures, but I got all these:

2800403420_2c0fea4f0a.jpg

Wait a sec… I’m IN that last one! Apparently we dilly-dallied outside Peter Pan so long, a bunch of us got pictures!

The Village may be effective, but its sometimes slow.

Anyway, we quickly discovered that the kids have to be 7 to ride alone, so I wound up in a ship with all three. Don’t worry – we had fun flying together, and other Villagers would get their turns later. ;)

2793779603_849d557f44.jpg

See?!

2793780621_3eee894446.jpg

That’s on Small World. Note the look on my buddy Michael’s face. You may at first think he looks as joyous as his fellow passengers about this little drift through dollyland (NODollywood). But. You’d be wrong. Michael made it abundantly clear that he found Small World “LAME!” Exclamation point.

Hee hee, I don’t know if LL ever knew, but I agreed. With Michael. LAME! Exclamation point. And he and I may have had a few more disparaging remarks about the boat ride through hell. But you know what? We rode it anyway. To enjoy every minute with our long-distance friends.

Village baybee! :goodvibes

Also, because T had virtually promised we’d find ourselves a Dream if we rode the stupid ride. Heh heh. And…

She was RIGHT!

2794632880_d804de5aa1.jpg

Sure enough, just like it read in T’s Plan, the Dream Squad was waiting for us as we walked out of IASW. Sure, it wasn’t a lifetime pass, nor yet a DVC membership. But it wasn’t a certificate either, so Leo and I were satisfied.

Next up was Pooh and then the Teacups. Remember how much Leo enjoyed the Teacups our first day of this trip?

No, really – do you remember? The first day? I know, it’s been a while. Trust V – he liked it.

So he was only too happy to do it again, with friends. I needed a visit to the loo, so LL took on the job of Master Spinner with Michael, Maddie and Leo.

2793786143_bcb73cd7a0.jpg

Let’s zoom in on that one, shall we?

3047961837_bb3df5bff3.jpg

Sorry LL – Leo said you span “too fast for his head to keep up!” :rotfl:

Okay, after the cups, we played a round on BUZZ LIGHTYEAR! And I beat the pants off Leo. As usual. I’m mean like that.

The rest of the gang wanted to do Carrousel of Progress, but Leo was feeling the need for speed. He and I headed off to the Barnstormer, then met back up with the group for a round on the People Mover. T took her turn as chaperone (okay, it’s possible that LL, Tony and I may have jumped into a car and left T with the kids.)

And here’s what was so great about our group: after the ride, T made the call. Without hesitation and without fear of anyone getting all weird about it, she explained that while her ride was enjoyable, the natives were getting restless and it might be time to break up the youngest villagers for a while.

T? I loved you more than ever for saying that! You were 100% correct and I’m so glad we did it. They definitely needed a break in the action before someone got ugly.

Village baybee! :grouphug:

Leo and I decided to hit Pirates before going back to the hotel, and then had to stop for a Dole Whip.

2793796945_16e4110126.jpg

Technically, it was lunch time, but I really wanted to GET OUT of the MK for lunch, so I figured the Dole Whip would buy us another 20 minutes before blood sugar levels came crashing down to rock bottom. It worked and we went straight to Artist’s Palette when we got back to SSR. I’m pretty sure I had the chicken & artichoke flatbread that time, and it was wonderful!

Did you notice anything from the pictures this day? No rain.

NO RAIN!!!!

It was sunny and hot, and the pool beckoned. As Leo took all eternity getting himself pool-ready, I took a few snapshots of the little things in my SSR Studio that I love so much.

2794622490_63f67863f5.jpg

Why on earth doesn’t EVERY single room in WDW have a coat rack?! This thing is a godsend. Do you see the volume of crap I’ve got stored there? That’s approximately 15 things that would otherwise be tossed about the room. I actually love my hooks so much that I’m hesitant to stay in any rooms that don’t have them.

I also really love this:

2794620752_a6b3ce646e.jpg

In the field of marketing, it’s widely known that women can be sold pretty much anything if it comes is a tiny little package.

Tiny little sink. Tiny little dish soap and tiny little sponge. What’s not to love?

Anyway. We did eventually get to the main pool, where we found T’s family and enjoyed some time swimming with them…

2812094448_9071fd2f9b.jpg
2818063137_a5c10606c8.jpg

… before heading to the Grandstand pool, where we found Michael and Tony. I swear I wasn’t stalking – we just all had the same ideas! And it was a really nice way to spend the afternoon.

It was also the finishing touch on an already tiring day. I could see the exhaustion on Leo’s face and knew he had to have a nap before the big party that night. Frankly, so did I. I also knew we didn’t have a lot of time, once showers and dressing for dinner got figured in.

What I’m saying is, I pretty much knew what would happen, but we took the naps anyway. :rolleyes1

Continued in next post...

I wasn’t early.

In fact, I was pretty darned late. For the big show. And I was genuinely sorry about that, because we’d planned for the Fockers to meet in the American Pavilion for a little socializing before dinner at Biergarten. I missed that whole part. But honestly, the naps were worth it. You would not have wanted us at dinner without them. Trust V.

So I was already running lateish by the time Leo and I woke up, showered and changed. The monsoon we drove through to get to the Beach Club didn’t help matter any, either. It was scary out there on the WDW roadways; lighting was flashing, thunder was booming and the rain was so heavy I couldn’t see more than 10 feet ahead. But I’ll say this: WDW knows how to build a Florida-worthy road. I’ve become very accustomed to watching for and dealing with standing water in my years as a Floridian. You just have to in order to get anywhere in summer.

Not so at WDW. I encountered NO pooling or street flooding at all between SSR and the BC. Where I was illegallyish valet parking my vehicle. But once in the BC lobby, there was nowhere to go. No way was I walking around in that torrential downpour to get to EP. So I texted CE to let someone know where I was and called LL to find that she was down the hall at the Yacht Club. She, Tony and Michael made their way down to the BC, where we all donned ponchos, rain jackets, stroller covers and umbrellas and set out for Biergarten.

Things did calm down, and we didn’t get very wet. But we were late. Sorry – again. :flower3:

By the time we walked up, most everyone was there and it was a crazy mess of Fockers hugging, introducing spouses and children and passing gifts around. Think mosh pit, only friendlier and minus the crowd surfing. We’re saving that for next year. ;)

It was great to meet the folks I hadn’t before and equally great to see familiar faces. The time flew by and before I knew it, they were calling us inside. Woo hoo! FockerFest had begun!!!

Based on several previous visits, I knew the Biergarten layout – tables of 8 – and had prepared a seating chart based on variables like children of similar ages, people who chatted together often, shared interests… we were totally prepared to make things as easy on the kind Biergarten folks as possible.

Only. They tried their hardest to do the same for us. By rearranging things to make several tables of 10.

:headache:

So much for preparation! It took some time, but we did figure out how to get everyone in there without breaking up families. Phew! I was more than ready for a beer after all that hard work!

What can I say about dinner? It was truly amazing. So much more fun than I’d even imagined it would be, and believe me – I’d imagined an awful lot of F-U-N. I had a great time getting to know Mel and her DH NotBob, Angela and her DH Mitch, and hanging with Z, Yani and Kat again. Leo loved being the only child at our table.

As usual, I looooved the food, especially the Wiener Salad.

Let’s talk about the Wiener Salad for a moment. I first heard of it in Mel Happyhaunt’s TR years ago. The woman raved about the stuff. So, when I chanced to eat a meal at Biergarten not long after, I had to try the stuff. By golly, Mel was right! It was like ambrosia! Sliced hot dogs drenched in vinegar and oil and rolling around side-by-side with onions and sauerkraut. Love that stuff.

And I’ve broadcasted that love far and wide on the DIS. Over the year or so we spent planning this crazy gathering, the Wiener Salad took center stage as we referred to our upcoming dinner as Wienerthon, Wienerpalooza, and various other incantations. It’s hard not to have fun with a name like Wiener Salad. So say the Fockers. Need I say more?!

Actually, though, the real name is Wurst Slaad. And quite a few of my Focker friends who sampled the dish thought it aptly named. Nope, they didn’t like it. Not one bit.

~sigh~

Still, I made sure every participant left that night with a pin commemorating the occasion. It read “I ATE THE WIENER SALAD! FockerFest 2008” Heh heh.

I know I had a fantastic time that night, and I think the pictures show that everyone else did, too…

For sure, we had an absolute blast. But the kids… well, they just may have had even more fun than the adults!

And these were just my pictures – if you haven’t read the other Focker renditions of this night, you really should – there are LOADS more stories and images to enjoy!

After dinner, we headed outside for some group shots:

Have I mentioned that we had fun?! Fockers… THANK YOU for making that night such a stupendous success. We’ve all had our share of drama in life on on the DIS, but we came together as only a group of people who care about each other very much can and left it all behind for that night. It was amazing and I’m so glad to have been a part of it! :grouphug:

And let me also acknowledge the Biergarten staff. They took such incredibly good care of us. Despite our meandering between tables, despite our children playing in the walkways, despite the gazillion tabs, multiple drink orders, and special requests, every single server and host was friendly, understanding and on top of things. I took the time to send a note of appreciation to the manager and staff there, because they really were spectacular.

We started going our separate ways after the photo shoot. I know some did some rides, and others went back to their rooms. LL, Tony, T, Andy and I had a date with Martha’s Vineyard at the Beach Club. Maddie, Michael and Leo happily went to play the night away at the BC’s kids’ club, and Evan went back to SSR with Waldo and T’s mom.

We spent a lovely evening talking and I, for one, relished that. With my busy life, I have very few chances to enjoy the company of other adults with whom I share so many views, laughs and tears. That night, we started talking about mundane funny stuff and wound up talking about some pretty heavy funny stuff. As good friends do and should. :goodvibes

But the end had to come and the kids needed to get to sleep. It was time to part; T and LL were both leaving the next day, so this was our final parting of the trip.

Which brings me to this cautionary warning: be careful making imaginary Internet friends on the DIS. Know that they sometimes become Real. And when they do, the goodbyes are all the more difficult.

The tears came hot and freely as we hugged and goodbyed in the BC lobby. I was a mess, but a happy mess, as I handed my ticket to the valet and asked for my car.

The tears kept coming as I drove Leo and I back to SSR. Tears for friends I’ve known and knew I’ll see again. Tears for new friendships I knew I’d be sure to nurture when we all got back home. Tears for my sweet boy, who shed his own tears for the friends he’d miss the next time we went to WDW without them. My heart was as full as my belly and I was more than thankful for such an amazingly terrific night.

It takes a Focker Village. Baybee. :grouphug:

Next: our last day. No, really.

Am I first:confused: :cool1:

V, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your version of Fockerfest.

My only complaint, next time can we make sure the humidity isn't so bad so my hair doesn't look like it does in the pictures above:sad2: Wither that, or next time I wear a hat;)

Ok, now I'm a mess.:sad1: I can't even quote. I'll be back later. I'm in need of a hanky....

I'm sad too, and I wasn't even there (except as a flat). It makes me very sad that I missed it! :sad1:

After reading all that i dont have much to say. im a little teary and choked up and I wasnt even there.:goodvibes
Sounds like a magnificent time with great people all around. Wish I was there. One of these days our paths will cross again V. THey have to with the amount of times you visit:rotfl2:
If I dont "see" ya have an amazing Thanksgiving in the WORLD:flower3:

Yep you have managed to have not a dry eyed focker in this report!

You did forget how me, Z, Tani, Met & NotBob showed up randomly at BC that night!

I love reading everyone's FockerFest reports.

I'm also teary and choked up and wasn't there and don't "know" any of you! But isn't the DIS just great for creating friendships? I am so glad I started posting here and have been amazed at the great friends I've made already and I'm sure I'll continue to make. :goodvibes

Oh... weiner salad?? :scared:

Love your perspective on the Frocker fest, and it is fun to read about places you mention, that I now know.

You had to pass me on the Boardwalk when you left Epcot after your were there for adults Food and Wine Fest. I was sitting on the very first table outside when you leave Epcot and walk towards the ESPN Club. I know I was sitting there at 8:00 p.m. because my dh was ordering pizza at the Spoodles window. My dd was going back and forth sitting with me and standing with him. I am terrible at looking at people, but I remember I had my hoodie on, because there was a cool breeze coming across the lake. We finally got our pizza at 9:00 and everyone walking by, was asking if they could have some. Lots of really drunk people. LOL.

Small world. We were staying at the BC, floor 4, 3 doors away from the elevator.

Awwwwww... what an amazing day for all of you! Sniff... sniff... I really wish I could have been there in person and not just as a Flat. FockerFest '08 was a huge success (despite the appearance of a little wind and rain ;) ) and I'm sure future gatherings will be just as special. You can see that these are life-long friendships you all are building. The Focker kids are so lucky to have such wonderful parents. :grouphug: Just remember that I want to be invited to any future weddings!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for sharing your take on the festivities, V!
Take care,
Michelle
