Lightweight Princess Dress Suggestions??

Suprising DD5 with her first Disney trip next month. Can someone suggest the best princess dress (character,type) that might hold up through a day at MK, but not overheat DD? I know once DD puts the dress on, it may be hard to get it off of her even if the temp is pretty hot.

We don't have BBB scheduled and I plan to buy the dress before we head down there. The different types of dresses I've seen online range from thicker material, high quality to cheaper, thin material (seen at Target, Walmart), etc. TIA!

I just got my DD a Sleeping Beauty dress from www.littledressupshop.com. It arrived last week and is fantastic. The material is really light but machine washable. It is also very comfortable on her and she is very sensitive to different fabrics. She loves it and it they are really reasonable. I paid $27 including tax and there was no shipping costs. We have a store locally that sells the same style that is sold at the above link. We have the Rapunzel one and it is the lightest most comfortable costume my daughter owns. I love that it is machine washable. Our local store sells all of this variety for $27 each so I think the Rapunzel dress on that site is overpriced, but otherwise they are pretty reasonable.

What's the name of the store? I never considered Rapunzel, but I will have to look into that. I was considering a Tiana or Ariel dress because those seem to be the ones that normally are sleaveless or spaghetti strap.

The store near me is called Princess of Tides. I checked and they do have all the dresses available for purchase on their website, but I think they are $30 on-line. If you have any questions about sizing, etc. you could call the store. The owner's name is Kerry. She is very nice.

My dd7 is not into dressing up in her princess dresses anymore and would probably not tolerate wearing one all day in the humidity/wet from water rides, etc. However, she will be wearing a blue tutu (shorts underneath) with a Cinderella tank top (Cinderella Mickey ears) on the front to our CRT breakfast next month. We are also bringing a pink tutu and a Sleeping Beauty tank top as well for dinner at the princess castle at Epcot. This way if she is annoyed at the tutu it can easily come off and packed away.

We purchased an absolutely beautiful princess halterdress a few years ago and she wore it to the CRT breakfast. She actually liked her dress better because it was different.

I am having the same kind of trouble as OP. DD will be turning 2 while at WDW and that will be an adventure in itself so I want to be sure she will be as comfortable as possible while we are there. I was originally thinking of having her wear tutus that represent a different character like you, but I'm still unsure. I would have to make them because DL only has sizes for bigger/older girls and DD is VERY petite. That isn't a problem, but I would like to see if anyone has any other options. Has anyone had their DD wear the original Disney dresses and if you have how did your daughters handle the heat in it? BTW I will be going in July

As my DD over heats easily I decided to make Disney inspired tutus. She loves them! I made: snow white, queen of hearts, alice, tinker bell, ariel. She will pair them up with shirts that are of the same theme though she has a sundress that looks great with a tutu. She will be wearing the queen of hearts to the pirate league as it's close to "pirate" colors

Do you sew at all? I've done a couple of super-easy princess styled sundresses for my girls using a very basic pattern from YouCanMakeThis.com and a blog tutorial on how to princess them up. I use lightweight cotton so they are cool and very breathable, and my girls don't mind being in them all day.

I know OP thought that her daughter may not be coaxed out of the dress once she puts it on, but we just bring our princess dress to the park on the day(s) we need them for an ADR or BBB. The fit nicely in a ziplock bag and don't take up hardly any room once you squeeze all the air out of the bag.

We just put them on before lunch or our appt. and then we generally take a break back at the hotel shortly thereafter and she can change back into regular clothes.

We have two dresses from My Dress Up Trunk - they are made by Little Adventurers. We have Belle (yellow) and Rapunzel. DD wore the Belle one last year - she just wore a tank top and shorts underneath so we could take it of when she was done. Like others I put it in a ziplock.

This year she wore Rapunzel for the meet and greet only as it was very hot.

These are very comfortable and not scratchy, like the Disney brand ones.

I went on Esty and saw some really cute tutus (but expensive!). Any suggestions on how I can DIY a tutu? I guess I could probably find a vid on YouTube to help me. I like the idea of the tank n' tutu for the park and a dress for CRT. Our CRT ressie is late morning (9:55 on an EMH day). So maybe dress until after CRT and then changing into tank n' tutu? I guess I'm so overhelmed and so excited by all the ideas that I want to do everything!! LOL!!

My daughter is very fair skinned, and the princess dresses that you buy usually have 'scratchy' material around the arms, which after a while started to irritate to the point of red marks on her when we went to Princess's on Ice. I saw a post a while back from someone else on the boards about the fancier night dresses the Disney Store sells. I am going to get at least one for our September trip. While looking at it so I could get you the link, I am a bit bummed at my procrastination, because they HAD a beautiful white Cindy Wedding dress one that seems to no longer be here.. BOOOOO.. lol. But the Aurora one and the Tiana one are very pretty, and they will be lightweight and because it is sleepwear they won't be scratchy.

Yesss! Great minds think alike! This is exactly what I have in mind for DD. I plan on making a different tutu for each day that we are there (ten days). So far I have listed Snow White, Princess Aurora, Princess Jasmine, Princess Ariel, Tinkerbell, Minnie Mouse, Princess Tiana, Princess Belle, and I can't seem to remember the others. I've gathered a lot of ideas and I can't wait to actually get started on all of them. I'm going to have her wear the tutu and a shirt I will design to look like the princesses top of the dress of whatever princess she is wearing that day. Do you have any pictures of what your tutus look like? I'd love some tips.

I do sew, the sun dresses seem like a GREAT idea. I think I'll have her wear those at night when it gets a little colder. Thanks for the tip!

Tutus are sooo inexpensive to make but if bought they can be amazingly pricey so I understand where your coming from when you say they are expensive. The first time I tried making a tutu I was surprised at how easy it was and it lead me to have a passion for making them. Here's a link on how I learned how to make mine. I just saw on Walmart.com Disney princess dresses for 12.00 apiece. They only go up to 5t but they look cute and summery. Not machine washable though.
