Lightspeed ahead to a healthier you! April 2016 WISH challenge... all are welcome!

Goals Check-in:

Weight 191.1... 25% of my original goal of -4 pounds and 1.2 pounds away from my revised goal to just get into the 180's.

Step goal: over 12,000 for 9 of 23 days, so 39%

Pilates next one on one class is Tuesday then I go twice a week to group sessions, so on track.

Not ready to check in yet. My scale hated me this morning. I think it is the aftermath of my 28.000 steps yesterday and the wheat beer I had with dinner (all in my calorie goal, had plenty to use up yesterday with all those steps). So, my scale and I had a talk and we will ignore today's number and try again tomorrow...

@donac, thanks for posting a QOTD!!

My answer to QOTD:
My evil is actually something that should be a positive event: Being out with friends. I enjoy eating in company and I have problems with food sitting in front of me. When I meet friends we often meet up at one of our houses and we end up sitting around the dining room table chatting and the host or hostess will make sure to have a constant supply of goodies available on the table... Very difficult! Especially when I made the first mistake of accepting a glass of wine or a beer! Arg!! All my self control just goes out of the window!

Down 3 whole pounds for the week (yay!!!) but I'm holding off on officially checking in because I'm still on my pre-trip anti-inflammatory regime and I'm hoping the scale might bless me with a return to Onderland tomorrow morning or even at the last ditch 3 am preflight final check.

QOTD: my evil is anger and frustration and stress. My need to crunch when I'm annoyed still does me in on a regular basis.

So, recipe has been posted! You can find it here: Eggplant Mykonos

It is from a vegetarian cookbook that I have been using quite a lot recently called "Moosewood Restaurant Favorites". It really inspired me to eat less meat over the recent months! I can only highly recommend this cookbook! Here is a link to it on Amazon: Moosewood Restaurant Favorites

Pamela, You are down to the wire so let me make up a QOTD for this group.

This is a shot I took at DHS (or whatever they are called these days)

What are some of the evil things that set you off your plan for eating?
My evils are stress which triggers the sugar monster but also can trigger the need to chew and most often the chewy things that are easy to get to are not healthy choices, plus I keep eating longer than I should. Also travel where I'm off schedule and out of my normal habitat. WDW is better for this as I know what is there, but then again there are so many yummy choices...

I did some food testing this week with negative results. Had eggs and chicken and started to ache and my feet/ankles started to swell. Tried some unsweetened coconut milk because a cup was 2 points compared to 8 points for rice milk and it almost immediately caused bumps/breakouts to raise up on my face. So glad to know I'm still sensitive do I don't have either while on vacation.

What are some of the evil things that set you off your plan for eating?

Similar to others my evil things are stress, boredom/loneliness, sadness and then also on the other side when I do socialise with friends and there is food I am always a sucker for the yummy less healthy options. Also just the dark side in me that says just eat it even when I KNOW it will sabotage myself!

This is an off topic vent that I know my fellow Disney lovers will understand - it has been quite windy here today and earlier an unexpected gust came through the front door and blew 2 frames flying - one a big one with lots photos of our So Cal trip survived as it is not glass but Perspex but it knocked off our Splash Mountain souvenir frame from Disneyland :sad::sad: it is currently in 5 pieces - I have bought some super glue and am hoping to patch it together. I am devastated - seriously - got all teary.

Check in - 55.8% - of goal - Still need to keep working on getting more active.

I am all for the values. We have stayed every where from AKL to BLT to WL to Poly but the values are always there for us. We love POP right now.

QOTD the thing that sets me off is at a sit down meal with my family. I don't eat or drink as much as them so I always end up over eating. I am also the quiet one who doesn't cause trouble so I have to keep my mouth shut and that also sets me off.

Example My sister has 2 daughters and I have 2 sons. She has been very involved with her daughters weddings. She was upset that her dd2's future mil wanted to come to look at wedding dressed. Well DUH I wanted to go too since I am her Godmother but I wasn't invited. At least with ds1's fiance I was able to go with her. I wanted to scream at her to understand what the lady was going through but I kept my mouth shut. I wasn't able to go with ds2's finance but she sent me a picture as soon as she got it and I may be helping her with a bolero jacket for the church ceremony.

Right now my sister (my twin is on my %^&**( list). For our 60th birthday last year she got a reservation to Victoria and Albert. She invited our younger sister who turned 50 to go but not me. She also invited her husband's brother and his family but not me. I would have turned her down but it would have been nice to be asked.

Off to get ready. I am taking a class this afternoon that combines coloring and embroidery. It should be fun

Oh... it is really disappointing to be let down by someone you are close to, but I imagine when it is a sister and a TWIN it is extra hard. So sorry about this.

The coloring/embroidery thing sounds like FUN.... please tell me more about it later! And SUPER DUPER thank you for stepping in yesterday! I appreciate it so much!!! It was a whirlwind day and I was feeling badly that I didn't get a QOTD posted but I should have KNOWN this group would take care of each other!

Grrrr..... if you can't get it together, try calling WDW merchandising.... you may be able to order a new frame from them.

Hi friends! I'm back! It was a LOT of "butt time" in the car, but the last college choice was toured and now he can make an informed decision. I'll probably arrange to have a phone appointment with a few of the schools tomorrow or Tuesday and see if we can get ANY more money from them in the form of grants or scholarships. Otherwise it will just take them completely out of the running.

Anyhow, we drove 7:30 pm - 12:30 am Friday night (with a stop for gas and two stops for coffee) and arrived within an hour of the school. Stopped into the aforementioned "cheapo" hotel for a quick sleep and not-terrible-but-not-terrific free breakfast..... drove 50 minutes to the school and toured for 2 hours.

The men indulged me with a quick detour to the Almanzo Wilder Farm Museum (from the Little House book series) I am a HUUUUGGEEE fan of the books/author (it equals my Disney fandom level) and DD took me to see this particular home about two years ago on a Mother/Daughter trip, but we were LITERALLY 3 minutes away yesterday.... so I asked to stop for a few minutes. They were patient and understanding.... it was a nice stop.

Then we stopped a few more times for pictures on the way home.... upper NY state is a really pretty area (although I think it is a poor area economically).... there are a few windmill farms and there is a small Amish community, so I was delighted to see a few Amish buggies. Also stopped for a few groceries since there is a Market Basket along the trip home. By the time we got home and I put away the groceries and we had a quick light dinner (one slice of pizza each because we had lunch at 4pm!!), it was after 9pm and I was too tired to come on here! Sorry!!

SOOO many great progress reports here!!! I am SO impressed!! You guys are doing wonderful this month!!Keep those reports coming!! I'll get the Results post done tomorrow

Anyhow.... I am officially on April school vacation, but if you know me, you know that I have so many chores and projects planned in my mind this week! But I may take today as a relaxation day... I'll see how I feel. I do want to get my peas planted.... better late than never!

I'll BBL to chat!..............P

Yesterday was a very busy day. My son ran his first 5K. He finished at a time of 33:34. I not sure this is a good time or not but he did it. The pta at the school but it on and he has been training for it with a club at the school. Since it was with the pta I was helping and had 5,000 steps by 10:30.

My son also had baseball practice yesterday and it was cold outside. To keep warm I walked. By the time practice was over I had 13,000 steps but I stayed warm.

I also wasn't feeling good yesterday. It was nothing major just sick to my stomach on and off all day and really tired. I was thought I was feeling better last night so I went to our favorite restaurant for dinner. Before dinner I only had 2 slices of toast. I don't know why I thought getting a pulled pork sandwich was a good idea. I only ate a quarter of it before I started to feel sick again. This morning I am feeling better but I am going to take it easy today. My husband had this earlier this week and it didn't last long so I am hoping to be back on track with workouts tomorrow.

4 mile race done and I feel awesome! We finished at 44:34 which is like 11:09 mile pace, muc faster than I had anticipated. The course was mercifully pretty flat which was wonderful. I can't believe I got it in under 45 minutes. That was my "unrealistic" goal. Great way to start off my Sunday and the first race of 2016! I have a 5k next weekend that I'll be running alone. I'm hoping it's a breeze

Need to brag about my 8km run that I just finished (I think about 5 miles). The weather is totall crazy here, it changes between sun and snow constantly. So I went out wen it got sunny and ran the first 4km. Then it started to get dark and windy and I was just feeling great and decided to not head home, but continue. Well, I ended up in quite a snow storm! But it felt so fantastic! I had so much fun running! And when I stopped I felt so energised and not all drained!

Dinner will be some cheesy noodle dish, so I definitely can need the additional calories to spend! I have a visitor from out of Germany and promised to make her a German speciality for dinner and she chose this. It is one of my favourites, so I am happy with her choice and since we spent the morning sightseeing, I am up at 25.000 steps for the day...

Also a huge fan of "the Laura books". My maternal Grandmother was a third grade teacher and read them to her class each year, and had personal growing up stories that could be Laura stories. So cool that you got to stop in.

Spent most of yesterday working on my Sister's yard/garden. Both Sis and SIL are plant people and have a very complex garden set up, but with SIL's ALS no up keep has been possible, so about 8 friends were there working. We got about 3/4 of it all cleaned up and mulched, so it was a good day. But my butt sure hurts today! I'm way behind on my own garden work but fortunately it's raining so I'm going to go see Jungle Book instead! Then I'm going to have a nice big salad for lunch at Cali Pizza Kitchen and get groceries for the week at Whole Foods, since both are close to the theater.

After that it's pre-vacation household chores... Yah, the best kind!

Stress eating!

General laziness!

Copious amounts of desserts!

It's bad when I'm stressed out and feeling lazy... and there's a dessert nearby :P

I still have to grade some papers to give back tomorrow. It is the last class of the semester and then I have to give a final on Thursday and a final next Monday and I am done with the semester.

I just came home from another visit to my quilt shop. I saw a sewing machine there yesterday and I thought about it the entire ride home. I discussed with dh when I came home and he told me to buy it. I called the shop yesterday and told them I would be down to pick it up and pay for it today.

Dh is having a little bit of a hard time understanding why I wanted this machine. It is 67 years old. It is called a Singer Featherweight. It is a classic basic machine that folds into a little box for storage. This machine looks like it has hardly been touched. It has several attachments and the instruction book too.The entire insides are all metal and it runs like a dream. These are prize machines when they are in the condition it is in. I have always wanted one. I just sewed 10 more squares for ds1's wedding quilt.

Off to grade some papers.

Ok, after dinner we went for a walk and now I am at 30.000 steps for the day! And the amazing thing is that my legs feel tired, but not totally exhausted. I seem to have built up quite some stamina!

@pjlla I am a huge fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder, too! My mom picked up the first book as a Christmas present for me when I was 9 and I read the whole series and just loved it! And the I reread it when I was 16 and was able to read it in English. One thing that I find really amazing is that her books are actually considered to be of so much historic value as they are one of the few very accurate accounts of daily life at the frontier.

Wow, a Singer Featherweight... What a find! I'm also a quilter, currently working on a scrappy log cabin top for myself. I'll be sending this one out to be quilted, but when I was in Texas I discovered my SIL has a long arm machine, so I'm going to make up a few more tops then go down for another visit and quilting weekend.

I haven't read the books but loved to watch the TV show when I was younger.... showing my age again lol - randomly there was an interview on one of our morning programs yesterday with the woman who played Nellie - she was pretty funny. All this talk makes me think I should read these books - I could share them with my DD12. I really need a good escape at the moment and a good book can be good for that.

Oh, the TV show pales in comparison to the books! And yes, I think it would be a great thing to share with your 12 year old! I am sure your local library has them, so go out and get a copy of the first one! :-) and come back to report what you thought of them.

That is neat to have another quilter in the group. I machine quilt many of my lap quilts. Nothing fancy but a lot of stippling. I do hand quilt larger ones. I have a carpenter star that I am hand quilting now with perle cotton. This is going to my niece who got married in Dec. I am also making a signature quilt for ds1's wedding in AUg. Right now I am only making the squares and the guests will sign them instead of a guest book. I am using rainbow colors since the bride loves Wizard of Oz. I will put it together after the wedding. Then I have another niece who is my Goddaughter getting married in Sept that I want to make a quilt for and then ds2 is getting married next April so there is another quilt.

Well.... I guess if some of our friends here can go all "Gilmore Girls" on us last month, the rest of us can go all "Little House" on them!:rotfl:

My love for LIW is legendary here. I can actually REMEMBER receiving my first book in the series from a Scholastic Book order at school.... owning a book was a RARE treat.

I was an early reader, several grades ahead from Kindergarten on, so I think I probably devoured the entire series before 2nd or 3rd grade. And I have never looked back. It has been, without fail, my favorite book series since then. I've read the entire series more times than I can count and still own MOST of the ones I had in elementary school. I also own a set of "bathtub books".... a tattered set that I found for free somewhere and I use them when I want to read in the tub without risking ruining one of my other copies. I've also collected EVERY book I've ever seen/found by or about LIW. I even bought a copy of a cassette recording of a radio interview she did late in life..... hearing her actual VOICE gave me goosebumps.

My DD is named for LIW.... first and middle name..... but it was a nice coincidence that LIW and I shared a middle name!

I've had one lifelong dream regarding LIW and that is to visit ALL of the homesites.... but the main one was to visit her homesite in Mansfield, Missouri. I finally decided it was time to "fish or cut bait" and I planned a trip there for DD and I in 2006. IT WAS WONDERFUL! And so glad to have DD along. She isn't the SUPER FAN that I am, but she totally understands and appreciates my love of all things LIW and was totally supportive when I teared up at every corner around the homesite!! Also brought flowers to her grave when I was there..... it made a HUGE impression on me.... like visiting the grave of a long-lost loved one for the first time. Can't really explain it.

DSCF5379.JPG

( May 2006: BTW, I had lost about 20 of my eventual 86 pounds at this point.... so not my biggest, but no where near goal.)

The second LIW dream is still just a dream.... but I WILL make it happen. That will be a visit to the homesite in South Dakota (and seeing Mt. Rushmore while I'm out there!). I've planned this trip in my head SO MANY TIMES! Some day....

Anyhooo..... I loved the TV show when it first started (and I was pretty young), but the story line of the show went SO FAR AWRY of the actual story and got a little nutty..... so I NEVER watch it any more, other than the pilot, which followed the story in the book pretty nicely.

Anyhow.... that's my LIW story!

Went outside and sowed some peas.... better late than never! Also swept the back deck and raked out some flower beds, but the blackflies were getting bad, so I couldn't stay out any longer.

Not sure what we are having for dinner, but since it is 5:30 I guess I had better figure it out!:crazy2: It's kind of a "recovery" day here for us after so many hours in the car Friday and yesterday.

BB in the morning to chat!..............P
