Has anybody heard an anticipated release date for LR 2.0?
when i downloaded the beta( right when the beta was released) it said on the download page the beta was good till aug ( if you got it with an invitation, see one of the posts above for one) and the release was expected in june but someone said that is not longer the adobe stance so who knows:rotfl2:so i'd guess this summer, fall or winter (lol). the beta so far is working great so guessing sooner than later.

Well...here is my dilemma. I am heading to the world in 11 days :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I got a Canon 30D about 4 months ago and really have a pretty good handle on it. I really want to shoot my WDW trip in RAW, but I am wondering what to do about conversion. I have played around with LR 1.0 free trial, as well as the beta version of 2.0. I have full intention of purchasing the 2.0 version when it is released.

But...what do I do in the meantime? I could upload everything to the 2.0 beta version, but I do not want to run the risk of losing any pics in changing from beta to the new 2.0 version.

Should I just shoot in jpeg (really do not want to do this) or gamble with the beta version of LR?

I am unclear on why you think you would lose any pictures by using the beta??? Your not going to alter your RAW files even using the beta, and you then export them as jpegs, so even if there is some error in the beta, all you've lost is a little time.

I guess as long as I have everything backed up in a couple of spots I will be OK....another words...the worst that can happen is that I lose the edits I made to the pics when I make the move from beta to 2.0?

i just recently read they think the catalogs will transfer but don't guarantee it so i am downloading to my f drive, converting/editing in lightroom then saving as jpg back in to my f drive. you could also save as tiff files ( on your folders in your hard drive) which is what the finished edits are in lightroom then you wouldn't lose anything if your catalog wouldn't transfer, still being able to have the raw the partly finished ( tiff) and the fully edited jpg. Adobe doesn't recommend you use the beta as your only source for your photos which is why i am not downloading straight to lightroom.

Would you recommend downloading to Picassa then to LR for editing/conversion? That way there is still the original files in Picassa if need be?

If your worried, make a back up copy of your original RAW's, then do what ever you want in the beta, and then export them to JPEG's. The worst thing that could happen is the edited RAW's somehow become unusable, but you still have your originals, you might also lose any cataloging etc.

But the original RAW's and the JPEGs you exported will still be completely fine.

And that is worst case, I think that really all you would lose would be the catalog information.

I would say that if you are that worried about the beta causing problems, then just use the software that came with the Canon. I have not used it for my 30D, but I have heard that it works just fine. Probably not as slick as Lightroom, but hey, it works and it is free.

June was a date Scott Kelby put on his website - and was told to take it off again, because the team never said June. That would suggest it's not June. The beta expires on the 31st August. That would suggest it'll be released before then. That gives you a 2 month window - take a guess! Those who know can't say.

With regard to your pictures Alztybrn, try this for size....

Back up onto DVD BEFORE they reach the beta, just in case anything did go wrong. Whilst it *shouldn't* corrupt your original files, there is the vaguest of possibilities that it could delete them! So make sure you've got good backups.

By all means use the beta to process them, but a few suggestions on that one:
1. Even if the beta catalog will upgrade to the final release, I wouldn't. You could potentially introduce some nasty bugs, as the database structure has had a complete overhaul.

2. Don't expect the new localised corrections settings to appear the same way as in the beta, so if you use them, export before upgrading.

3. Use settings which are saved in XMP, and write to XMP before transferring the files from the beta catalog into a new final release catalog, by selecting all in Grid mode and hitting Ctrl-S/Cmd-S. Things that aren't included in XMP and are therefore best avoided for the minute - virtual copies, collections (use keywords instead), flags, history states.
