I'm not. When Apple dropped the price of Aperture to $79, the $300 price of Lightroom suddenly looked very much out of place.

Apple's price change was an attention-getter for new customers, so that means it had to get Adobe's attention, too. If you look at the new features in LR4, many of them are the same features that Aperture has had for a few versions. Adobe is definitely paying attention to the industry and its competitors.

My copy is downloaded, installed, and all catalogs have been upgraded. I'm ready to go. My only debate was whether to buy the upgrade now or wait until it is folded into their new subscription package (which I'm leaning towards getting).

The price wasn't much of a surprise. I think all of the one day sales were experiments to test different price sensitivities. It's been pretty heavily discounted for a while now.

Is this version a compelling upgrade? I'm not so sure. I'm still getting used to the new develop settings. I think I like them better. Are my pictures much better? I haven't done a side-by-side comparison yet, but at this point I'd say that it feels more like a small improvement rather than a big one. The rest of the improvements hit niches - soft proofing, mapping, books.

I do all of my printing out of PS. My printer has a really good plug-in that I like to use. With soft proofing in LR, maybe I should try printing from there. I guess I'll give it a go and do some side-by-side comparisons.

I downloaded the Luminous Landscape tutorial for LR4. I need to go through that pretty quick. I'm scheduled to teach a class on it in less than a month.

I had been using the Beta version for the last month or so, and found it to be easire for me to use and very able at handling me recover part from some of my dumber moments (at least partially). I downloaded and installed the final version today. It seems to be very close to the Beta version. We'll see.

I'm an Aperture user, and I can't help but notice that many of the improvements in LR4 are features that existed in Aperture (Maps, Books, Soft Proofing, etc.) Vendors go back & forth like this, though The last Aperture upgrade added many features that existed in LR, but also added more unique features. That's what bugs me about LR4. It's more of a catch-up release than a compelling new release.

As for printing, I still prefer to send off to MPix or some other place than mess with it myself. There's quite a bit of effort that goes into creating those profiles and the ink dries up if you don't use the printer frequently (at least mine did). For my infrequent printing needs, it's better to use a lab.
