Lightning McQueen/Mater not showing on DL app

I've been checking for four days on the DL app to see Lightning McQueen/Mater meet times. But they haven't shown up at all. Are they still available to meet at DCA?

Hmm...that is odd. I just checked the app and there are no scheduled meet and greets in Carsland at all. It doesn't show Red either. I had heard there were changes coming to the Carsland M&G, but I assumed there would still be something there in the mean time.

I did notice that when we were there last month (March 22-23). I looked at the app and thought the characters were not meeting just before we walked into Carsland. As we reached the end of the street, Mater was driving towards us.

I wonder if the app is not quite accurate lately. On the same trip, I couldn't find Moana on the app, but we were on Jungle Cruise and she was there heading backstage!

We saw Red and Mater every day the past 4 days. The Cozy Cone always had a guest. We did not see Lightning though.

Maybe it has something to do with the way they rotate McQueen and Mater in and out fairly frequently? When we were there last month we stood in line for McQueen twice and ended up with Mater. The last night we were there my 4 year old was in tears and I went to ask the attendant CM about McQueen coming back - he told me they rotate them through all day from open to close. According to the attendant they have to rotate out frequently because McQueen needs to get fingerprints buffed out (apparently he obsesses over his appearance) and Mater needs a couple quarts of oil every 20 minutes .

That is what I had heard, that Red replaced Lightning. Red used to M&G off to the side. I've also heard that they will do a M&G with one of the new cars after the movie debuts this summer.

Interesting they said Mater needs more oil. He NEVER leaks oil (Cars 2).

The "roaming" characters (e.g. Moana, Gaston, Merida) do not appear on the app, and they do not sign autograph books. Perhaps, because the Cars characters also do not sign, they don't appear? But that would mean that Nick and Judy (who also do not sign) wouldn't appear, either, and they do.

One of the biggest surprises on our recent visit is how INVISIBLE McQueen is in Carsland. We were in Carsland multiple times over 4-days recently You really only see McQueen in RSR. Saw Mater, Red & DJ multiple times.
I love seeing DJ - but really? This is like coming to the MK & Mickey's not there. Need to consider turning one of those Radiator Springs shops into a permanent McQueen & Sally photo op.

He used to be there in front of the cozy cones and alternate with Mater every 20 minutes or so as someone said. Not sure why the change recently. Maybe he's being refurbished. Or maybe they are making changes because of the new movie. It's not like they need to find someone who fits the costume.

Ah ha! Perhaps they really did borrow the DCA car for the tour. It is rumored that one or both of those other two cars could be coming to the M&G this summer. That would be fun. We might go see the movie before our trip, but that's still up in the air. It comes out the day before we leave.
