OK so what do you call them? Lightening Bugs or Fire Fly's?

I have always called them Lightening Bugs.

Lightning Bugs...and there are millions of them out tonight.

We call them lightining bugs.

We were just chasing them earlier this evening...so much fun!

I always called them lightening bugs as a kid, but tonight DD and DS were out collecting and I was calling them fireflies. HMMM...

No option for both. We call them both of those names.

Lightening Bugs even though I have never seen one.

No lightening bugs in TX? My DH was wondering tonight if they are everywhere in the US or not. Interesting...

I read somewhere that the males fly in the air and the females lay on the ground. The flashing is their way of attracting each other.

Probably more info then you wanted to know, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I can't imagine summer without lightening bugs! Ya know it never even occurred to me that someone may not have ever seen one.

We have them here in north central Texas.

I just call them "light bugs", but I also know them as "lightning bugs" and "fireflies".

We call them lightening bugs. My boys love to catch them at dusk. The little guy is not always gentle though. We need to work on that.

I finally saw two fire flies here in Houston a few weeks ago. When we were kids they were everywhere!

Yeah...my 5 y/o DD decided that her lightening bug "needed some water" tonight and came back with the bug floating in about 2 inches of water.

I remember smearing them on the sidewalk as a kid to make the sidewalk glow. Sorry PETA.

Whether they are Fire Flies or Lightning bugs, there must be over 1,000 in my back yard.

I have always called them lightning bugs, and so has my husband. But my 7 year old daughter insists on calling them fireflys. :confused3

In public, we (dh, me, and the 2 kids) call them lightning bugs, but at home we call them butt-light bugs.

We used to take off the "lights" and make rings.

I call them lightening bugs also.

I grew up in the country and we had them there. I live in the city and we have them here. I also thought that they were everywhere.
