Light appetite at signature restaurants -- is that a problem?

My 3/yo son and I have a trip planned for September and will not be on the dining plan. I have quite a few character meals planned but would also like to have dinner at Narcoossee's and California Grill. I looked over the menus and would be quite satisfied with an appetizer/soup/salad combo at both places -- no way could I eat an entire entree. My son would be happy with pretty much anything off the kids' menu.

My question is: is it bad form not to go the whole nine yards at the "fancy" places? Will I get the stink eye from my server? Oh, and what's the general feeling about bringing small (usually well-behaved) kids along?

Thanks!

As long as your child is well behaved, you will be fine. Many families dine at these places and the kids are always so good.

We pay OOP and I often get 2 appetizers for my meal, especially at Ca Grill where the entrees have always been disappointing.

That is absolutely fine. I do that a lot, especially at the upscale restaurants. I love some of the apps but can't do an app and an entree, so many times I will do an app and a salad.

My favorite dish at FF is the mussels so I usually do a salad with that. I've also done the salad and soup or salad and flatbread pizza at JIKO.

My dd started going to WDW with me alone when she was 4 and she was always well behaved in the restaurants. As a matter a fact she learned to "expand her horizons" as far as her food tastes were concerned when we started to do that.:lmao: She discovered salad at JIKO  (Boy was I upset about that LOL...not!!)

We've gone to Blue Zoo, YSH and AP which I pretty much had gotten appetizers and salads and I'd sneak in a little dessert every now and then.;)

Now that she's gotten older, she'll split an entree with me once in a while, so we both can expand our palette horizons! Sometimes she eats more than me!:rotfl:

I've done that before too, and it's no problem. It's what I ended up doing at my last Jiko meal.
