Need some brain storming.

My FIL is now living in a skilled nursing facility full time. Last year he purchased one of those lift chairs that has a remote and raises up to make getting out of the chair easier. We are cleaning out his house and have been donating his belongings. Thoughts on a 501c3 that could make use of this?

Let me know

Is the chair in Illinois or other state? I work with a nonprofit that helps folks and supports research on fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, a very rare condition that causes excess bone to grow, locking joints. There are only about 700 people known with the condition.

When my father in law went into a nursing home full-time, he was able to bring his lift chair with him. It replaced the nursing home chair that was next to his bed. It was a bit of a tight squeeze but made him feel more at home having his own chair. When he passed, we asked the nursing home to pass it on to another patient.

My FIL is at a veterans nursing home. He can have a personal chair but not fabric covered in case of mess. If he makes some progress we will order him a vinyl covered chair. He is non ambulatory so he has no current need- I'm sure the staff would love finding him on the floor because he was playing with the remote. :) I can see him getting confused thinking he was turning up the volume of the tv, as he is ratcheting himself up in the air.

The chair in his house is fabric and would not be allowed at his facility.

That makes sense.
Best of luck to your family.
