I had Chrissy, and Dawn and her friends -- but I didn't have the runway that Dawn modelled on.

Definitely the Bicenntenial! I remember Dawn dolls and baby Chrissy, she has auburn hair that would grow when you pressed a button on her neck. Big Wheels and Green Machines. I remember bell bottoms the FIRST time around. Punk rock and disco.

Class of 77 here. Let me see I remember bell bottom hip huggers, mood rings, beads instead of a door at my first apartment and Summerfest before it became huge.

pet rocks were "in".

and Rhoda Morgenstern had the beads instead of a door in "Mary Tyler Moore", didn't she?

Oh, yeah! Earth shoes and Candies. I loved both of them. And Dr. Scholls. Cotton gauze shirts were a big thing then...and very comfortable! Yup...platform shoes here also. LOL! I remember making fondu and baked alaska in Home Ec. Not together, of course. ;) I want to go back to my freshman year of high school and change A LOT! ;) :faint:

LOL! Typing class!! LOL! I remember that. We had half the semester on a manual typewriter and the other half of the semester on an IBM Selectric. The hottest thing to type on at the time. LOLOLOL!

Class of '78 here. Lemon Up shampoo, Love's Baby Soft perfume, Gee Your Hair Smells Terrific shampoo, Long & Silky and Short and Sassy shampoos, Gloria Vanderbilt, Sasson and Sergio Valente designer jeans that looked like they were painted on!

Jesus Christ Super Star, (the movie) Jaws, The Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, The Exorcist, Godspell.

Puca bead necklaces, tube tops, sparkly platform shoes, maxi coats and dresses & granny boots that laced up.

anyone remember that stuff, PSSSSSSST? you sprayed it into your hair to "freshen" it when you didn't have time to shampoo.

by the way, it's back.

I miss my Hollie Hobbie tshirt and my Love's Baby Soft tshirt I had in the 70's.:p I also kinda miss 8 tracks.

BR, I loved to play pong.:teeth: It's more of an 80's game though, I think.

I played Pong with the boy I dated my senior year in high school. that was 1977-78. I broke up with him during my freshman year in college.

by the 80's we were all playing asteroids, centipede and pacman.

Gloria Lemay, Vancouver BC:

YOU KNOW YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL OF THE 70'S IF:

1. You wore that rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest and down the other.
2. You made baby chocolate cakes in your Holly Hobbie Easy Bake Oven.
3. "Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind Hey Mickey!" was your first favorite pop song.
4. You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad. You wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffled shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture.
5. You wanted your first kiss to be at the roller rink.
6. You tried to make sure that no boys would grab the comb out of your back pocket and skate away at the roller rink.
7. Your hairstyle was ever described as having "wings".
8. You thought Shaun Cassidy actually wrote the songs "Da Do Run Run" and "Hey There Lonely Girl".
9. Strawberry Shortcake and her friends Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
10. You couldn't wait to be old enough to wear high-heeled shoes....the one's called "Yo Yo's" with the plastic heel with a hole through it!!
11. You carried a Muppets lunch box to school.
12. You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazard was your boyfriend.
13. You memorized every song on the "Annie" movie and know at least one person who immediately went out and got the Annie afro.
14. You had Star Wars action figures, too.
15. You thought unicorns were real.
16. It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
17. Light as a feather, stiff as a board.
18. You loved The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe so much you got the whole Chronicles of Narnia series for Christmas but never read the other books.
19. You crawled in a wardrobe somewhere and actually believed for a few seconds that you were on your way to Narnia.
20. You completely wore-out your Grease and Saturday Night Fever soundtrack albums.
21. You tried to do lots of arts and crafts things, like yarn & popsicle sticks or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom.
22. Shrinky-dinks! What was so appealing about these? I loved the Raggedy Anne & Andy shrinky dinks. I still remember how the oven smelled when they were "baking".
23. You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your miniature tape recorder up to the speaker.
24. You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Scholastic book orders your teacher would give you. Remember? The order catalogs looked like miniature newspapers.
25. You learned everything you needed to know about sex and your period from Judy Blume books.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a big fan of women born in the '70's. The books you loved and the rainbow shirts
produced a group that are the future of midwifery. My first homebirth was in l976.
Thought you might like to know how it was to be pregnant in the 70's.

You know you were pregnant in the 70's if:

1. You had to battle to keep caustic silver nitrate drops out of your baby's eyes to prevent gonnorheal infections that you didn't have.

2. Every maternity top had puff sleeves and frills. All the pants were Fortrel.

3. No one would ever wear a bikini if pregnant. Nothing form fitting either.

4. Your favourite books were "Birth Without Violence" by Frederic Leboyer and "Spiritual Midwifery" by Ina Mae.

5. Even though you weren't a hippy, you had to make friends with some hippies to lead you to a midwife.

6. Your midwife was a follower of Baba Hari Dass or Rajhneesh. You never knew her last name and you paid her cash ($75 per birth. . . or $50, if you can't afford it).

7. The idea of waterbirth, Dad's catching or birth on all 4's had never occurred to anyone yet.

8. there was mandatory separation of Mother and baby in hospital births for 24 hrs after birth for "observation" in the newborn nursery.

9. Episiotomy was standard practice for all hospital births unless you could find a British-trained doctor. Then, you'd get one anyway but at least he'd tell you in the office he wouldn't do one.

l0. The cesarean epidemic had started.

11. Women were told to toughen their nipples with toothbrushes and rough face cloths to prepare for breastfeeding (no one did it). No one knew about positioning for breastfeeding so we held our babies at the breast like we were feeding them a bottle (face up to the ceiling). Sore, cracked bleeding nipples were part of
life.

12. Millions of women had already given one child up for adoption.

13. The birth control pill was tested on us and that could be why a lot of your Moms have breast cancer now.

14. As children, we played on X ray machines in the shoe stores.

15. We loved our babies and created a grassroots movement of birth that the most powerful medico-legal-pharmaceutical groups in the world have not been able to quash. We are proud of the young women rising up to carry the torch for us.
You are the best of the best.

Love, Gloria Lemay, Vancouver BC

I wanted a Chrissy doll soooooooo bad and didn't get one!!

We got a colored TV about 1973. I remember going to an aunts house who had a colored TV to watch all the annual Christmas shows - A Charlie Browns Christmas, Rudolph and Grinch in color - wow!

Definately remember Earth Shoes. Big platform shoes - especially the sandels with cork platforms.

Goucho pants!!!!!

Elephant (flaired) pants. Jeans with patches with sayings on them. (early 70's) Farmers overalls were big in 1977+. Painter pants, especially white ones around 1976.
Remember putting your jeans in the dryer before going out to shrink them, they laying down on the floor to do them up!!!

Also remember about 1977 - the Urban Cowboy craze was in. I had a pair of square toe cowboy boots.

70's was all about disco, disco and more disco.

Polyester shirts and dresses.

Farrah Fawcett hairdo's and extreme curling iron curls away from the face.

Clunky charm bracelets around 1976.

Shopping at 5-7-9 shops.

Shiney gym type short shorts with the satin finish.

Lip Smackers - in soda flavors.

Music - The Who, Queen, Led Zepplin. Remember when Black Sabbeth and Led Zipplin was considered "Acid Rock"!!

Movies: Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Star Wars - 1977+

"When you can't shampoo....Minapoo!"
It was like a spray powder for your hair.

I graduated high school in 71! Yikes, that's a long time ago!

Anyhow, I remember elephant pants. They were like bell bottoms but much wider leg at the bottom. And lots of incense! Covered up other smoky odors. Also patches on blue jeans. So many patches that it was hard to see the blue of the jeans. And all day, outdoor band concerts. They were great! Bring a blanket, a picnic, a cooler full of beer and stay all day. Mostly it was various local bands but we really had a good time!

that first quiz -- so true -- except

it wasn't Squiggy Frome --- it was Squeaky Frome who tried to kill President ford. Squiggy was Lenny's buddy on Laverne & shirley.

and it wasn't "I'm an Egyptian", it was "Walk Like an Egyptian" and it was popular in the 80's -- my 1987 wedding video has guests dancing to that song. the 70's song was Steve Martin's "King tut" -- released in 1978.

I also forgot.........

The Dorothy Hammell hair cut (figure skater who won gold in the Olympics in 1976)

And the Shag cut!!!

I think it was called Body on Tap. It was shampoo with beer in it. Also, saving stale beer from your big brother's keg party to wash your hair. Why did we do that?!

How about:
Happy Days;
Welcome Back Kotter;
All in the Family; and,
Soap (or was that the 80's?).

Who remembers:
Wacky Pack stickers;
Pop Rocks;
Sea Monkeys;
Mark Spitz (in a speedo); and,
a new theme park called Walt Disney World?

"This is Major Tom to Ground Control." Bowie

Long hair on girls, longer hair on boys, hip huggers, elephant
bells with ragged edges, Vietnam ended, the last"Draft",
George McGovern, Elton John, pot and LSD were commonplace.
some people called the space cowboy "Maurice".
The 70's are for me:The Lost Years

Color TV came about in the late 50's and early 60's- not the
70's.
