Life's a Happy Song When There's Someone by my Side to Sing Along* TR started! *

Nice DHS day! I hope you enjoy 50's, we had an absolute blast there!
The only place you'll drink coffee... Downtown Disney? No... Epcot? Hahaha I have no clue, I don't drink coffee.

I called Disney yesterday to upgrade to preferred. I'm very happy with the decision. Thanks for the advice.

I don't drink coffee at home either. There's only one place in the whole word where I will actually order a coffee and drink it. It's not in any theme park though.

Great PTR so far! I just read through your last TR and the first posts of this PTR! Your proposal was so cute! Although it didn't go according to plan, it seems that it worked out well. ToT seems like such a cool place to do it, and a ride you both love. Wishes would have been cool too, but so "expected," if you know what I mean!

Can't wait to read more about your trip... and your upcoming wedding!

Thanks for joining in! I never even thought about talking about the wedding but I will definitely make a post about it soon. Everything is starting to fall into place so that's one less stress to deal with.

Soundtrack: My Laughing Place

Welcome back!

I'm having another medical test done today so I'm missing all of today's classes. Since I'm stuck at home I figured I might as well give you guys another update :). In the last post I gave you one hint about what we have in store for day 4. It starts off with the only place in the world (The whole world) where I willfully drink coffee...

Day 4: Magic Kingdom and food

Our day will start off at the Polynesian for breakfast at Kona Cafe. This was actually our first ADR on our first trip and it was a hit! Jessica needs her coffee in the morning and I had read on the Dis that Disney coffee wasn't very good so I purposely booked Kona in order to satisfy her coffee craving. Since we where on the dining plan I sacrificed my drink and got us a Press pot of Kona coffee. The CM poured some in both of our glasses so I figured I might as well have a sip. Well what do you know it actually tasted good! I usually think that coffee tastes like something burned but this one I enjoyed.
P1030871.jpg

BUT! the coffee isn't the main reason for going to Kona...
P1030878.jpg

THIS! this is the reason. Tonga Toast must be the most tasty breakfast food ever!

Our ADR is for 7:30 so we should be done with plenty of time to hop onto the monorail and head to the most magical place on earth!

THE MAGIC KINGDOM!
P1030879.jpg

Last year I had forgotten my kttw in our room so before Jess killed me I suggested we make a stop at guest services who quickly gave me a new card and we where on our way again. I wasn't allowed to carry the wallet after that! (It's not my fault, I was too worried about the diamond I was carrying in my backpack to even think about my wallet).

Anyways back to our plans for day 4.

Must do's for Magic Kingdom include:

*starting the day with the Welcome show

Here's a amateur video that I took of the show (Click on the image to see the video).

* Visiting my friends Buzz, Pooh, Peter and 999 ghosts.

We have 5:00PM reservations at the Grand Floridian Café which was by far one of our favorite if not our favorite dining experience from our last trip.

And our dessert tray

After supper the plan is to head back to MK and finish off the night there.

According to my Disney home page we are at 143 days! I can't wait to be there again.

I don't have my planning binder so I don't remember what our plan is for Day 5 but I think it has to do with animals. THanks for reading this far. Let me know what you think about my plans so far :)

Lovin' it so far! Kinda been breezing through since I have to catch my bus in, oh...2 minutes. :scared: Anyway, can't wait to finish reading, and give it a proper browse. popcorn:: The proposal was so cute! And, great pictures! :thumbsup2

Ohhh Kona looks good. I was trying to convince DH to go either there or 'Ohana next time. He was iffy, maybe if I tell him there's good coffee at Kona he'll go for it!
Love the MK plans, hitting all the good points of course!
Your 1900 PF dessert looks yummy!

Awesome plans so far :thumbsup2 I totally think you'll be fine in Epcot, especially where you guys won't be doing too many of the rides. We usually start in Canada, though I have gone the other way around and started off in Mexico...it doesn't really matter where you start off though. We really like the Japan pavilion, and if you start in Canada you're closer to that one  If you haven't tried anything from the bakery in France, I highly recommend you guys make a quick stop in there and try a few things...you won't be disappointed :cool1:

I had the slider plate in Morocco at the Tangerine Cafe last May, and it was really good...I don't remember what my fiance had off the top of my head, but I remember her liking my food better :rolleyes1 You can check out my TR if you want...I don't quite remember how much detail I went into on that day though, it was almost a year ago

Also, I think it's great you upgraded to a preferred room at the POP. It will be a nice connivence (and will get you closer to the tie-dye cheesecake)

Kona is delicious! I really recommend it as a way of starting out the day. The breakfast options are relatively inexpensive so we are not even going to put it on the DDP. I completely forgot that part of the New Fantasyland will be open when we go in August so we'll need to check that out as well.

Thanks for the tips :)...I'll do anything to get me closer to the Tie-Dye Cheesecake! Although I wish the Art of Animation standard rooms would be open when we go in August. I would give up the cheesecake for that in a heartbeat!

Great plans for your MK day! We both love the Tonga Toast as well, and I love that Kona isn't crowded so service is always quick and we always make it to rope drop afterwards.

Yes! Please feel free to share your wedding details as well! I would love to hear more of what you and your lovely DF are planning!

Soundtrack: WE SWIM!

Wow it's been a while since I've updated my PTR or even posted on the DIS! It's been a very hectic month so far. Before I start with Day 5 of our PTR I'd like to give a few updates...
1. I passed that exam from a few weeks ago :) I'm one step closer to being a doctor!
2. Jess's and I's weight loss is going great. I'm at 13 pounds loss and I am loving the Weight Watchers plan. We've started walking 3 weeks ago, partly to prepare for a 5K walk in June but also to be in top shape for Disney!
3. We found an apartment in the town where I grew up to move in together! I am so happy to be moving back there after two years away. I'll be driving down there tomorrow to sign the lease.

I think that's it for the life updates. Now it's time to talk Disney.

Day 5: Animal Kingdom!

I'm going to start this post with a question. Should we book breakfast at Tusker House? As of now we have an early supper at Yak and Yeti and the Wishes Dessert Party that night but I'm worried that the supper will take away our appetite so I am considering getting breakfast instead and then sharing a QS for supper. Any advice would be appreciated.

The plan for Day 5 is to make it to AK for Rope Drop but once there I don't know which way we are going to go.

Option 1: Head straight to the Safari
I like going to the Safari early because it means that the animals are going to be more active. On our last trip we got to see the male lion walking around and the giraffe's where all over the place. BUT! the safari is out of the way of our other must do's
P1050376-1.jpg

Do you mind? I'm trying to eat here.

Option 2: Expedition Everest, Primeval Whirl and DINOSAURS
This it the touring plan that we followed for our first day in AK last year. I love getting to these big three rides done early and then riding Safari with a fastpass early in the day. It also leaves us in a great position to go see the first showing of Flights of Wonder.
P1050362.jpg

See you in 2 weeks!

P1050318.jpg

I'm not scared of you...yet!

On our last trip this wasn't an issue since we had two days in AK but this time we only have 1 and a half. I think that we will take our first afternoon in the park to get the big three rides done and then go straight to Safari at Rope Drop.

Once the day get's started there are a few more must do's:

* Get a picture of the Yeti: For some reason I love taking pictures on EE (No flash of course).
P1050439-1.jpg

Running away from the yeti.

*See Jess be scared on Dinosaurs: before riding Dinosaurs for her first time I warned Jess that it was quite intense and she answered: "I don't understand how it can be intense if it's not a roller coaster" and then she yelled during the whole time we where traveling through time. I LOVED IT!

*Flights of Wonder: I'm a big biology nerd so I love animals especially birds. This is a great show and I love trying to take good pictures of the birds. They are too quick for me most of the time though.

*See the vets working at Rafiki's Planet Watch: I know that if you are at RPW at the right time of the day you might get to see the vets doing surgery or doing a checkup on the animals. I would love to get to see this.

*See Finding Nemo the Musical: We where dissapointed with the lack of Lion King themed things in Disney (it is Jess's favorite movie) but we expected the Festival of the Lion King to make up for it (it didn't) but the Finding Nemo Musical is amazing! The puppets are mind blowing and of course I love the story.
P1050325-1.jpg

Definitely broadway quality!

* Walk the exploration trails: No much to stay about this except that I'm afraid that in the summer heat we won't be able to enjoy these like we would like. They are long walks when it feels like you are on fire.

*SEE THE PARADE!!! We missed it last time but I've since heard it is the best parade.

*Stop and enjoy the sights and sounds: Cheesy but true
P1050352-1.jpg

Cast member's singing to welcome us to Animal Kingdom. What a way to start the day!
P1050453.jpg

Did you know that the structure of the tree is actually an oil rig?

After our day at AK we are making the long trek up to the Magic Kingdom for the Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party. We loved this experience! For us it is definitely worth the price to have reserved seating and unlimited desserts!
P1050818-1.jpg

Here's a view from our seat.

Thanks for reading! Looking forward to hearing from y'all!

Congrats on passing your exam, and for the success with Weight Watchers!!! :goodvibes

I highly recommend the Safari Breakfast at the Tusker House. The biggest reason I like it is because if you can get a spot right at 8am, you'll be in the park before it opens, giving you a huge advantage over the guests that can't get in until 9. Now, you can't go on rides until 9, but by the time you're done your breakfast (which was awesome when we were there last year :thumbsup2 ) it's pretty much time for the park to open and you can head over to the safari, or to EE for FP's if that's what you'd prefer. We did the safari first...

My cousins did the dessert party after having a TS meal for supper, and they regretted it because they were still full from their meals. That being said, they would give it another try, but on a more empty stomach.

No matter how you choose to divide up your time, it sounds like your AK day(s) will be awesome! :cool1:

Congratulations on passing your exam!! Congratulations to both of you on your weight loss successes and the new apartment too. :goodvibes

To answer your question: For me personally, I would book Tusker House breakfast (which I have not done but heard great things about) and cancel the Yak & Yeti. As much as I want to eat at Y&Y, and prefer a big dinner to a big breakfast, I would want to make sure I wasn't too full to properly enjoy the desserts at the Wishes party.

I made an ADR for the earliest time still available for that morning (at Tusker House) but I'll keep looking to see if something closer to 8:00 opens up. I love getting into the parks before everyone else!

We did the Dessert party last year and I didn't eat very much but that might of been because I was nervous about proposing haha!

Btw Congrats on finishing your B.A :)

I think I agree with you about our dining plans. I made a Tusker House ADR since a 8:15 time was available so we now have that option if we choose to switch to breakfast instead of supper. Besides AK has good QS options (flame tree BBQ Miam!)

You'll still get in early at 8:15. I would try to be there at like, 7:45 in case they can take you early...you never know :thumbsup2 Even if you're not done until 9:30, you'll still be deep in the heart of Africa before a lot of people have a chance to make their way back there :cool1:

Yeah, if I had gone through with my original plan and proposed in Disney after a dinner, I really don't think I'd have been able to eat much of that dinner  I have a feeling you'll be able to enjoy the desserts at the dessert party a little more this time :)

Soundtrack:Remember the Magic!

I'm sure I'm not the only one of these boards who experiences Disney withdrawal every so often. I thought I'd share the things that help me get through those days when there's nothing I want more than to return to the most magical place on earth.

These are a few of my favorite Disney things:

Sorcerer Radio:
Great web site and mobile app that plays good disney music all day long. They have different shows every hour and the music is picked by a DJ (not just randomized). My favorite part is at 9:00PM EST when they play the music of the Nighttime shows. It really helps me to feel like I am in WDW.

WDW Radio
This is my favorite Disney podcast. Lou Mongelo who is the host knows everything about WDW (especially about food). There is a new podcast every week and on Wednesday night he does a live newscast from somewhere in the parks. This is a great place to learn more about the history of WDW and for tips and tricks about touring.

Disboards trip reports
Ok so I realize most of you know about this since you are here but I wanted to mention it because I LOVE reading trip reports. I live vicariously through a lot of different people haha! I've learned so much about touring by reading trip reports. Honestly, last year when I forgot my key to the world in our room I swear we would of drove back to All Star Sport had I not of read about someone who was able to get a new key at guest services!

Grooveshark
This is not an official Disney themed thing but I love being able to build my own playlist with Disney song. They really have a great selection of songs from Disney World and Disney movies.

Youtube:
This is the perfect place to go to relive your favorite attractions, parade or nighttime show. There are many good HD versions of all my favorite Disney World moments. I love watching ride throughs in HD on full screen... It almost feels like I'm there :rolleyes1.

Disney Recipes:
One of the things we miss most about WDW is the food. Looking at picture of disney food only makes me crave it more. So we decided to try to recreate some of our favorites at home. We followed the recipe for Crystal Palace's Pooh Puffs and got some very tasty treats that did not look at all like what it was supposed to. But it was fun and tasted right so that's all that counts right?

Documentaries:
Last week I watched The Pixar Story which is about the creation and first 20 years of pixar. I thought it was interesting how it's story is so closely intertwined with Disney animation's story.

A good Disney World Documentary was one that I found on Itunes. It's an episode of Modern Marvels about Disney imageneering. I learned a lot a how WDW came to be built and about behind the scene details about the parks.

I have a list of documentaries that I haven't seen yet but I want to:
*Waking Sleeping Beauty
*The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' story

P1050746.jpg

What do you guys do to remember the magic?

Thanks for the radio websites. I have been wanting to listen to park music and can't find it and I stumbled across a radio station (probably one you listed) and couldn't find it again! So thanks for that

I've seen Pixar Story, too. Cool movie. And I work in the DVD department at Barnes & Nobles and we sell the Two Boys one (which looks super interesting) and the modern marvels one and I'm REALLY tempted to buy. I found Two Boys on Netflix instant watch, though.

I do most of the things you do (minus food, except avocado margarita!). But I also rewatch all my Disney movies. Even if it's just in the background while I'm working.

You're right! Watching Disney Movies I forgot about that one. I love putting on Lilo and Stitch in the background. It's not my favorite movie but I love the music in it so it's perfect for when I study.

Heyyy those are great ideas! Lots of new stuff there for me. Ironically, I've been trying to tell DH about a certain song from the Epcot area music and I couldn't find it. I clicked on Sorcerer radio and would you believe that was the first song I heard? It's the Innoventions music.
Personally... I go through my old pictures. Albums and scrapbooks and just the digital files. I listen to music (but I've never seen those radio stations! Thanks for those!) and I watch Disney music. I Dis a lot too ;)
