Perhaps its a matter of friction... have you tried applying some Body Glide to your feet?

Kathy

It's not so much I have an issue with this happening, I want/need them to toughen up each spring and then they are fine all summer. I just think it's weird that I was the only one with the issue. It's not a park issue, it's an every spring issue.

It is, of course, friction. You have bare foot against shoe, so it doesn't matter much what shoe. Some are better than others. But I prefer to be sockless when it's warm out, I can't/won't do tennis shoes unless its for the gym.

Body glide, honestly, grosses me out and I haven't found it to be really helpful. It could help in the moment if I was in a situation where I had to keep a certain pair of shoes on and needed it to get by but I'm talking more about just the annual process of toughening up my feet.

It isn't the bottoms of my feet, just certain areas where things rub until the skin toughens a little. Like in between the toes for flip flops, around the top side edges of a flat or a heel, where sandal straps might hit, etc.

If I wore a certain pair too much to the point of getting hot spots and didn't switch, then I would use body glide to get through that day (theough more likely I'd get blister bandaids if it was at that point) but if I used it all the time then they'd never toughen up.

I don't think.

So for example, feet were tender in a few spots from some flats worn without socks last week and then in between the toes from my keens. Neither of these are new at all. Feet are fine now and different flats yesterday and today have hit different spots and no issues which implies progress in the toughening process but I've still a ways to go before I have my "summer feet".

I tend to wear really worn in shoes to Disney and this helps as all the rubbing spots are well broken in!!! I did waer sneakers this year for the first time a nd had no problems with them !! Actually CROCS are the best for me !!

It doesn't seem to matter for me, worn shoes or not, at the start of the season I need to rebreak my feet in. I do wear tried and true shoes as a general rule but it's just the transition to no socks.

I don't find crocs comfy at all but I know lots of folks swear by them!

I am and will alway be your friend.....ooops wrong forum...(thought this was the trekkers forum;))

I am and will alway be a flip flop kind of guy....

Awareness is half the battle now it's figuring out how to make the transition as smooth as possible..if it is possible...

Hate 'em.

So does Jeff. He does like sandals in the summer though, has some cool Keens and Aldo's.

aware and duly annoyed!

:rotfl:

not with you. or the flip flops. just the transition. it's a pita!

are there foot forums somewhere in the net universe? surely there must be?

:rotfl:

I so do not need a foot forum.

:rotfl:

Just wondering if others go through it. So THANK YOU AMY for making me feel less weird! :thumbsup2 Or at least not alone....

I didn't even know I was weird until last night

:rotfl:

However, I am quite sure there is a foot forum! I survived bunion surgery, that's about as much foot talk as I ever want to go through in my lifetime.

Every year, my feet do the same thing, but to a 1000% worse degree.

I think it has to do with no socks as well, but mine get deep cracks in them, to the point of bleeding. I don't have a solution for you, I just know that if I'm in socks and keeping them moist, it's not a problem. I think, don't mean to gross you out, but, I really think that with socks you get a fair amount of moisture (sweat) buildup that keeps them soft. Here we have a dust issue and our dust/soil has HUGE amounts of salt in it that I'm sure exaserbates the problem.

I wish I could keep wearing the shoes, but it gets 85 in the house- so there's no way I"m wearing shoes. I just deal with it.... :sad2:

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have the same issue: feet need to be "trained" to survive in shoes without socks every spring (more likely early summer for me). I thought that was normal, too.

Why don't your friends have this issue? Is it possible that they don't walk very much, so never get to the point where blisters or hot spots could develop? Or perhaps they just don't notice it?

And Liesa, it sounds like you have problems with dry skin on your feet? Have you ever tried a foot lotion with urea in it? Really great for dry skin!

Yes, I think so! We have 0% humidity here, added to the salty dust, and it's simply that... a dryness problem.

I do rub oil and lotion on, but it only helps to a certain degree. I have no idea where to find the lotion with urea in it. Wouldnt' even know what that's called here... :confused3
