I am developing a plan to collect and transport your book donations to Christy for her town library. Start saving your books NOW!

If you think you'll have books to donate, please post below, so we have some idea of quantity and location of the donations.

Anyone got a catchy title?

Watch this space in October for more details.

Oh this is perfect timing! One of our tasks for this weekend is to clean out the garage and I have a bunch of books in there! :goodvibes

I would say that I have at least 3 large paper boxes of children's, educational, and computer/engineering books. I am near Nan, so if she has anything we could put them together. :goodvibes

As far as a title, what about Bookin' it for _____?

Thank you Linda for putting this all together....

we are definately in to help out, will go through books we have and also see what we can find....I love buying little kid books!

hmm a title.......

Help Lift A Village Book Drive

It Takes a DIS Village to Help a VT Village Book Drive

we have a ton of books just sitting in our basement. we keep saying we need to donate them but haven't yet. please keep me posted!!!

We also have lots of books. I am planning to visit DS at college, which is not far from where Christy is, in October so I was going to see if I could stop and drop them off if they were ready for them.

Keep me posted and I will see what is going to work best for the library.

I LOVE you all!!!!

Christy, let us know when you are ready for books, DS will be back and forth at least once a month.

Thank you all!! I will we are hoping to hear from the planning board about the historic parts to salvage and what we can take out. I have someone cleaning the upstairs so then i can at least spray for mold.

I hope sooner than later!!!

We have lots of kids books too Christy! A bunch of grown up/teen stuff too!

Doing a collection at my house too. I am going to ask my mother to check with her book club as well. :)

Today was full of good news/bad news and will put things in more turmoil to some extent. I have to now wait for board decisions that will be made on friday am before I say to much more.

It's been a long road and could get a bit longer. Thank you for all that you are doing!

Back now and ready to roll.

Christy and her community need time to get their library building in order, so here's

My (tentative) plan

1. Remind you all at regular intervals of the need for book donations - clean and in good condition - especially children's books - but any useful books will be accepted. Right now, I'd say "No Textbooks", since they get out of date so quickly.

2. Ask you to keep me posted as to how many you have - if it's over a van load, I may need to make other plans.

3. Camp Wannacropit weekend at Cape Cod in March 2012 - Collect the donations either AT camp, if you're going, or at a "meet up" on the way.

4. Deliver them to Christy and company on the way home.

5. If you want to contribute and don't live within reach of the route from Albany, NY to Cape Cod, you have a couple choices. Send the books via media mail (cheapest) directly to Christy - at a future time and address she will provide by PM. Or, if the cost of shipping is prohibitive, I'm sure there will be a rebuilding fund set up. Again, Christy can provide details by pm.

Suggestions welcome :)

PS. Mods? Do I need permission to post this?:confused3

Thanks Linda, I've already got a box going, will ship when they are ready for them!

I have a box going here. Will make plans to drop off to her when she is ready. I can always use this as an excuse to visit DS at school.;)

My boys have several that they don't look at but I'm not sure how to send them or if you would even want them. I wonder about just sending some money or if there is a bookstore that would take the collection

do you want paper backs or do you prefer hardback books?? I can send several but I'm not sure if it would cost more to mail than to buy the books - I could check with this lady that sells used books & see if she has any ideas

is there a flyer that someone has fixed up for this project??

Hello all and THANK YOU!!!

At this point Linda is correct in saying no textbooks, also self help and fix it type are all safe.

If you want to make a tax deductable monetary donation I am happy to provide that address via PM (if that is ok with the mods)

I will also provide the address to mail books to via pm.

We are in the process of inventoring the collection that is left and as soon as that is done (abt 1/3 of the way there) I will be ready to start receiving boxes via mail. Our plan is to inventory them as they come in so that we have a running inventory so if and when (we know it will happen) we get multiples they can be sorted for the book sale to raise money for the building fund. That being said the trustees are still in a holding pattern on the building via insurance. We have a tentative total but are waiting on the final say so to move forward.

1 thing I do need is a grant writer so if anyone is good at it and wants to volunteer for it...... let me know.

Thank you all you are the best friends!

We have a meeting with the selectboard tomorrow night for more information on how we are to move forward. It's a town library in a town owned building but the charter says the trustees have full and total control so it is a very sticky situation and so we've treaded very lightly.

Hopefully on wed I can give you all some more info and then by the end of the month I can say that we are ready to start accepting books. I'm in hopes that I can really clean out the garage over the next 2 weekends. I'm getting a good system down so things are moving faster.

I have a large bag of books ready to send. :goodvibes
