Library or children's books on board?

Just wondering if there is a small library or any children's books on board? We read a lot and I know the kids would love it (going to do a 14 nt cruise, so more downtime than a shorter cruise )

There are no libraries on Disney ships. I'm not sure whether the kid's club has books, or if they would lend them out, if they do. It may be best for you to bring a few books along of your own.

Actually, that makes me think that maybe doing a "library" of sorts would work I will see if other parents on our cruise would be interested in bringing 2-3 books and we can all pass them around

There are usually books you can take from Cove Cafe (at least on the Dream class ships) that have been left behind by other passengers. If you finish a book you bring onboard you can leave it in the same place. They're not kids' books, though.

I do like the idea of the "portable library" that parents could bring on and exchange. Heck, just do a book swap. Bring books that have already been read and exchange them with others.

Are you doing the May PC crossing? My DD also loves to read so I load up her kindle with library books before we leave. We can get a limit of 15 ebooks and our local library has lots of great kids books. Last time we loaded up on Nancy Drew.

Loading up the Kindle is a great idea! The kids each have iPads so that would work out well too.

One of the PC crossings! We were booked for this year's May PC and had to cancel. We are tentatively booked on the August PC BUT the prices had really risen and timingwise it doesn't work as well as May 2017 or Oct 2017 PC, so I'm waiting to see what happens when the schedule comes out. We will definitely be on one of them though!

I didn't see one on the Dream. We are book junkies so we loaded all our iPad's with about a dozen books each. Thank goodness for the kindle app. We would have a suitcase full of books.

No such luck but my library has Overdrive and we load up our devices! Books weigh a lot and when flying every pound counts! We learned that the hard way last month! LOL

I like to use Overdrive from the library too for ebooks, as well as OneClickDigital from the library as well for audiobooks. I have not had great success with the variety of kids books on these from my library ( much better adult variety.) One option is to download a classic non children's book such as Huck Finn or swiss Family Robinson. I think i will do this on our upcoming trip. Since we will all be in the same room and need to turn the lights out at basically the same time, i am planning to download a classic audio book. I do love the stories, but also, if we listen at night, they lull us to sleep in record time. My favorite thing to do is to have the audiobook and the same book either in paperback or ebook (text) so that i can switch back and forth, but I can't always find both.

You seem to have it worked out but wanted to chime in to say don't count on much in the onboard stores either. I'm a reader an never dreamt the selectionofbooks and magazines would be so scarce..

Our library has the Overdrive sister for the kids, I believe it's called TumbleBooks and it's full of loads of picture books and audiobooks for kids. It's fabulous but as my kids get more into the YA section of reading they move into Overdrive little by little!

i didn't know about the magazines, thanks. I would bet a lot of people still do not know of the free downloadable books.

Our library stinks with Zinio. There are about 5 magazines on it, which absolutely stinks, because they have a FABULOUS selection of magazines in house!

I would like to mention BookBub. It is an email that you sign up for. It lets you pick the areas you are interested in such as Romance, Science Fiction, Kids, Nonfiction, etc. And then they send you a daily email that links to places like Amazon where you can download for free or some are discounted prices. I have more books on my Kindle App then I could dream of reading without paying anything.
