LGB to DL?

Well then. The hotel and flights are booked. Food reservations made. A rough plan mapped out. What final detail did I leave for the last minute?

Transportation from the airport to the hotel!

I've read a lot of the various threads on shuttles to take, and my last trip to Disney we took the Disneyland Express from SNA... but they don't pick up from LGB. I was looking at Supershuttle, but even with the discount codes I've seen, it's not really that great of a deal. For two adults, it's going to be $88 round trip.

I mean, really. At $88 round trip (plus tip) should I really even bother booking a shuttle in advance? If the flat rate from LGB to DL is $45, I'm only saving a couple of bucks.

What do you guys think?

After looking at shuttle costs for the 4 of us to get from LGB to DLR I decided a rental car would actually be more frugal. $150ish, out the door, for a week through Costco Travel. Not everybody wants to go that route though.

When we arrived at Longbeach we just caught a taxi. There was a whole queue of them lined up just outside the car loop and it was super easy and quick. At that time they had posted the flat rates to DL area and it was around $50 (before tip).

The ease of the taxi vs waiting around for a shuttle made it worth it for us.... we like to get to the park ASAP... time is money!

That's sort of my feeling on the whole thing as well. After reading horror stories on here about the various shuttle companies, that's what my dilema is, am I really going to quibble over $10-$15? I mean, sure, i guess I could buy a memento or something with that extra cash, but I'm not sure it's worth the headache.

I have used super shuttle both times I have been and never had a problem with them. Both times they have been there within the time stated, driven safely and overall to me worth not having to deal with the traffic myself :) If you have any questions let me know. I am using them again this November.

We always take a taxi from LGB because of the no-waiting factor. We tried doing a towncar from LGB once, and ending up wasting a lot of time waiting for them to arrive.

We haven't taken a shuttle from LGB before; but taking shuttles from other airports in the area, we've had to make stops before we made it to our hotel--including a stop in a neighborhood, not at another Anaheim hotel! A few more bucks is definitely worth it to us to avoid multiple stops and other wait times.

All of that being said, we DO like to use a particular town car service back to LGB. It's a bit more than a taxi, but so worth the personal service and comfortable ride after a long, tiring DLR vacation.

I am having this same issue. We fly into LGB but out of SNA. The cost of getting to DL from LGB seems outrageous to me and rental car prices the week we are going are insane as well. Guess we may have to shell out the cash for my family of 4 to take a taxi.:confused3

What about a taxi on the way back? From the hotel to the airport, I mean? Can the hotel arrange a pickup at a certain time?

For a family of 4 a taxi will actually be cheaper than a shuttle, at least in my experience. A shuttle you pay per person, but the taxis are just a flat fee. And whenever we have caught a taxi at LGB there is a choice of taxi mini vans and sedans. Just make sure you ask/clarify before you select a taxi, what is the flat fee to Disney.

Absolutely! The hotel can arrange your taxi pick up time for you, or they can also get you a town car. We have always arranged our own town car for pick up (when we don't find a good rental car deal) but I know its a service the hotel can provide.

We took a taxi from LGB for our last trip, and it was great! We paid $45 each way before tip. For 3 people, that was much cheaper that Super Shuttle, and it was super easy. We just found a taxi when we exited LGB (they are about 100 yards away, right across from the baggage claim.) And our taxi driver actually gave us his card and said he'd be happy to drive us back as well. I think that may have been why we paid $45 instead of $50 each way. So that's an option you may want to ask about, it could save you a few bucks!

Just to clear up something, the taxi that everyone is talking about being ~$50 (my experience was $55 each of the 4 times we have used it), this is a flat fee that does not go up based on mileage, time or number of people. I think my vocabulary is backwards because I would actually call it a shuttle. It isn't like a taxi that charges on mileage and time. $55 no matter what. Throw in $5-10 for tip and you are looking at $130 round trip.

So the question you have to ask is: is the extra $20 you are paying at Costco worth it to drive yourself?

PP -- I believe the current flat fee rate for a taxi from LGB to DLR is $45.00 before tip -- not $55.00. That is a regulated amount and you should not be charged more than that for a regular car taxi for 3-4 persons -- not sure about a larger van taxi for more people.

OP -- Note that this flat fee only applies to LGB to DLR. The rate may be different returning to LGB--but you might be able to negotiate that as well. The towncar service we use to return to the airport is $55.00.

I'm thinking of taking a cab when we go next year too. Our shuttle journeys usually feel slightly terrifying!
I've never taken a cab in my life so my quesiton is how much should a person tip the cab driver?

Auntiegem, do you mind if I ask the name of the towncar service you use?

Daisy, I would tip anywhere from $5-$10, depending on the service you recieve. Did they load your luggage? Were they a good driver, or one of the crazy fast and unsafe cabbies? It just depends. Standard 18% tip on a $45 fare would be $8, so just keep that in mind :)

yeah OP that really sux....the thing is that for some reason they feel that going into LBC is "way out of the way" which makes no sense to me...but they charge through the gazzoo from LAX to LBC and LBC to anaheim...its actually ridiculous because technically it is farther from LAX to anaheim than LBC to anaheim but whatever:confused3

I looked into Primetime Shuttle this morning and for 4 people, the total is $50.00. I think that's what we will be using.
