Lexus "December to remember" AKA "the thread to remember" AKA "All Hail NU&

Frankly, IMHO, this entire post is starting to sound like sour grapes...

I find it so unbelievable that someone needs to explain or admit their belongings and income to anyone to prove a point. :earseek:

If we are judged primarily by our "things" we are a very sad people.

Oh, and BTW, it's just a marketing ploy. I guess I've been in advertising way too long!

That was the point of my post, I wasn't trying to prove anything. I don't like to throw things in the face of other people, anyone who knows me will tell you that, but I think it was an ignorant comment about people who drive Lexus vehicles being wealthy and should have their own tv channel. It gave the impression that Lexus drivers were snobs, but there are plenty who work hard, are not snobs but happen to have an affinity for nicely built and nicely equipped cars.

if anyone should be offended in this post, it's anyone who owns a car that might not be a fancy shmancy car... atleast after reading this:

. It's definitely worth financing a car that costs more but has a great reputation than a $15,000 piece of junk that is going to cost a fortune in repair bills.

first of all, if you want to talk about a good car, let's talk honda civic. you can get a honda civic for about 15k, and these cars have reputation for being among the best cars, when it comes to repairs, etc. I know people (more than one) that have had hondas for atleast 6 years and the most they've paid for is new tires and breaks, routine maintenance. To call someone's car a peice of junk simply because it costs 15thousand dollars or even less, THAT is offensive.

tricia.

And as I said in my last post, that was meant as a joke.... I'm sorry of some of you didn't catch that part of it. There is absoultely no reason for anyone here to get defensive. I'm happy for anyone that can afford the things they want in life.

I really think that you need to re-read what I posted and tell me where I specifically said that all cars that cost $15,000 are junk.

There are cars in that price range that are junk. Just like there are cars in every price range that are junk.

My point was very simple - I would rather finance a car that costs twice as much that I know is reliable than spend half the money on a car that has a reputation of being in constant need of service (ie: junk).

That doesn't mean I drive an expensive car and it certainly doesn't mean that I think any less expensive car is junk so please don't go off on me about something I didn't say. THAT is offensive.

I hate those ads too! I am glad I am not alone!

Every time I see it, I say "Gimme a break! Whose world is THIS happening in? Certainly not MINE!"

LOL! What a strange topic to end up in a heated debate - I guess you never know.... Just to add my 2 cents, I think the commercials are ridiculous. Even if my hubby could afford to give me a Lexus for Christmas, I'd be annoyed that he chose a car FOR me without my input!! I guess I'm too much of a control freak to appreciate such a grand gesture. :p

"Oh, and BTW, it's just a marketing ploy. I guess I've been in advertising way too long!"

And it's working..... look at people here on a WDW bulletin board- talking about those commercials!

P.S. I drive a 1995 Ford Taurus Station Wagon and I like the Mercedes commercial.... makes me think "someday":)

Honestly, I look at the Lexus commercials and some of the good deals they have going and realize for what I am paying for my Camry I could have leased a Lexus. Now that hurts. :teeth: Beside, I can't drive a better car than my boss, and I just got him to upgrade to a Highlander. :o :p

I thought this thread was meant "tongue-in-cheek", I guess some people take things too seriously. princess:

I think it also has to do with timing and things going on in someones real life. If someone is constantly getting side comments on material possessions and their familiy's worth, then a thread saying that "rich people should have their own TV channel without mcdonalds commericals", etc, might strike a nerve. :)

No worries ::yes::

Wow, lots of Christmas spirit in here!

It must be a NY thing because I wasn't offended at all by the initial posts making fun of the commercials, nor the tongue-in-cheek crack about a separate TV channel....and I have a big house, a Lexus and I'm filthy stinking rich. So rich, in fact, that I'm buying everyone on this thread (except for the other rich folks, of course) their very own Lexus wrapped in a bow made from Burberry scarves!

ok....well...I'm not sure where to start....Let me start by saying that my hubby works for Lexus. He also drives a Lexus. Someday I hope to drive one too. We are NOT rich.

I realize that the OP was not trying to be rude but unfortunatley it came off that way to some people. Hopefully that is somewhat resolved.

I am not butting in here to add to the heat of the debate....

I would like to add a couple things though to maybe help in the perception of Lexus owners:

Most people do not realize that Lexus is one of the most affordable luxury cars on the market.....while simultaneously being one of the best cars on the market in many categories. Don't take my advice on it though.....check it out for yourselves....you may be surprised. I'd also like to add that the long term repair bills on a Lexus would shock most used car owners......Lexus vehicles last practically forever.

If you really want a car that is a little more affordable than a Lexus but almost as high of quality......buy a Toyota.....it's almost the same thing.

I hope this helps at least one Dis'er.

Have a great day day!

Now that everyone is coming out and assuring me that this was all a joke and done tounge-in-cheek, I feel I may have overreacted. I think to a certain extent though that some people may still actually have underlying feelings otherwise they wouldn't have said what they did, but that's a differnet issue. What evil princess said though in my particular case has always been true...I have always worked hard to get what I want, whether it be a car or house or any other "treat" for myself or family. I have always been subjected to the snide comments..."oh look who's driving a better car than the boss" etc. My DW and I are the youngest family in our neighborhood (current and the one we recently moved from) and there have always been the ..."well you must be doing something right or illegal comments" and it gets really played out after a while.

So if I took your joke too seriously then I apologize, but please realize that even joking in certain situations can lead to hurt feelings depending on circumstances (which in your case you were not aware of).

I make no apologies for my work ethic or my principles, it is how I grew up and how I will teach my children and if they work hard they too will be entitled to treat themselves to nice things.

Wow, did you think it was that kind of attitude that fueled my bad mood on my original post? I already explained myself, now move on.

Though big bows made out of the burberry novacheck...now you might be on to something there... ;)

Actually, no. I thought it was just a NY thing....maybe fueled on by some lingering bad feelings over the Yankees getting beat by a Florida team.

OT, if you are buying I'll take this under my tree with a big, big bow on it:

Of course I want it in Twilight Amethyst Pearl.

Thanks! puckerup:

What is with you people from Massachusetts?

Let me share some information with you. I lived in New York for 18 years and had NO IDEA that there was a rivalry between the Sox and the Yankees.

I come to Boston, and I get taunted, screamed at, and nasty things written on my wipe off board about the Yankees and New Yorkers. All this when I never even said I liked the Yankees.

You want to know something else? I DONT LIKE THE YANKEES. I don't hate them, but I don't follow baseball, don't care if they win or loose.

Is the reason why people from Boston/Mass hate New Yorkers because of the Yankees, or is it because of something deeper? I really don't understand. I encounter it on a daily basis, it is one of the reasons why I reacted the way I did to this post.

Tell me, Old timer, are you naturally this nasty, or is it just a Mass. thing?

No it's not a Massachusetts (correct spelling) thing, for me, it's a being rich thing. Although my analyst says it's a deep seated resentment towards Burberry scarf wearers.

Beautiful picture OT!!! Can't wait to drive around in it when you have it delivered to me. I'll be sure to send you a pic of me enjoying it! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
