Levant/Arabian Peninsula region vacation recommendations thread. If you have traveled to any country within those regions for vacation (or business) purposes, where did go and what would you recommend others to do while they vacation there? I often believe they are so many great places in the world to visit but it's mostly through the media that we base our own opinions on specific regions. I know several countries in the region are critized for completely valid reasons but that doesn't mean some areas in the region can't be great vacation spots either. So if you have gone abroad to a country in those regions for vacation, I would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks.

I was supposed to be in Israel right now for work, but it has been pushed back indefinitely. I think it was at least in part because of the current protests.

I’ve been to turkey, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

I’ve been to Istanbul, which is a Great City. Amazing mosquess and history. You’ll see very underground, western modern people and then you’ll see more conservatives. I’ve also been to Cesme which as my sister-in-law had a vacation home, just across greek islands, beautiful beaches and islands.

Dubai it’s like Vegas on steroids and throw in a little bit of a caste system. Drivers there are insane I feared for my life on those highways. Great architecture. I did a desert tour which was interesting. On one side depressing to see that the mentality there is we have a poop load of oil money, so we’re just gonna waste resources and spend money to make things happened in a not natural state for example, globally we have an energy crisis but they’ll build indoor ski slopes in the desert. Or they will build islands like the palm and destroy ocean eco systems ( they claim not so).

Abu Dhabi was more conservative, but I found more culture and a beautiful Mosque there and palace (which like Disney World ( fake) because you can just see you with money anything is possible. It’s not like an old Europe historical castle that’s built over Centuries but basically it’s just throw billions and have poor country folks bulid something for us.

I felt 1000% safe in Dubai and Abu Dhabi turkey is also safe to travel tofew weeks later, there was a bomb that went off near the blue Mosque and there were toursits killed

What I really want to do is maybe go to a Oman because I hear hiking swimming in the nature there can be amazing

One of my goals in life is to see Petra. You can pay me money to go to Saudi as a female.

I just realize my voice to text was really messed up above. I meant to say no amount of money would have me travel there as a woman. A friend of mine, female, was sent there for many months to do medical training. They basically had to hire a male to be their escort, and she had to wear full Burka the whole time I believe they’re finally starting to let women drive. most other nations on the peninsula are very open to western women living their lives , of course don’t walk around in a bikini top or open kissing things like that.

Interesting to know to with Dubai in the UAE. They have blocked any type of Wi-Fi calling or FaceTime so you can send WhatsApp text, but you can’t call or do video. Brave locals use VPN’s to get around this but it’s basically kind of like a mafia thing where they want to have. People pay their local carrier for data to make foreign calls.
