Hi everyone.. how old do the children have to be to check themselves out of the kids club?? my son is 8 and I awas thinking of having him sign out and go to our room to meet us there.... is this possible

The children do have to be 8 years old to do it. We allowed my 8 yr old DS to have this option in Oct 2003. I explained to him that it was a priviledge, and he needed to be 1 of 3 places at all times. The room, the lab or the arcade. He never let me down, and I was very proud of him! I think it was also a great self confidnece booster. I will let him do it again in Nov and give my 8 yr old DD the same opportunity.

Yes they are allowed to sign themselves out at 8 years old, with your permission. Whether you allow it, is entirely up to you. We sailed with our 8 year old and I would have been a nervous wreck. Maybe it was because I could never quite figure out the layout of the ship myself and was constantly having to backtrack to find my room. Navigational skills is not a strong point for me. Plus it depends on the maturity level of your child. Yes, its a Disney cruise and yes we all expect only the finest people to be sailing on them, but you just never know. It's a difficult decision to make.

My DD just turned 9 right before our second cruise this August I was very comfortable that she knew her way around the ship. We gave her permission to sign herself in and out of the club but the club had to page us to let us know that she was leaving and where she was going. That way, we could always meet up with her.

We allowed our 9-1/2 yo ds to sign himself out of the club. If he signed out he was to go back to stateroom. If no one was there he was to leave a Post-It with the info of where he was going. Likewise, if we were out, we'd leave one saying where we were. It worked out beautifully and as one other poster said it is a "great self confidence booster." HTH

I think too that the club/lab can page you with a text message when your child signs out, and says where s/he is going. Is this right?

The club/lab can page you or can write down where they are going. Our ds was required to let the cms know where he would be when he left and that worked great for us the few times we checked.
