Lets use this thread to track Port Upgrades

Okay, thanks so much as I'm thinking you may be right. If only we hadn't upgraded last time, I wldnt be so obsessed with doing it again. Lol

#1. What catagory did you pay for? category V
#2. Which Ship? Dream
#3. Number of Nights? 4
#4. Month/Year of Sailing 11/17/2013
#5. What was your Port of Arrival time assignment? no PAT - concierge
#6. What time did you check-in? on-line at the terminal by about 9:45am, checked in by 10:30 and went straight to supervisor's desk.
#7. What catagory were you offered for upgrade? T and R
#8. How much was the upgrade? $400 for the T and $1400 for the R. We took the R as a splurge and it was totally worth it. We would never have been able to afford to book it ahead of time, but with the upgrade price, we ended up saving over $6k from what that suite would have cost had we paid full price. We ended up paying less altogether than what it would have cost had we even booked a cat T ahead of time - a tremendous deal and we loved every second. Only problem is, we're totally spoiled now!

Woohoo! That's the way to go! I would have done it too!

WOW, that's a great upgrade! Congrats!

#1. What category did you pay for? Cat.5A
#2. Which Ship? Dream
#3. Number of Nights? 4
#4. Month/year of sailing? 11/17/13
#5. What was your port arrival time? 10:30
#6. What time did you check in? 11:45. There was a huge accident in front of the port that morning that had traffic stopped and backed up for miles. I was pretty certain we were not going to be able to upgrade with the late arrival. However, after check in I went straight to the supervisor's desk and had two options offered. Lesson learned, always ask, you never know what pixie dust might be sprinkled on you.
#7. What Category were you offered? Cat V & T
#8. How much was your upgrade? The cat V would have been $400. There were 4 of these to choose from. We also had the choice of one Cat T offered at $800.

This was a no brainer for us we took the Cat T. The Cat T was cabin #12000. Which sits in the middle of the two Cat R. It has a massive verandah. If we had booked this when I checked the price three days before we cruised it would have cost us $4,500 more then we paid.

Thank you to all of you who posted on this thread. I never knew about upgrades before all of you guys shared your experiences. I doubt I will ever get an opportunity like this again. We loved every moment of this special trip.

Where is the supervisor desk?

How do some people know how much it would have cost to upgrade before a cruise (for comparisons). When I pull up a future cruise it doesn't show any possible upgrades yet. Possibly a certain amount of days prior?

When you're facing the check-in desks, the supervisor's desk is all the way down at the far right.

Sometimes people mention how much it would have cost to book the category they ultimately end up upgrading to ahead of time. To do that, you can just pull up your reservation and see what the price is for the category you have in mind. For instance, I had been watching DCL's site before our September cruise on the Dream, and the cost for a category T (1-bedroom suite) was around $5,300. I could have "upgraded" to that category at any time. We chose to take our chances and wait until we got to port since there were 4 showing as available. DH and I had paid about $1,300 for category 7A and the port upgrade to category T cost $1,100 (it was Labor Day weekend, so the prices were a little higher). So our total price was around $2,400, or $2,900 less than it would have cost for us to upgrade to a category T before we sailed.

Thank you for your help. I will get an idea now on prices so I can know if it is for me or not.

Where did you wait at to enter the port...Upstairs on 3 from parking garage or downstairs? Just curious. Thanks and thanks for upgrade details

I really think it's a crapshoot. We waited in the garage in June and there were about 20-30 people ahead of us but we were first in the supervisor's line for an upgrade. I think if you do all of your docs and info online and don't have a bunch of carryon that has to be scanned, you will be better off. But just my 2 cents. Not everyone wants to try and upgrade. So, at least you have that going for you. Good luck!

Does anyone know where the supervisors desk is at Port of Miami?

I had the same question!!

Also, if we have two rooms (a Verandah and an Inside) for a family of five, can we upgrade and combine both rooms into one if we are able to snag a suite? Or would we only be able to upgrade one room to one room (and would I feel guilty in Concierge while my older teens are in an inside? No! :rotfl2:)

Wonder Nov. 16th. From cheapest inside restricted GYT, $1950 total to Category 4 room 8064, $735. So less than $2700 total. Room is still small for four people even though we didn't use the murphy bed. Really liked the location.

One bedroom would have been $1300 which looking back we would have booked. But with little concierge benefits on Wonder we decided against it not realizing how small cat 4 is. We really like JR suites on RCCL, compares to a large hotel room.

This was a month ahead booking so we did very little research beyond knowing that we could probably upgrade at the port for a lower cost than booking ahead. There were no rest. GYT for cat 4 in advance.

Disney Dream Nov. 21, 3 day
Cat 9d to cat 4- $420

I also too a picture if the upgrade sheet. I'll post it soon.

I have this question too. Being a family of 6 we have two rooms booked. In the extreme off chance that there would be a two bedroom available as an upgrade, how does that work? Thanks.

#1. What catagory did you pay for? 5A
#2. Which Ship? Fantasy
#3. Number of Nights? 7 Night Eastern
#4. Month/Year of Sailing November 16, 2013
#5. What was your Port of Arrival time assignment? 10:30-10:45
#6. What time did you check-in? Around 10:45
#7. What catagory were you offered for upgrade? Walt Disney Suite
#8. How much was the upgrade? $3400

We ended up not taking the upgrade.... this was our first cruise and we knew that if we took the upgrade we would never want to leave the room and experience the cruise! It was pretty awesome to even have the chance to upgrade though! I hope someone else was able to take advantage!pixiedust:

Supervisor's desk in Miami is immediately to the right as you come into the check in area.

You can't combine 2 rooms if you upgrade, but you may be able to book all 5 of you into the suite, then just have the extra room for the teens to sleep in. That way they get the benefits of concierge but the extra room for sleeping, clothing storage, etc.

This is from the Dream 3 night cruise on November 21st. It's not the best picture but hopefully it will help someone. You will have to zoom in to see anything.

Wow, for me I would have taken it in a split second. I wonder who took it? I left a message on meet thread about that cabin.
