I was just looking at these last night! I'm tempted to try one - my friend highly recommends them.

Never heard of a Shady Brook - what stores carry them? We recently made a Butterball that I had in the freezer - it was a tiny one but boy did it have a lot of meat to it.

Can't beat Costco's fresh turkeys.

I really like Empire turkeys if you can find them. They are Kosher, and somehow everything I've ever tried that was kosher has been better than average.

Have also ordered fresh turkeys from our local butcher but didn't think there was much difference in taste, at least not enough to justify a $50 bird.

I did notice that a fresh bird cooks WAAAAY faster than a previously frozen one.

I like Butterballs. I've tried the free-roaming "organic" turkeys and they were tough with an earthy flavor. Give me fat, lazy, injected turkeys any day.

Name brand doesn't matter. It's the skill of the cook that determines the quality of the finished product. Who's the absolute best? My mama.

I agree. I have purchased numerous name brands and can't tell the difference. I do seem to end up with Shady Brook Farms most often as they are usually the best price.

I live in Maryland and purchased a Shady Brook turkey at Giant. The local Safeway here has them too.

Agreed!

With everything else we put away on Thanksgiving, going healthy with the turkey is a totally moot point anyway. Give me flavor!

I have had great luck with Shady Brook also
