TOTALLY!!! Wish Arron Asham would keep himself under a little more control though. That cross check and then punch to the head was excessive and gave Flyers the opportunity to score again!

It's only the end of the first and so far this game has had everything. What's the next two periods hold? The flyers are getting under the Penguins skin I think.

That slashing call on Kunitz was a bad one. Given the cross-checking penalty Letang took in the first, there should have been a call before the slash.

My best friend and I are huge Flyers fans, however she lives in Pittsburgh and is loving this right now. I keep texting her husband and gloating and he is so annoyed at the 2 of us right now.

This has got to be one of the most exciting first rounds in a LONG time. Really, the only "upset" that would remotely surprise me would be Ottawa beating the Rangers. Other than that most of the teams are pretty evenly matched. And the Flyers/Pittsburgh series is CRAZY.
Due to work I only watched game 1 which was pretty tame but I had a friend update me at work during today's game and I saw clips of some of the dirty. WOW. Have to believe there will be some suspensions coming out of that one, especially Asham (sorry Heather! but that crosscheck and punch to Shenn's head was pretty bad).
Pittsburgh being down three games in the first round on the verge of being swept is one of the very last things I would expect out of this first round. What the heck is going on in Pittsburgh!

Also love the huge amounts of OT games. I LOVE playoff OT (as long as it's not my team). It has been AWESOME. This is best time of year.

Hopefully Vancouver can pull one out tonight. They just seem a little out of it. Also, if they lose my friend will be really sad in an obnoxious way. Poor guy

How awesome are this year's playoffs? 8 over time periods in 19 games. And the 2 most despised teams are on the verge of being swept (knock wood). With those 2 serieses, I'm waiting for 2 things.

1st) To hear Vancouver whine "Well, we don't have a #2 scorer..." You don't say... You lost a significant offensive presence due to a concussion and that's an excuse for hanging them up? I can see that. After all, NOBODY could recover from such a loss and win the Cup. Ohhh... Wait...

2nd) Seeing Crosby actually fight a fight that he started. SERIOUSLY!!! You are going to cowboy collar Scott Hartnell and not expect him to do anything? But at least we know that Crosby's skill to skate backwards is still intact. He bought enough time so that Adams could skate over and bail him out.

Big game for the B's tonight. i think we're gonna see a totally different style Caps tonight. Should be interesting.

Crazy game 2 for my Rangers! While I think Hagelin's suspension is warranted, I cannot BELIEVE he got 3 games while Carkner only got 1. Hagelin's hit was (I hope) accidental and he's never received a major. Carkner jumped Brian Boyle and is a repeat offender so...really? Way to be consistent, Shanahan. I was so mad they lost that game and took out my anger with a few choice words for Del Zotto. But overall it's just one game. Game 3 tonight!

As for the Penguins? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. As much as I hate the Flyers, I'm loving every second of this. The team to beat huh? Doesn't look like it! (sorry Pens fans)

That was lame. I was yelling at my tv at Arron. Like you don't cross check someone in the throat....but then you really don't need to punch them in the back of the head when they are already down on the ice.

I didn't think the initial cross-check was THAT bad. It looks like he went for the chest and it slid up (still, no excuse). But THEN to punch him while he's down?! Dumb.
Shenn's hit WAS a charge, though. I get the "sticking up for your team" thing. But do it with a fight or a big hit. That's why those things are still legal!

And I thought Hagelin's suspension was correct. But I thought Carkner should have gotten more games. Just awful behavior.



Will be interesting to see what happens with Backstrom. He received a match penalty for a crosscheck at the end of the game which is an automatic 1 game suspension. I didn't think it was suspension worthy so I would be surprised if the league didn't rescind the suspension. If the Caps lose Backstrom this will quite easily be a 3-1 series for the Bruins!

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Carkner cleary targeted Boyle but only received one game so I don't think Hagelin deserved 3. There is no consistency with NHL officiating. Oh well, Boyle scored and shut the boo birds up last night so it's all good.

Carkner only got one game because Boyle wasn't injured. He only got the game misconduct because he instigated, and the suspension was because he used excessive force.

Really, what did you expect when the Sen's opening line up was Carkner, Konopka, Cowen, Smith and Neil? You can't let a 6' 7" brute like Boyle throw punches at your marquee player, who stands 5' 11" and weighs in at about 165. Boyle targeted Karlsson throughout Game 2, so they had to send a message.

Carkner and Neil are two of the toughest guys to ever lace up (and truth be told, they are my two favourites!)

Fantastic game last night. It was incredible to be there for the 1st playoff home game.

I think I speak for MOST of Chicago when I say that a 3 game suspension for Andrew Shaw is LUDICROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess instead of bumping into the goalie, he should have jammed his face into the glass

Will the Hawks be OK without the rookie? sure, but the inconsistency of punishment by the NHL has been insane during the playoffs. They set a terrible example by only giving Shea a miniscule fine and no suspension and now this (as well as some of the other recent punishments).

Unlike Mr Shaw, I am going to go put on my Blackhawks sweater and head into the city for tonight's game at the Madhouse...
