Typical Penguins playoff hockey last night. Come out in the first, kick some serious ______, then head to the bar sometime during intermission and don't show back up for the other 40 minutes. Though it will be a tough series with the new rule change, you know, where you are allowed to practically reach the goal line before the puck crosses the blue line without being called offsides.

What a great job by Staal just standing there picking his nose while they reach right around him and pop the puck in. Ah, wake up Jordan, its overtime in game one of the first round of playoffs!

Bruins fan here, signing on (don't everyone gang up on me at once...). Game 1 for my guys tonight. But the playoffs are already going great. Nashville and Detroit playing with real hate. The Kings and 'Nucks playing a game of "You get 1, I get 1" (can't wait til that deteriorates into a 4th grade girls' slap fight). And the Pens blowing a 3-0 lead to the Flyers (as a B's fan, I know how much that stings).

LOTS of sub-plots to these playoffs, and thank you to NBC and NHL network for broadcasting more games, here in the States, than ever before. Playoff hockey is a time unto itself and borders on cult-like.

Here's my predictions:

B's over Caps - 4-2 (BONUS prediction: B's win game 6 (7-1)

Rnagers over Sens - 4-3 (nail biter)
Devils over Panthers - 4-1
Flyers over Pens - 4-3 (minimum of 1 suspension in the series)
Canucks over Kings - 4-2
Sharks over Blues - 4-2 (too bad. I liked the Blues' Cinderella story)
Hawks over Coyotes - 4-0 (only sweep of the 1st rd)
Preds over Wings - 4-3 (BEST series of the 1st round)

UGH Don't remind me that we extended that stupid head! He can't tell the difference from his head and his bum let alone run a hockey team. I'm thoroughly convinced we'd be in the playoffs with a half-competent coach. I am FURIOUS!

I even tried to get everyone together for a "Fire Sacco" picket in front of the Pepsi Center. No one came

And I can not BELIEVE Weber only got a fine for what he did to Zetterberg. I HATE THE WINGS more than anything in the world and am a Weber fan, but that was dirty and has no part in hockey.

Blues are definitely my #1 playoff team this year! They're perennially in my top five favorite teams and I love seeing those classic teams come back to relevance! And although I LOVE Johnson and McClemment and would do that trade every day over again, I miss Shattenkirk (could care less about Stewart, was never a fan, really)! So I hope they do well (and I was born in St. Louis so I kind of have to)

Also, I'm still bitter about 2009 so I don't root for the Sharks

Sam I agree with you on all your predictions except for the Flyers vs Pens and Panthers vs the Devils.

In my pool I have Rangers winning the cup over Vancouver.
In my heart I have Vancouver winning the cup over Ottawa. I can't help it I want to see an all Canadian Stanley cup final one of these years.

The guy I hate the most in the NHL...Gary Bettman I can't stand to even look at the guy on TV.

The guy I like the most...Don Cherry! I have most of his DVDs read his books a couple of times each and have a life sized cardboard cutout of him in my man cave.

I'm with you on both of these counts. I hate how Bettman caters to the whiners and I love how Cherry is so passionate about everything hockey (coaching the B's to a Stanley Cup doesn't hurt either )

Hi Jenny! No surprise, I COMPLETELY agree with everything here
Hoping for the Flyers to beat the Penguins in that series because
1) I'd MUCH rather my beloved NYR play the Flyers eventually than the Penguins if it comes to that (since they have been unstoppable against the Flyers)
2) I haaaaaaaaaaaate Crosby more than any other sports figure ever.

I'd much rather play the Flyers too. The Rangers owned them this year. I know, I know the playoffs are a completely new season but...I still think the Rangers would win. They're in the Flyers heads.

I hate Brodeur more than Crosby but when Brodeur retires, Crosby will be number one on my hate list. On the radio yesterday they were talking about what a dirty team the Pens are but act like they're the golden children of the NHL. I used to have no problems with them because I loved Lemieux and they sucked for so long but now I freakin can't stand them.

And for the sake of the city of Vancouver, I hope the Nucks don't go to another final and lose (unless of course it's to the Rangers, 1994 repeat anyone?). They went crazytown last year and I'm surprised Luongo is still in one piece.
