This trip to Florida will be a 14 day trip and I know we will not have enough ice cubes for my daily pop drinking. We were told that you can't really use ice cube trays because the ice cubes don't really freeze. The last big trip by the time we got the ice back to the camper it had melted some and all you had left were huge chunks of ice. So what do you do for big trips and ice cubes? Thanks everyone.

Bring lots of quarters and a couple of foam coolers. Each loop has its own (expensive) ice machine near the comfort stations. The foam will keep the ice from melting. If you have a car, go off own to Walmart and get a big enough supply.

This is just one topic you can't talk enough about. Frozen water.

 There are freezers that don't make ice? I put ice trays in mine and they freeze...do you mean as the refrigerator gets old it will stop freezing?

I have problems with mine freezing stuff on the top rack of the refrigerator.

Being the freezers are so small it's hard to make large amounts of ice at a time, one thing that helps is keeping water in the frig or a cooler to fill the ice trays. This way there is less of a warming effect on the freezer.

:) True, the freezers are small, and when I make ice I only put in 2 ice trays at a time. The fridge part is small too, and a jug of water takes up space, but that sounds like a good idea. It just wouldn't work for us though, there's 5 of us, so we have to prioritize whay we can put in the fridge at any one time :thumbsup2

I bought an extra freezer shelf and have two in the middle about 1 1/2 inch apart and put one tray in there in the back and it freezes fine.

In addition to our standard 6 to 7cu ft refer/freezer I got one of the 75lb 12V/110V Norcold refer/freezer (just for extra frozen stuff and it's about 1.5 cu ft.) and also take a good ice chest along it needed when we stock up on fresh veggies and things like a head of cabbage or lettuce and have the refer full. We do carry a lot of frozen stuff and our trips are much longer (40 to 60 days) than just a short week or so. DW loves making a bunch of the sauces/etc. and freezing them flat in zip locks so it's much easier to fix more complicated dishes like Lasagna, etc. We take taco mix, chili mix, pizza sausage, cheese mixes and frozen bacon/breakfast sausages all made pre cooked at home and all the Italian type sauces in the ziplocks.

I'm a bit confussed here, exactly what are you using to freeze your water. A certain brand of fridge/freezer in your camper, the fridges in the cabins, a dorm fridge at your tent site. :confused3
