Let's talk High School Football playoffs!!

So, who else is in the midst of high school football???

WE ARE!!

Iowa High School Football Championships will be played this weekend at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls.

Our school, Iowa City Regina, is 13 - 0 and top ranked in Class 2A. We are not only unbeaten, but we also beat our arch-rivals, the Solon Spartans, earlier this year for their only loss, and they are playing for the Class 3A championship!

We have beaten all the other teams in our class by at least 28 points. We have gone to the continuous clock (in Iowa, if a team leads by 35 points or more in the second half, the clock is not stopped except after scores and for time outs) and put in our reserves for every one of those games.

Now, only one more game to go!!

Yes, we are well represented in the football finals, with Iowa City High in the 4A finals, Solon in the 3A finals, and Iowa City Regina in the 2A finals!

Hope they all win!

Our high school is playing in the state championship game tomorrow (for the 3rd year in a row). We've had a 13-0 season.

Not this year for us.

We won the state championship in our division in 2006. It was so much fun! The Girl Scout troops in town decorated shop windows. Everywhere you went around town, you caught Buc's fever.

The volunteer fire department goes to all their home games throughout the year. After we won the championship at Giants Stadium, they escorted the school buses back to town, sirens screaming. The next weekend, we threw them a ticker tape parade.

It was really thrilling! Good luck to your teams, Deb and Sarah. Hope you guys have as much fun as we did in '06.

Our boys lost their second playoff game so we are done for the season.

Our boys lost in the 2nd sectional game, which was expected. We haven't been good in about 5-6 years but we have a new coach and are improving. Looking forward to next year.

I know you were talking about football and good luck to your team!!!! I'm sure it is exciting. However, our wrestling team should make it to the state finals for the 5th-6th year in a row. We are a wrestling school.

BTW - I've been to the UniDome a few times for wrestling. Nice place!!!

I'm still crying over our boys' loss last week. We won our division and lost in regionals, not a bad season by any standard, but no Ford Field state finals this year.

On the bright side, most of the team is juniors so next year will be a good one. And next year my son will be playing for a school team for the first time (only 7th grade, but with 3 years of youth ball under his belt), so my high school football watching years are just getting started.

We are in the semi-finals tomorrow night. We are 12-0! Beat our rivals too! If we win tomorrow night, we are going for our 7th straight State Championship! Our guys are awesome football players and it is sooo exciting! Tomorrow night we are honoring Randall Cobb who is a former player/graduate and plays for UK and will most likely go pro next year! Go Tornadoes!!!!!

Our other local team is also in the semi finals. I believe they won 5 straight state championships. Lost last year in the final and have an excellent chance at winning this year! Go Rebels!!

Deb, Hunter is a JR and does athletic training and the first school mentioned. If they win, she'll receive her 3rd straight state championship ring!

This is the first year in 16 years together that hubby's team didn't make it to the playoffs. Very strange to have him home this time of year. He has 5 championship rings in my jewelry box, so he can't complain.

My BIL is an athletic Trainer in SC and this is his school's first time not going in years. I wish they were coming home for Thanksgiving. Never have because of football.

My old high school, Chantilly High School in Northern Virginia, is in the playoffs again this year. In the 2004 season, we lost EVERY game we played. 2 years later, we made it to state finals. This year they made it to playoffs again. And last week they beat our biggest rivals (and this rival school can get very violent as well). So this week they are playing in the northern region semi-finals.

This is awesome...except for the fact that if they make it to state finals it is dec 11th!!!! And Virgnia in Dec. is cooooolllllllddddd. I think my senior when we made it to state finals it was like 35 degrees when they played.

Bev, you probably know that Iowa is a HUGE wrestling state, with the legendary Dan Gable having been the longtime coach at Iowa, and now with Tom Brands taking over.

What school do your kids attend? My husband is from Indy and was a wrestler in high school at Pike High in Indianapolis. We actually attended their football championship game a few years ago, when they played (and got beat by) Carmel in the RCA Dome just before it was taken down.

How can the time go so quickly???

I so much miss HS football playoffs. It's been a few years but our entire fall revolved around it! Good luck to all your teams (kids)! The only thing I don't miss is the cold, major cold weather for the final games.

That's why I'm glad we play the Iowa football semifinals and finals in a nice, warm, domed stadium!!

DS is in marching band at Pearland HS. I was hoping that by now we might *finally* have a weekend that didn't have a football game and/or marching competition going on, but the 11-0 football team in all their awesomeness is in the playoffs. So marching goes on! It's all good, it's an exciting time. The band went to State last month -- here's hoping the football team does too! The State championship is going to be at Cowboy Stadium -- at least some great football will finally be played there!

Next playoff is tomorrow -- go Oilers!!
