Let's talk H&V for Breakfast...

I admit it. This restaurant doesn't appeal to me AT ALL. I'd rather eat shards of glass than eat the character meal here. And yet, here I am contemplating it to the point that I went ahead and made an ADR for the time I'd need before that time is snatched up. ::sigh::

Traveling with DH, DD(15), DD's BFF(15), DS(6), Myself, MIL and FIL.

DS knows who the characters are and might enjoy it, but I just see the characters as being just a bit younger than his age group. BUT, I can totally see him wanting to stand in line for pics with Handy Manny and the Little Einsteins. So, that WOULD save us time waiting in line.

We have to eat anyway. I originally thought we'd eat at Captain's Grill and then head over in time for rope drop, but eating at H&V for breakfast would have us in the park at rope drop and maybe not having to fight the hoards of people at that exact moment.

What do y'all think? Am I going to be happy with this experience? I've read the reviews, but how bad can you really mess up breakfast? I guess I just really want someone to tell me what to do. ::sigh::

If my youngest was 6 I'd probably skip it. It's on our list for this fall since I'll have a 4 yr old and almost 3 yr old. My 5 year old knows the characters and would be happy to meet them, but its not a MUST for her.

I thought the same thing as you, how bad could breakfast be? It was terrible. I'd skip it entirely.

We thought the breakfast food was pretty good. (lunch and dinner - NO). DS5 had fun dancing with Agent Oso and Handy Manny. I'm not sure about age 6.

I'd go again for breakfast to get in the park early before it opens -- good photo opportunities on the way to the restaurant. But morning is a good time to get things done at HS before it gets crowded. An hour for breakfast is a lot of that precious park time to give up.

But when we were there... Handy Manny did greets outside of Animation Studios... not sure about Agent Oso, didn't see him outside but might have missed him.

Breakfast at H&V has a smaller selection than some other buffets, but Mickey waffles are Mickey waffles. You can make your own breakfast burrito which is unique. It is definitely a step below, but is certainly fine for anyone who thinks Mickey waffles are acceptable fare.

The single best reason to go there is you get to avoid the rope drop crowd and get to the front. You are 200 feet in front of everyone, and while you fast walk toward Toy Story it is a huge advantage especially if you have younger kids. Eventually the crowd does catch up to you, but it isn't as insane. You are paying for a mediocre breakfast and a 5 minute Toy Story wait.

My son is 6.5 and LOVES the characters there! He was very excited when he found out that they'd changed the characters to people he knew.

And we found the food to be tasty. Now, we're vegetarian so our choices at buffets are rather limited, but they had real maple syrup that they brought out to us (DS and DH cannot have the corn syrup stuff), they had tasty eggs and cheesey grits, and some sort of no-meat cheesey casserole thing... DS loved his pancakes and eggs, too. Sure, it was expensive, but it made our tummies happy and made DS happy too!

I've been reading good reviews of H & V lately...DS and DD LOVE Oso which is why I went ahead and booked it. Like you said, you are going to have to eat anyway and if you think your DS is going to stand in line for pics with the characters anyhow then you are killing time as well. I say do it!

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're taking a couple of preschool/kindergarten aged kids. I did it with my kids and they were at the age that they LOVED those characters but were terrified of the life size versions. It was so loud...like any other character breakfast with the kid volume amped up by 10....

I would say do ANY other character breakfast and your DS would throughly enjoy it just as much as H&V...and everyone else would enjoy that one too ;)

we had a really good breakfast here in november. it was just me and my fiance--no kids. we wanted a hollywood studios breakfast and to be honest, we were really pleased. we will be returning in the future.

H&V isn't always open prior to park opening, apparently. For our dates, it seems the first ADR is 9:05

I was able to get 8:00 ADRs for our June trip.

Okay, I think I'll keep the ADR. I'm still not excited about it, but it's before park opens and might save some time. And, at 6, ds might enjoy it still.

It's breakfast... I bet DS6 will enjoy it. Below is a link to my review... and it has a link to a video of my DS5 dancing with Oso.

For my next trip... where I eat in Hollywood Studios will depend on how many days I'm there, probably 1 1/2. For the Fantasmic package, we will definitely do Brown Derby... and 50s Prime Time is a must do for lunch another day.

It will be interesting if the characters at Hollywood and Vine continue to change.

Thanks for the review - ALL of the reviews! I'm going to keep it. I'm still not excited about it, but I'm hoping it might be fun to see my son get a bit more involved. He's rather shy at first but, with his big sister and her BFF there, they might encourage him to get up and dance. He'd enjoy that if he tried it.
