Lets talk about our teenagers!

My lads have been good so far.

Eldest 17 who now has a full time career has come home drunk twice. He has rescued drunken female friends and taken them for stomach pumping on a few occasions.

Youngest, 15, drinks occasionaly, I have no problems with that.

Neither lad has done narcotics nor has any desire

oh....and both lads know where the condom drawer is (prophylactics) and have been told that they are never counted ;)

I love my lads, I love my Mrs, and I love my life.......and no...I dont love jesus :cool1:

My lads would like to know if they could come live with you.

I'm just curious - what is the drinking age in the UK?

Also, do you think that the society you live in has a generally more "open" view on teens behavior, ie drinking, sex etc?

Personally, I think we in the US are a little uptight about it

Legal age to drink wine, beer, cider or perry with a sit down meal in a restaurant is 14. I think under the same circumstances it is legal to purchase from aged 16.

Legal age to buy liquor of any type in a bar is 18 but rural pubs, bars and hotels often do not id teenagers even tho' we have the 'looks 21 rule'. We have no official form of age id in the UK anyway and most kids do not have a driving licence.

My eldest has been served whiskey and beer in local hotels from the age of 16 with few problems.

Teenage sex, what can I say, I would prefer that my boys were in a loving and stable relationship before adding to the spiritual burden with a physical relationship.......but in the UK those days are pretty much in the past for the majority. Smaller social and cutural groups such as Quakers, born again's, Jewish, Muslims will still be safe I think.

I take the view that I would prefer my lads did 'the right thing' and wait to get to know a girl before 'getting to know' a girl, but what can I say? I have done my best to help them to understand how to behave, but if the temptation is too great, I would rather they went to the condom drawer than risk an unwanted pregnancy.

The teenage pregancy rate has gone through the roof in the UK over the last 20 years. Both my lads know girls who have had terminations and in the UK, I think even a girl under 16 can access the morning after pill without parental consent. I do know that at certain pharmacies a doctor's prescription is no longer needed.

I officially have 2 teenagers today. My baby girl is 13 today. She's very excited about turning 13.

Happy Birthday Sam!!

It's time to revive this thread. My ds is starting at the University of South Florida next week. He decided to live at home which is fine with me. I was dreading the day that he would move out. I know the day will come but I'll deal with that when the time comes. We haven't had the "I'm 18, I can do what I want" attitude. All I ask is that he helps out around the house, pays his car insurance and lets me know if he's going out or if he will be late getting home. After all I'm still his mommy and I would worry if I didn't know that he was safe.

DD is starting her freshman year in high school. She's very excited and a little anxious. She is playing trumpet in marching band so that helps with the anxiety part. She is also part of a medical magnet at school. It's like a school within a school. She'll work towards a nursing degree in high school.

Very exciting times at my house.

So, what are your teens up to?

So, what are your teens up to?

Aw, I'm starting to see many teens that my boys played with going off to college this year. And so it begins.

Mine just starts Jr. year. He has struggled in school forever, but this year he starts Vo Tech for IT Networking. I'm very excited for him and I hope that this will get him somewhat more enthusiastic about school.

My 13 year old has MUCH more of an attitude than the other one ever did. And since he is my "baby" it is much harder for me to take. But even though he is so much smarter than me, he still likes to hang out with me. This summer we go to breakfast together, take daytrips together. He's still my little buddy. But not for long, I know.

My DD13 is continuing dance this year (she's been dancing since she was 7). She did, however, find out that this year they'll be really stepping up the practicing and rehearsing, and have TWO nights a week as opposed to the ONE night it's been up 'til now. She's kind of freaking out about it, but I think she'll be okay because she loves dance SOOOO much. I'm not reallylooking forward to the extra gas cost, but it's worth it to me. :)

She's still "dating" the same boy she started seeing last October, which kind of blows my mind. They're both 13, in fact their birthdays are about 2 weeks apart, and I never, ever thought that this would go ON for so LONG! Luckily I like the kid, and he's EXTREMELY good to my daughter, so it's not putting very much added stress on me ;) His brother on the other hand... :headache: He's about 2 weeks away from 16 years old, and has absolutely NO concept of what's inappropriate in a conversation! Some of the things I've heard come out of his mouth :sad2: We're hoping he grows up soon, other than the junk coming out of his mouth he's actually a good kid and a VERY good brother.

My daughter just started her Senior year of high school. I'm so proud of her and so not ready. Where did my little girl go?

She is still not well. In the last four weeks she has had an MRI, Spinal Tap, numerous Cat Scans, many other tests and more blood work than you can imagine and still no diagnosis. She started out by running a temp which rose as time went on. Bad headaches followed for a couple of weeks but they have gone away now. The fever is still with her but only 100 degrees or so now. She has an elevated heart rate. She also has elevated liver function and a slightly enlarged spleen and liver.

None of the tests show anything. It is not H1N1, Mono, West Nile, Leukemia, Lymphoma, and a whole list of other things, thank goodness, but they still don't know what it is.

Other than being sick she is good. Good grades, nice boy friend, still a good kid.

My DD is 14 years old and will start her Freshman year of high school on September 2nd. We're very excited because she was accepted into an agricultural high school. She is interested in veterinary medicine but will be exposed to a host of interesting career choices starting out. This school does have a veterinary technician program, as well as canine sciences, equine sciences, bovine sciences, marine biology, forestry, dog grooming, and so forth. During the summers she participates in a flute symphony at a local conservatory, and she takes golf lessons. Her first love (for sports) is softball, though. She is our only child and I find this point in her life to be occassionally challenging, but overall an awful lot of fun. She and I are still very close and I love having her around.

LucyAnne Hope your DD is on the mend soon - sending thoughts and get well prayers your way.

Teens - well today DD :littleangel: turns 11 so she is like technically an official tween (according to her). She and I have grown much closer in the year her brother was away at college. I still don't quite get her but I'm learning;)

DS - oh I had to cut a few more apron strings this week:sad1: He spent last school year in a dorm, was home for 6 weeks at Christmas and has been home since the first week of May for summer - honestly, I am soooo ready for him to return to school. Love him, miss him but he is making me crazy. (school is only 8 miles away)
He returned to school 2 days ago, this year we opted for off campus student housing. More freedom, full kitchen, individiual room and bath with a shared common area. The housing is a 12 month lease so he won't be coming home for 6 weeks in Dec. and next summer. I am struggling with that a little.
I stepped into his disaster of a bedroom on Wednesday after he and a couple of buddies moved the bed out and it made me sad. The mess he thinks he is leaving behind made me madder:headache:

He and I have a date on Sunday to stock his pantry, get his school supplies etc.

His first year of college was everything he/we hoped for and dreaded at the same time.....he dumped his long time girly friend:yay:, he discovered alcohol and girls:headache: he made some bad decisions in regards to time management and is repeating 1 course at his expense this semester because of it. Oh well as DH said we sent him to college for a lot of reasons not just what can be found in a text book. He made some new friends from all over the country and could hardly wait for them all to return this week.

Glad you are all doing well and surviving your teens!

We are in the middle of a year of lasts!!
Both girls have gone to the last first day of school at their respective schools (Senior and an 8th grader). The senior is in the middle of her last band season. I see a ton of tears in my future.

My girls and I have had a long long last year...with no true end in sight...and they are great girls.
