Let's talk about Jamaica excursions!

I couldn't find a thread devoted to just this topic, so thought I would start one. We are on the 10/11/14 Western with a stop in Falmouth. Would love to hear any reviews of Jamaica excursions, what people are planning on booking, etc. Also, if you didn't book anything but just got off the ship and explored, let us know about that, too!

Please include the ages of your family, what you booked, your thoughts, advice, etc. Since this is a fairly new stop for DCL, it is harder to find info on port excursions and Falmouth in general.

Can't wait to start planning!

We are on the same cruise from PC 10/11/114 sail date with a 13 yr old daughter and travelling with friends with 3 kids all teenagers. We too would like suggestions on port excursions in Jamaica. We looked at the Blue Hole but not offered thru Disney cruise lines. What do people recommend for this port (either thru DCL or another tour company)?

Nothing is decided yet, but we were thinking of the DCL "18th Century Great House and Plantation Tour with Lunch". Anyone have experience with this one?
This is what we have booked for our cruise in late summer. I haven't seen any reviews, just chose it cuz the whole family seemed the most interested in this option.

Starting to look more seriously at the excursion choices for our 10/11 sailing. I see that many of the excursions include Dunn's River Falls. I'd like to think I could handle the climb, but being of short leg and stiff hip, I doubt that's realistic. So... has anyone done any of the tubing or kayaking? We'd like to find something different,a little active but not overly strenuous. I am hoping a few more choices pop up on the list between now and when we can choose.

Has anyone rented a driver and headed towards Montego Bay? Worth the trip? Anyone have experience there?

Thanks.....

We are doing the same thing in 5 weeks, I'll be sure to post a report on this thread. I can hardly wait for it, looks like so much fun.

We're also on the 10/11/14 sailing!

We've booked all of our excursions already. We like to go off the beaten path so we booked private tours. For our stop in Jamaica we're hopping over to Ocho Rios to do some sight seeing, lunch at Scotchies and shopping. Can't wait!

ETA: Sorry folks, I meant to say Ocho Rios, not Montego Bay.

Please tell me more about your plans for Montego Bay. What I read here is exactly what we would like to do. :thumbsup2

Many thanks....

We basically had a private car & driver for the day. Courtney picked us up at Falmouth around 8am. We had pre-arranged to go swimming at the Blue Hole, then lunch at Scotchies, and ended with a bit of time at the beach before heading back to the port (around 2:30/3). It's about a 40 minute drive from Ochie to Falmouth. I think the whole day cost us about $150. Well, not including lunch.

Here's the links to the Jamaica part of my trip report for photos.

It was the best day of our cruise and we had a fantastic cruise, so that's saying a lot :cool1:

How did you find the private driver?? THis day sounds fantastic to me.

We are also on the Oct 11 sailing of the Fantasy :wave2: We are doing the Irie Blue Hole ...can't wait!!!!:thumbsup2

We are doing the western caribbean on the Fantasy in August of 2015. I have to say I'm not that excited about The Jamaican excursions and it seems there are several other people who feel the same. I'm wondering if maybe Disney should try to find an alternate port to visit in the future. I know there are a lot of people who like Jamaica and I respect their opinions. I'm not trying to offend anyone. It's just my opinion.

I have to agree that the excursions offered are not exciting us. I am glad we are going to Jamaica, just not happy with excursion options. It's in Disney's best interest to up the options for things to do... don't they get a cut? More options, more money.

Maybe they'll realize how many leave the ship vs how many book their options. When the do the math, I believe it would change.

Recommendations from another website :) And fantastic reviews on Tripadvisor. We way preferred being able to set our own schedule, with lots of flexibility for changing on the fly :)

Could I PM you for more info later on?

We are sailing in July and I'm having a hard time deciding what to do.

My DD12 is disabled and in a wheelchair. She obviously won't be able to climb Dunns River Falls, but we still may want to go. We are taking our babysitter, so she can stay with her at the base of the falls.

Some of the excursions say they can handle a wheelchair, others say they do not. Her chair is manual and folds up. I'm thinking getting a private driver may be the best way to go. I'm not sure if the area around Ocho Rios and the Falls is wheelchair-friendly, however.

I also considered doing the Martha Brae rafting, but think my other two kids may be bored by it.
