Did Krispy Kreme take marketing lessons from Homer Simpson? I recall his "Shotguns for bowling" ad campaign didn't go well.

I expect this one won't go well either.......that whole find a wedge issue and alienate half of your potential market......hard to see an upside......

beyond watching the humorless joy of the flagellants as they bite into their free donut and celebrate the absence of over 40 million Americans.......I dunno.......don't see the appeal.

This gives me an idea.......

How about, "everyone who likes babies wear clothes on Inauguration Day"!

I am thinking the response will be overwhelmingly in my favor.

Honestly, this is just beyond ridiculous. Some people have far too much free time.

So, in case you hadn't heard, Krispy Kreme is giving away free donuts on Inauguration day. Press release:
"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. (NYSE: KKD) is honoring American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies -- just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet 'free' can be."

Apparently the "American Life League" is very unhappy with the word choice of Krispy Kreme and had this to say:

"The next time you stare down a conveyor belt of slow-moving, hot, sugary glazed donuts at your local Krispy Kreme, you just might be supporting President-elect Barack Obama's radical support for abortion on demand - including his sweeping promise to sign the Freedom of Choice Act as soon as he steps in the Oval Office, Jan. 20."

I mean, really, are you kidding me? I get that people have their beliefs, and I may not agree etc, etc. But I think these folks are reading just a smidge too much into this.
