DCL has been around for four years now, and over the course of our 23 cruises, we've seen a LOT of changes. Let's play "Remember when..." and see what changes everyone has noticed. I'll start off with a couple:
Remember when there used to be two Guest Services counters? One was in the present location, and the other was where the shore excursion desk is now?
Remember when they used to have the fiber optic paintbrushes and sparklers in Animators Palate, and the Mickey Mousse dessert that you "painted" with sauces?
Remember when the menu at Triton's used to be primarily fish?
Remember when the Rockin' Bar D was rock music half the time and country music the other half?
Remember when they used to have improv comedy instead of dueling pianos?
Remember when the documents used to come in the little suitcase-type holder?
Anyone have any others?

I want to play toobut I haven't been on my 2nd cruise yet. My first was a 3 day in 3/2000 and I remember most of the things you mentioned....but....I assume that most of them no longer happen. I'm actually looking forward to the dueling pianos though! I'll chime in when I return from our 9/22 cruise

ooohh, I thought of one!

Remember when you had to stand on a long, long, long line to reserve your shore excursions?

I was so happy to do this beforehand!

I have a remember when.

On our first cruise - a 3 day Magic in Oct. 1999 - there were a group of DCL employees in the Lobby standing around the Mariner Mickey statue singing to the passengers as they came on board. On our other 2 cruises (Magic -May 2001 and Wonder-May 2002) it was just the welcome the ______ family announcement nothing more.

I don't remember when anything except the document suitcase package. How do the documents come now? Our last cruise was in January and I thought we had a suitcase. I almost certain of it.

I wish I could play.

only 3 cruises under our belts

Remember when...

You used to get a card on your bed every night with a different saying and a beautiful vintage picture.

I loved those and missed them on our last cruise.

Debbie

Now this, I remember. On our last two cruises, we didn't get the cards. I liked those silly cards. It was a little extra touch.

Mine in January and May came in what looks like a "suitcase." It's brown with little "hinge" designs on the back, and travel graphics on it for CC, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Bahamas.

Oooh, fun, and I "remember when" all of those! :)

I'll do a couple of easy ones:

Remember when the beautiful view at Palo was WASTED during the day, before they added brunch and high tea on the 7-night cruises?

Remember when the "Chakra Balancing Capsule" at the spa used to be the Alpha Capsule, and they had cool lights on the headset that you could see behind closed eyes? (Before they supposedly triggered an eplipeptic seizure in someone and they discontinued the light part of the treatment....)

I'm sure I'll think of some more! :)

Remember when Scoops used to serve handpacked icecream instead of soft serve?

Remember when Capt. Hans was your captain?

Has anyone ever heard the real reason why he is no longer with DCL?

I'll play.....on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic back on 7/30/98

remember when there was no cruise director

remember when there was no A/C for the first two days

remember when there was no adult activities after dark

remember when there was no great deck parties....

remember when they had hard-pack ice cream at scoops

remember when there was no midnight dessert buffet

remember when some dopey kids filled the hot tub by the goofy pool with laundry detergent - creating a lava like flow of foaming bubbles all over the deck!

Although I feel very grateful to have been on the Maiden Voyage of the Magic and many things went wrong, things have gotten so very much better since then. DCL has certainly got their sea legs and their act together. Yes, there is always room for improvement, but they are certainly one of the cruise industry innovators and I for one will always come back to the Magic.

Remember when....
There was no 7 day cruise? Only 3 or 4 day....
Scoops was only open a few hours each afternoon? The lines were huge.

I remember most of those things except the paintbrush things at AP. We see them in the video, but never had them, not even in April 1999.
Someone please fill me in: What happened to Capt. Hans? He was our capt. last October?

Here are some Remember Whens that I really miss...

- Real ice cream at Scoops

- guest chefs from WDW for Art of Entertaining series

- the improv at OffBeat...Dueling Pianos pales in comparison...no, there is no comparison

- the Castaway Club shipboard credit

- Fall Fantasy/Sprintime Magic rates

I think the Castaway Club shipboard credit is something DCL definitely needs to bring back! It's fine to require first-time DCL cruisers to re-book while onboard, but what about those of us who re-book one more while aboard, then get home and book several more (like Barb and, to a much lesser degree, myself)? It seems to me that what the new policy does is reward those who make a single re-booking in a year, and punish those who book multiple cruises throughout the year but don't happen to make them all while on the ship. JMHO, but I had to say that, when you mentioned the CC shipboard credit!

Remember when ---

The Returning Cruisers party was held in the small (Cadillac) Lounge? Last May it was in the whole lounge area and we had over 800 invited guests!

Remember when you drove to the Port , you used to be able to park your car in front of the terminal??. Such a beautiful parking lot but it is waste of space now.

Remember when they used to serve chicken fingers at the snack bar by the kiddie pool? Now they only have hot dogs and hamburgers. The chicken fingers were soooo good!
