I think it is order in because when you go out to eat you are "Eating out" but when a delivery man brings the food to your house you are "Eating In" I think....I always wondered that too.

Same as calling work to say your not coming in. I call in not out.

Around here it's"take-out", but I'm not sure why it couldn't be "bring-in"

We get "carry out" as I'm too cheap to pay for delivery.

Along the same lines, DH and I have the "curtain" debate all of the time. When you pull the curtain across the window, are you opening or closing them?

We order out if we're picking it up and bringing it home. We order in if it's getting delivered.

to eat- in...and then there is car side pick up, where YOU go-out, but THEY carry in....
