Diser's know that some CMs watch these threads, so I thought we might keep track of any room issues, encountered upon check-in.
Date of Check-in:
Resort:
Room Type/Number:
Issue(s):
Any offered compensation:
I'll start.
Date of Check-in:1-28-14
Resort:AKL-Jambo
Room Type/Number:Value Studio/5014
Issue(s):No paper plates/bowls and utensils. Missing bag for send out laundry. Used bar of soap left in the upper soap tray of the shower.
Any offered compensation:Do a full cleaning of the bathroom - tomorrow. Brought us the laundry bag, paper plates, and utensils - no bowls.

I had a similar incident at AKV Jambo in Aug... I'll need to find the room numbers.

Studio #1 - pillow case was torn and blood stained. Reported next morning, as I didn't notice until we were heading to bed after a long day at the park... Ewww. Just tossed it in the hall area. ... Then woke in the middle of the night worried the sheets hadn't been changed since prior guests! Stripped the bed and slept on towels...

Offered new linens.

Studio #2 (MIL's room)- shampoo bottles, wash cloths and soap still in shower. Towels hanging on back of door. Food in fridge.

Offered a full cleaning.

After having issues with both rooms, we were comped $50 for dinner.

As an owner at AKV I'm very worried about my investment. I was always bragging about ALV, now it is the last place my inlaws want to stay :-(

It really was a dreadful homecoming...

Why not just notify Maintenance, Housekeeping or the Front Desk of your problem and get if fixed before you leave?

I notified housekeeping and the Front Desk as soon as I noticed the issues. This is multiple times at AKL that I have had issues with different rooms at check-in. If multiple people are encounting the same type of issues, then there are larger issues that management needs to deal with.
I do not want to be in a room taking a shower without that room having been cleaned BEFORE I arrive. With the soap left in the bathroom from the pervious guest, I am not sure that it was cleaned.

Exactly! I informed the desk immediately upon noticing the bathroom issues, etc. Unfortunately the linens were not discovered until after midnight, and at first I just thought it was a pillow case that never should have been put back into the rotation after laundering due to the condition. No big deal, until it occurred to me that perhaps the linens hadn't been laundered yet!!! Ewww...
At 2am I'm not waking the kids so housekeeping can change the sheets, so I did what I had to do till morning.

Point is, if people are having consistent housekeeping issues then yes, there may be a larger problem. And the rooms were not made available to us until way after we checked in because they "weren't ready." So when we actually got to our rooms, we assumed they were cleaned.

I would add a section to your list:

Date of Check-in:
Resort:
Room Type/Number:
Issue(s):
Did you contact housekeeping, maintenance, or other (identify), and if so, describe response (problem fixed?, how long till it was fixed?):
Any offered compensation:

While I think the intentions are pure, IMO a thread like this can only do more harm than good. At least in the minds of members.

Assuming this thread grows to dozens of pages and hundreds of posts over an extended period of time, it will still be a very imprecise snapshot of overall resort housekeeping quality. Readers will inevitably form opinions which are not accurate, especially if they fail to weigh factors like the size (there are bound to be a lot more SSR complaints than VGF since SSR is nearly 10 times as large!) and age of each resort.

And I cannot imagine a resort manager or other Disney staffer using this as a resource for uncovering room problems.

Report it to a front desk manager and follow up with an email to DVC. If Disney can't weed-out substandard employees as a result of verbal and written complaints, they aren't going to turn to Internet message boards for help.

My two-cents...

IMO this thread is no different than any rating website. It's up to the reader to decide if they wish to change their travel plans based on reviews.

I also feel that the room issues are greater than reported on these types of websites and that Disney is given a free pass because they are Disney. I know that we have had more than our share of issues and that the more rooms that we stay in, the greater the number of issues.

In addition to posting here, members should send their experience to member satisfaction, dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com so that DVC knows that there was a problem.

I think this thread is a really good idea...

I will need to find the room number on my old laptop.

Date of Check-in: September 18th 2013
Resort: BLT
Room Type/Number: 8.... (will look it up) Studio
Issue(s): just very tired room. Toilet roll holder had been off the wall and been put back on in a different place, old holes exposed. rust stains down the wall and the bath from the handle, the tv bench was all chipped and as its back it was VERY obvious. Stained cushion covers...

Did you contact housekeeping, maintenance, or other (identify), and if so, describe response (problem fixed?, how long till it was fixed?): I didn't bother contacting anyone as we were only there 2 nights and I was sick of complaining (we had 2 issues in AKL before we got to BLT, none of it was room related though), and I HATE complaining with a passion. I did however contact member services after we returned home and told them of the problems and sent pictures. They never replied.
Any offered compensation: no cause we didn't contact them while we were still there. though at least a reply from member services might have been nice :rolleyes2

Seeing the post about possible "used" bedding makes me think that if every guest just stripped their beds/pillows before checking out, this would never be an issue. Maids aren't going to rummage through a heap of dirty laundry on the floor when they can grab a new set of sheets off their cart. We always take the extra 2 minutes necessary to strip beds. This ensures that the guest following us has a better experience. It's just good karma. :goodvibes. The universe must be looking out for me, as we've never encountered used bedding. Gross.

I thought this was just good timeshare edict..

I have always had thoughts that the sheets have not been changed (Disney or Non-Disney Resorts)! My family will often get a studio and use the pull out couch in order to stay longer. I inspect the sheets carefully and always pull off and place on floor at end of stay!

Can't remember exact dates and room numbers, but at BLT and BWV we've had to call housekeeping because some people have a bad habit of walking off with kitchen items. They are usually knocking at our door within 10 minutes with brand new replacements. This is a check-in issue in regard to "guests" that apparently think these things are theirs for the taking just because they aren't tied down. Makes me think they must not be "owners", otherwise they would realize that this behavior costs us money.

Our rooms have been spotless over the last 10 or so stays. I always make sure I let someone know...people tend to forget that a "thanks" is appreciated.

June 16, 2013 Kidani room 7851 1BR
Water on washing machine reversed hot/cold
Informed desk after we left because didn't want maintenence in room while we were gone
Dec 20, 2013 BWV 1001 1BR
Dryer not working; called about 8pm Dec 23; told somebody would be right over. Nobody came until 5 pm next evening, but, new washer/dryer were installed. Maintenance noted that the duct work was full of lint, that probably had never been cleared out
Multiple rooms at Kidani
Safe door broken. Appears to be locked, but will open if given a tug; reported after leaving, because don't want maintenance in room working on the safe while we aren't in it; and don't want to advertise that safe not working; don't want to spend entire vacation in room waiting for service to come

Does this mean I shouldn't take the unused soaps/shampoos with me at the end of my stay? And that it's costing us more money because I do take them? DH can not help himself, we have a whole drawer full.

Whatever they leave you, you can take with you. But if you ask for more, you are supposed to pay for them.

No...I don't think they are allowed to keep unused soaps for the next guest. I am talking about: frying pans; irons; potholders, cookie sheets, pots, hairdryer.

I've noticed the last couple of years that the bar of soaps are much smaller than in previous years....and alot of "extras" are no longer provided. The guidelines somewhere mention "starter packs" for those items, along with the coffee, detergent, etc. There is a price list mounted in the cabinet doors if you request extra before your trash and towel day.

I honestly never thought of stripping the bed when we leave. As a matter of fact we meake the bed and straighten the room. Leaving it like we found it it.

I never thought of this.

We only had one issue with bedding. Many years ago we found a bikini bottm and a towl in the dryer.

Then we noticed that the bed was damp. Seems like the last guest took one last swim or what ever and then got in the bed wet and "took a nap"or something .

Sorry....totally hijacking this thread but just had to comment. After reading a couple of these stories about wet towels on the back of doors and stuff in the dryer, I am wondering if some people sneak back into their rooms after "check out" to shower and stuff...maybe after housekeeping has already done their thing? Not far fetched when you think about it. Ever read "the dark side of disney"?

We always leave the bed unmade and the pull out couch open just so that housekeeping knows they were used. We also run the dishwasher before we go out the door.

Again, sorry. Back to regular programming. Go ahead and post your complaints.
:)
