It's west of the Mississippi and they wear cowboy hats and cowboy boots.

It's west!

I can't see how anyone can look at a map and say Texas is West. It is as middle and as south as you can get.

Because it was the West for a long time. It's only relatively recently that the population of this country has spread out from the east coast.

And it's easy to make the case that it's not a part of the South culturally -- very different from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, etc. in that respect.

I dunno. :confused3 I never thought about it. But they do talk funny. ;)

What is Oklahoma considered to be?

Texas is a state? I should sue the people who made the "Visit Texas" tv ads. I mean, they claim "It's like a whole other country"

Anything West of the Mississippi and below Iowa/Nebraska state lines and above Oaklahoma/New Mexico State lines is considered Midwest out to about Utah

Anything above Iowa/Nebraska is considered North

Anything bewlo Oaklahoma is considered South.

Anything on the pacific including Nevada is considered West

Anything against the Atlantic is considered East (North East/South East)

Oh great. Now I'm confused. Could someone hand me a map? ;)

Texas is it's own separate entity.

Just take a look at the backwards laws, strange attitudes, etc.

For example, did you know if an emergency vehicle is coming and you have to stop on a green light to let it pass that when the light turns RED you can GO because the ambulance made you miss your turn? OK, so maybe it's not an actual law, but it sure is what everybody believes!

Don't even get me started on politics and the politicians who drive them.

Is it that obvious that I'm not FROM Texas originally? ;)

Texas is in a category by itself
Definately. I'm a native Texan and I've never considered myself a southerner but I don't think of myself as western either.

I mean, they claim "It's like a whole other country"
We are!

AGH!!!!! I am a true and orange Longhorn and it drove me crazy that we were in the SouthWEST conference!!

At least you are in the Big 12 now. :rotfl: Congrats to your baseball team, although they beat MY Gators (but I chalk that up to what usually happens when a UF team makes it to the big game).

Thanks :)

Now if only we can get past those darn Sooners in Oct!!! :confused3

As someone who spent a temporary stint in Texas, I can say Texans don't care where anyone else see thems. They believe the an entity all by themselves. And who can blame them. Look at the size of that state.

OMGosh I can't tell you how many times I've see that! :rotfl:

IMNSHO Texas is neither south or west. (incase anyone is counting)

Do people actually think we wear cowboy hats and boots? I've never even been CLOSE to a horse, much less on one! LOL! Boy, stereotypes are so funny.

I think Texas is big enough to have character all of it's own. Those near the border are COMPLETELY diff than those in Dallas, and those in El Paso are MUCH different than those in Tyler. Some parts are VERY stereotypical southern, while others aren't. Just depends on where you are!

Hey if I have to be considered in the South here in Florida, I think you Texans should also be considered in the South. With the exception of the panhandle and Jacksonville North area, there isn't much southern about this state.

When my parents told me we were moving to TX I asked them "how many horses will we get for our car?"

I just KNEW that you couldn't drive cars there and that everyone used horses to get around. I pictured wagons and dirt roads. I knew that everyone had to wear cowboy boots and hats too!! :earboy2:

This was back in '80 and I was 10.
