Let's get organized! Organizing Task #2!

I need some motivation. I don't need to get rid of stuff as much as I need to organize the stuff I have.

We've been good about getting rid of gently loved articles (junk)over the last year or so.

But in the interest of the challenge, I have a lot of paperwork that I have put off doing. If I finish it, it leaves my house. So, before the end of the day today, I'll get it done!

No exciting pictures from me though!

from a 4 bedroom with a den to a 3 bedroom, so we got rid of a lot of stuff before the move.... But I do need to organize. Our garage is pretty full of stuff I'm not sure where to put, and things to store until we buy something bigger. Plus my youngest dd's room shrunk ALOT and she needs some organization for all her stuff.

So I'm in on the organizing, not so much the discarding (but you ever know what I will find out in the garage...LOL!).

I'm in!! I'm a clutterbug, we live in a super tiny house (750 sq. feet - no basement, no garage, no storage area :crowded: with 4 humans and 2 cats). I have the hardest time getting started.

Oh, and we finally bought a new, much bigger house (with storage). It looks like we will be moving the end of Feb or first week of March. I gotta clean, pack up, get this house ready for a renter, and then unpack.

I'm scared. You guys will help get me motivated, won't you?:thumbsup2

I'm so in. I don't really understand what happened - we were living in a 2-bedroom 800 square foot apartment and everything fit fine. Now we're in a 3-bedroom 1250 square foot house and we have no room.

Stuff has got to go!

I'll give it a go. My mom keeps nagging me to get rid of stuff. I have the worst time doing this because when I feel good, I don't want to spend my time cleaning, I want to do fun stuff! And when I feel bad, I'm home sleeping and I don't want to do stuff because I feel like crap (ahhh, the fun of living with chronic disease at 30).

I'll try it. I should have a few days in the next couple of weeks with no sub assignments available (of course, I'm jinxing that by typing it) and I definitely need something to keep me productive around the house instead of just lounging on the boards. I think I'll start with the coat closet.

I started with DDs room lol :thumbsup2
We have a pile for consignment shop (hopefully they will take it, its mostly toys so I am sure they will its clothes that I sometimes have a problem with b/c she may be getting ready for next season already).
Then we have a pile of a few things that she is going to take to my mom's house to play with when we go there.
Then an "attic" pile to be stored away
And then a garbage pile

I just can't get this stuff moved b/c of the snow :rotfl:

I cant wait to see pictures of "discard piles".

I'm in. A couple of months ago I cleaned out a big closet (think 5' X 5') we have that sort of gathers junk. There was stuff in there from DD23's senior year of HS! I threw out 5 huge garbage bags of stuff. And the closet is full again!!! I also need to get busy with the shredder for old OLD papers I have hanging around.

Going to go look for 50 things for my pile now.....:woohoo:

I start this last year and it has been great. I need to start again with my desk. It got point I was donting so much the person new me by name. LOL

Done!

I purged old christmas stuff as I took the tree down today.

Old ornaments that had no sentimental value - GONE!
Outdoor Christmas lights that will never go up - GONE!
Old lights for the tree - GONE!!

Also 4 empty boxes, an old booster seat, outdoor ornaments for a tree we are going to cut down, fake pumpkins from previous years pumpkin contests, and a hodge podge of other stuff. I probably got well over 50 things!!

Tonight is trash night so some stuff is going to the curb but as soon as the weather is better we are getting a dumpster.
I'll take all the goodwill stuff on Monday.

I'm in. I think i have about 15 items in my pile . But Iwas planning on having a yardsale in March so Can i still play? The OP post said items to rid rid of in a few weeks.

I can't wait to see some of the other challenges

Ok, I did this BEFORE Christmas but am still willing to take a pat-on-the-back for it!!

cleaned out my clothes closet...and showed NO MERCY!! ;)

I've cleaned it out before, but started to heehaw on certain items. This time it was a full-out purge! I finally had room to hang things AND room to spare.

I sold it all on Craigslist as a lot. Didn't want to mess around with all pants/all one size/etc listings. Sold it all for $50. Not much for the amount of stuff I got rid of but much better than any other alternative at the time.

Good luck to everyone else!

I went through the Christmas stuff that I didn't use this year and discarded a large bag, and threw out any Christmas lights that were lying around. When I un-decorate, I'll organize it all!

We'll be down-sizing in a few months, so cleaning out is essential!

Another one I did yesterday: I have a huge pile of greeting cards - some with envelopes, some without. I went through them all, and got rid of most of them. I kept the nice stationery, birthday cards that had matched envelopes. I even had a pile of cards that I have received - those went into a seperate pile to keep.

When you get rid of stuff, where are you getting rid of it? I don't want to be having to list some on ebay, some on craigslist, haul some to the Salvation Army, find homes for other stuff, and throw out other.

Just back from the post office where I mailed a friend an electronic device & all its accessories. We no longer used it & she had use for it. Gone.

Just before Christmas, I did the same with an older iPod Touch & an older laptop. Gone to friends who had use & desire for them.

Felt good to see them get a little use out of them before declaring them trash.

Goodwill or trash, that's it. I don't have time to deal with ebay and craigslist.

I used to take stuff to the school but as we helped the art teacher clean out his room it was apparent that the teachers in my school are hoarders. He had stuff in his room that I remember when I went there in the mid 80's.

Good job! but be careful asking for a pat on the back is considered really terrible by some here.;)

Ironically, that's exactly what I plan to do - as long as I get the go-ahead from my doctor on Monday..

There are two areas in the basement here at DD's that are designated as "mine".. One has a door on it (the other room is "open") and a couple of years ago my Dson-in-law turned the one with the door into a makeshift craft/scrapbook room for me with counter tops, cabinets, etc., that the former owners left here in the attic..

The "open" room is my catch-all for "do I really need to keep this or not" stuff - and of course, boxes of books.. Everything is in totes, but I know there is quite a bit of stuff in there I don't need..

When I leave for the lake this spring, my Dson-in-law is going to turn both areas into a huge craft/scrapbook room for me - with a pocket door to enter through - and will be approximately 30 feet long and 18 feet wide.. One day he had to fill in for a supervisor on one of their job sites (he normally works in the office).. It was a dental firm (not even 3 years old) that sold the building to a real estate firm.. They wanted everything out - just put it in dumpsters or whatever and get rid of it.. Well - there were 18 gorgeous white cabinets (wall and base) - two 24ft sections of dark charcoal flecked counter top - and enough overhead flourescent lights to light up a football field..LOL.. He immediately thought of the room he was going to build for me, got the okay from the real estate firm and his boss, and snatched them all up.. Honestly, everything looks brand new! :thumbsup2

So - to make it easier for him to work while I'm gone to the lake, I want to clear out as much stuff as I can downstairs in my open area.. (Would love to tackle the attic too, but it's waaaay too cold up there!)

Can't promise any photos - never learned how to get them to the DIS - but I'm hoping to make some major progress so he will have less stuff to move when he starts this big project..

Oh - and I always "organize" on NYE.. I go through my filing cabinet, throw out what I don't need anymore, file what I do need, and gather up whatever info I might need for my income taxes..;)

I'm one of those weird people that actually likes to organize.. I think it's fun!! :goodvibes

OP, are you getting rid of 50 army items first?;) If I could convince my husband that he can no longer fit in BDUs from when he was a private 15 years ago we'd be golden.

I'm in though. I HAVE to get rid of some clothes in my closet. I need to get new clothes in there but still haven't been able to get rid of the fat girl clothes. I'm determined to let them go though and I think I can easily pick 50 items that need to go. Of course I'll replace it with at least 35 items but hey that's still space to fill:rotfl:

If you don't want to sell it, throw the real junk away and give the rest to Goodwill.
