Let's discuss the new Athens by Crocs....

Update: I found Airwalks version of the Athens online and ordered them in the white/lt. blue. I'm curious to see how they compare. I probably won't wear them to tour the parks, I'll wear my Beaches for that, but around the pool and water parks I will.

I just got home from Dick's Sporting Goods up the street, which is where I got my new Athens. They didn't have my size in the color I wanted (chocolate/lt. blue) so I got black. The hardest thing was figuring out the size. The thong between the toes is kinda bothering me, but then again my other flip flops were pretty well broken in. The other thing that is causing me a bit of panic is the occasional foot *fart* that I get when walking. Anyone else have this problem?
Never had this problem but now I don't want to wear them! That would be embaressing. Dick's doesn't have much color selection, at least not where I live.

I like the look of the Niles, but I've read the previous posters have problems with blisters. So now what? I just don't like the looks of the other closed toes. Which is the most slim looking?

I have problems with 'rubbing on the side' which causes a blister on the Athens, this is due in part because my ankles "turn in" or "pronate" (imagine your ankles almost touching the ground!!) because of the open toe style the strap is further down then on the beach/cayman stlye, so it hits just at the ankle, and you cant flip the strap up on top like you can the beach/cayman...

hth - fwiw, I do wear my crocs daily at school/work (teacher) but when I have to "dress" up then I wear the Athens, but never longer than a couple of hours, and I havent been bothered with a blister, but if I wear them to do serious walking, blister!!

I bought a pair of Athen 2 weeks ago and the first few hours I wear them they make my feet sweat. I love them, they are very comfortable but I hate that my feet sweat for a few hours. Eventually my feet stop sweating for whatever reaon!!!!!

I got a pair for DH and myself. He wore his at WDW and complained of his feet hurting him. So that night I put mine on and wore them and he was right, my feet hurt. They are better than regular flip flops, but don't compare to beach/caymen...of which I have 9 pairs. :thumbsup2 I'll only be wearing my "ugly" ones from now on. I'll save my athens for the beach.
My DH would never wear them. I told him they are comfy and he siad "I wouldn't be caught dead in them". I want to order the beach ones. What color looks good, need opinions. I don't like the black. The Sea blue is nice but don't know what it will go with. DD has the Fuschia. My athens are blue & white. Since you have 9 pairs you will know which ones look best. Thanks. Have and Awesome trip to poly, We are staying there in September. I would love to go by ourselves but hte kiddies are coming too.

So is Crocs the name brand? Or I'm confused. Or are they the style? Has anyone gotten the ones from like, Walmart or something and know how they compare?

Okay, count me clueless.........what is the difference between the Cayman and the Beach Crocs? They look the same to me. I have been thinking of getting a pair...........yes, I'll admit it, I am a :scared: Crocs virgin

Crocs is the brand and then they have several different styles -- beach, cayman, nile, athens, etc. Walmart, Target, Payless and other stores have off brands. They all look the same, but they're not made of the same material. Target and Walmart have a crappy version, but the Payless ones are nearly identical to the Crocs, IMO.

I really want to buy the athens but have not yet. My niles also give me blisters the few times I have worn them for long period of times. I was very disapointed.

I'm sorry, but it took me almost 10 minutes to reply to this because I was laughing so hard. :rotfl2: If I ever saw a post that was "tag worthy" this has to be it!!! I know exactly what you are referring to here!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I just bought my first pair of Crocs, athens flip flops. I have never worn Crocs before because they are so ugly. But I decided to try these and they are so comfortable and cushiony. I wear them all day. I might actually try the beach for our WDW trip. Do your feet sweat in them? If so I'll just get another pair of Athens.

I started with the Athens about a month ago because I thought the Beach were so ugly. Took a while to get used to -- the toe post was fatter than my regular flip flops. BUT, I bought a pair of black Beach Crocs about three weeks ago and have since bought pink and khaki. I don't care how ugly they are! I like the Athens, but I LOVE the Beach. I have also bought the Niles, but the heel straps don't touch my heels at all.

In all, I think the Beach are most comfortable for SERIOUS walking. But the Athens are good for all-day mall/grocery wear, too.

I know I must be alone in this, but there's no way I could do a ton of walking in my Crocs! I finally figured out what it was. It's got a nice arch support and it's really cushiony, but there's no spring like when you're wearing sneakers. I know it sounds weird, but if I do any amount of walking in them, I end up feeling sore all over because I'm having to work harder just to walk -- I think, anyway. With a good pair of walking/running shoes, there's that spring in the heel.

Has anyone else noticed this?

What do you suggest for a good running shoe? I have been trying to find one for a few months but am not sure what is considered "good"? I wouldn't be able to compare the crocs because I have never found a perfect running shoe for me, yet.

From what I understand, New Balance makes about the best shoe out there. I've not only read that online, but my sister's podiatrist recommends them as well.

I can't find a pair of NB that fits me properly, so I got turned on to Ryka shoes. Wow -- those shoes are fantastic. The heel has a nice spring and when I'm wearing them, my feet feel like they're surrounded by pillows. I also used to wear Reebok walking shoes, which were very comfortable.

IMy dh's podiatrist said that if you buy NB shoes to make sure you get one that's over a 700. They have the best support. He recommends them as well.

I just returned from Disney and my Athens gave me trouble in Epcot. I had worn them quite a bit before we left but after just a couple of hours in the park I had a blister. But I still love them and will be wearing the heck out of them this summer. Side note: I tried the Payless version of the Athens before I left and they went right back to the store, no comparison.
