I need some opinions about Intimate Weddings and the cake cutting reception. We are having our wedding at the Wedding Pavilion at 2:30 p.m. :cloud9: The only time I could get for dinner is 5:00 p.m. at O'hana. I'm really afraid we're going to be cutting it too close.

Would you still have your guests eat the cake before dinner, with dinner being at 5:00, or would you cut the cake and box it up for after dinner?? I'm not sure what would be the best thing to do...I'm afraid that if we don't have cake to eat at the reception, it's going to seem silly (we will really be just going to the Commander's Terrace, drinking champagne, then leaving for dinner). Any suggestions?? :confused3

I think it sounds as if you may be cutting it pretty close on time for dinner. I don't think I would want cake before I went to 'Ohana...(It's my favorite place to eat in the World). Of course, you should do what you feel is right for your situation. Enjoy your day! :goodvibes

I agree. As wonderful as the cake may be, I'd want to wait until after Ohana's to eat it. I would do the cake cutting just for photography, but have them box it up and take it to the Poly. JUst explain it to your guests beforehand.

Too Funny!! :rotfl:

I just e-mailed my EM an the same exact thing!

We are having our ceremony at 5:00 and have ressies at 8:00. What we are doing is just cutting a tiny piece and feeding it to eachother for picture purposes. But we are having our entire cake boxed up and sent to Mangino's (where our ressies are) and serving it after dinner, so no one will eat cake before dinner, except DF and I for picture purposes.

Check out my post and responses I got:

Cake Question - would this be tacky?

My EM said we have more than enough time. We will only be at SBP (our wedding site) for and hour and a half, but she said that was enough time. I am still nervous though.

we're in the same situation, ceremony at SBP at 5pm with the reception following at 7pm (CA Grill). Because we have so many children in our party we thought it might be best to just have some cake after the ceremony. We're still doing a separate dessert menu at the Grill later so we're hoping it won't be too weird before a formal dinner :)

We are having our intimate at 5pm with the reception at commander's terrace in GF. Our Ohana ressies aren't until 9:30!!! a pretty long wait. So we are just going to have everyone eat cake at the reception and then eat dinner later.

Our wedding was at 4pm and we had dinner ressies at 6pm. We did our cake cutting for picture purposes only, but before we cut the cake my mom and neice made toasts. After toasts and cake cutting we had our first dance and snuck away for a little while for more pictures with our photographer. Then we enjoyed our cake after dinner. It all worked out great! :thumbsup2

I say eat the cake at the reception lol! Your guests will be stuffed after Ohana's and dessert is included there so I think everyone should have the cake before hand and savor it!!

Our ceremony was at 3pm with dinner being served from 6.30pm, and our guests had a slice of cake, but then hardly ate the dinner, so maybe it's best to either cut a very small piece or have the bride and groom just have the 'mouthful' for photos.
